Checked out the transition area tonight and spoke to one the guys and it definately has a different flow than previous years.
The swim ends more South and although a shorther beach run it requires a winding good length run on the paved path to the enterance to T1. The bike exit appears that it will not exit at the base of the hill and there are fenced in sections to herd you like cattle.

Seemed very well organized so far.

so does this mean the swim will be 1.2 miles? and where do we mount on the bikes? I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I head down to register, but I am deciding if I should clip my shoes in before the race, or put them on in transition....

Yeah ,pretty sure it will be a full 1.2 . We'll see about the bike mount shortly, the guy I spoke to was working with the timing mat guy and although the lead guy wanted to do it one way the mat guy had a couple other opinions.

reading a rr from an IM 70.3  event last week sounds like wetsuit strippers and  T1 stuff in bag , not laying out your stuff , curious what to expect.

Same.  Quick tire fix: I cut out a piece (rip more like it) of old tube, lay it inside tire where compromised and then new tube and pump up.  Not ideal, but gives a little extra protection to new tube.  Have also seen people use folded up $ and even a business card in same way.  You just want to make an extra barrier between tire and new tube at gash.  But if gash is too big, nothing will work.

Youve been riding the course, how are roads debris wise?

thanks for the practical advice

Not bad, I picked up some glass and flatted and tire gashed good enough to be replaced, but it was a good month or so ago. Based on my speed and starting wave, I should have plenty of riders out in front of me to ferret out any debris.

I also picked up some glass on my last ride...hope they get it cleaned up a bit more....unless all the speedy people in front of me clear the way!

Steveo is hot today but been drinking LOTS of water and keeping topped off on electrolytes.  Can't wait to enter the combat zone!  I'm gonna make this hurt, hurt real bad, but will love every minute of it!

Buoys are in today.

It will be a legit full 1.2 mi
It will be deep enough to not worry about hitting the bottom with your stroke and there will be no walking on the swim portion.

LET'S GET IT ON!

After the beach run , you take the path the snakes around to about the middle of the parking lot (last years transition) to reach T1.

just got back from checking in.

I've been rebibbed, went from #1865 to #1871.

Expo seemed weak unless you need a IM dog leash , Heavy on M dot branding items, not so full of last minute esstentials.

local bike shop is here and they have some tri items as well.

actually, let me be more precise.

the swim will be called and depending on radar, bike and run will continue.  weather has to be VERY bad for them to call bike and run.

Steve- - 2010-07-17 7:25 AM yes, of course.
