I thought I would throw out an invite to a very well run local race in October. Tough course but great event. It's called Pumkinman, is a point to point race here in Vegas with the swim at Lake Mead. I thought of John because T2 and the finish line is at the local Brew Pub. Hope everyone is doing well! Chet |

Just found out today that IronGirl shorten their bike course from 30k to 22.5k. 4 miles difference. I'm happy, but bummed. Shorter course = what a sprint bike is supposed to be - at least I think so. Bummed because I automatically get a PR. Has this happened to anyone (where you have done a race, then you want to see how much you've improved and the course changes the following year)? I was really hoping to see how much I've improved over a year, and although I haven't been as religiously training as last year, but I definitely feel better/faster/improved - I was curious how I would do. Not sure how I feel about or is it something that "it is what it is"?
It IS a bummer, but then again, you can do it again the next year and have a new goal. My very first Olympic at Auburn's World's Toughest, took me sooooo long to finish, and then the very next year they changed the race to a long sprint. I really wish it were the same course, would love to go back and see if I could improve upon that 2nd to DFL out of the swim...and then the bike crash, and then the walking on the run....anyhoo, they do have an HIM on that course, so it might be on my radar for 2012...

Poor Kyla is stuck inside on the trainer for 4.5 hours. ugh. I walked Ripley last night after work and this morning in shorts and a tank! But the joke is on me, i wanted to do my long run tomorrow before work, but it is going to rain with 50mph gusts...I find it hard to believe as it is currently 78F here in the city, but i may just wait until Sunday... congrats on the new bike, Bryce, it sure looks purty congrats on the promotion and the move back, Tuffli have a great day everyone! Thanks for the sympathy. Yeah, plan said 4.5 hours. But in true Slacker form, I shortened it to 4 once I got stuck inside. During my T run I just kept telling myself all about the May flowers these April showers will bring, right??!! Really, all I want this year is the opportunity to really SWEAT on a long ride before CDA (and NOT on the trainer). Is that asking too much? |

It's Fajita Friday tonight!! And I can't wait!! Just made up a huge pot of black beans last night. Have had steak marinading for days for Dave. Have lentils for my "meat." Just got my fresh salsa, guac, and a lime. I cannot wait. Only way it could get better is if we go out. But then I'd have to change out of my fleece pants and my softest oversized sweatshirt. No thanks. Hardest part about long rides and bricks, IMO, is hydration. Anyone else notice that? I feel like I just drink and drink and drink water all evening and barely pee before I go to bed, ha!! JULIA! You mentioned "trail run" tomorrow. Are you racing too??????????? Good luck this weekend, racers!! Tear it up, but more than anything, HAVE FUN and SMILE!! |

Congrats Tuffli on the promotion and the move back to the states. And Kyla what can we say? You are awesome! I'd shoot myself after 2 hrs. Finished my first 5k of the year and the first in a series of 5. Wasn't sure what to expect so I just went out and ran hard and had fun. Result: new 5k PR Woo Hoo! Not sure of my official time b/c I always start my watch before the start line. Anyway watch data says 23:50 / 3.16m / 7:33 pace. So I shaved about 20 sec off my time. Can't wait to see what I can do in 5 weeks. I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!! |

Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - ClosedGreat race, Sam! That's a huge PR! That's a crazy long trainer ride Kyla! Great job getting it done, and enjoy the fajitas! The trail run tomorrow is the 2nd in a series of 15k races on different trails around the Indy area. I'm looking forward to running a new (to me) trail and just enjoying the scene. Should be a pretty nice day, too, now that the hail storm has passed through on its way somewhere else! |

I wanted to barf at the end. Didn't eat or drink anything till I got home. Of course, that only took me about 20min. The race series is actually every Friday in April so 5 races. I wonder if I will get stronger or worse or stay close to the same times throuhout the month. |

Expert 1037![]() ![]() Portland, OR | Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - ClosedWow, I've missed a lot on here! First, I LOVE that bike. And I'm super jealous. Tuffli, congrats on the promotion and moving back to NYC! Kyla - Ryan and I ride almost exclusively on our trainers, just because if we get outside here, I feel like there's always at least 2 close calls on every ride. But FOUR hours!? That's awesome. I don't know if the TV could distract me for that long. Sam - NOICE run! That's a lot of 5ks. Welp, I'm going to get back into the groove on Monday, which will have given my knee a full week totally off. It feels a lot better from just doing nothing, but I'm itching to do something! Going nuts here! (Especially because Ryan is on the drainer right now). I think this plan might work because then I'll have next week to get back into biking and swimming, then the week after I should be able to start !RUNNING! again! Then just back to preparing for the HIM! |

Was really thrilled to be able to do a semi long run today despite cold temps and crazy winds. I absolutely love Z2 efforts. They're such a good compliment to other stuff I've been doing. Starting to see quite a few bikers hit the IM course too. I think they're a bit nuts with the temps/wind, but we're so sick of being cooped up. So is it Birdy and Julia racing?? or is someone else out there too? GOOD LUCK TO ALL! Sam---great job on the 5K PR. Of course, you will continue to get faster as the 5 progress. Maybe not quite the PR you set today, but it's still moving in the right direction. Plus it's a great speedwork no mater what! Bryce--I do like the new ride. What stuff are you adding to it? Erica--glad to see the knee is better. I won't even give you the "let pain be your guide next week" speech because I'm assuming you've already embraced that concept I Took the man to the airport a little while ago so I am a solo flyer for the next 8 days. Hmmm.

And I'm having fun tracking one of my fave bloggers, Beth Walsh (californiatraining.blogspot.com) who is such an amazing athlete. This girl started running just year years ago and did a sub-3:00 marathon in Vegas this year. Crazy. Hoping she can repeat her AG win there today. Bonehead here just did a trainer workout but mentally (and physically) was just spent after 1:20, even though I planned to ride 1:30 to 2:00. Logging my workout I had the epiphany that I skipped breakfast in favor of coffee and an early soccer game for my daughter. I split a donut with hubs post game then came home to ride. Ummm... loser??? That ain't the stuff bike rides are made of, ha ha!! Lesson learned. Fortunately that was my daughter's only 8am soccer game for now, so next time I can get the workout done before the game (and the team never has snacks like donuts but we thought it would be fun for the girls since they had to get up early). Looking forward to some Shaka Smart action this afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
