BunnyB - 2008-05-08 11:42 AM Have fun with your new toy, Jeff! Being a total gadget geek, I'm in heaven right now.

Hi everyone!

I ordered the Garmin 305 for my Mother's Day present (and breakfast in bed, of course).  I got it for $140 and cannot wait for it to arrive--it is en route!  Just went to REI and bought a new helmet and bike gloves and body glide and sunscreen and gel and shot blocks.....dang, this sport is expensive.  But I love it!

Erin-I usually eat a gel if I am heading out on a long run, ride or swim (over an hour).  Sometimes if I haven't eaten well (like only peanut butter sandwich crusts and teddy grahams) I eat one for a shorter workout. I think emotionally it helps me to know I have the nutrition to get through the workout.  Whether it really helps is the question. I also gel on the super long rides, at least every hour or so. With lots of water, or water mixed with NUUN.  Recently I bought (damn sport!) a double water bottle holder that mounts to my seatpost, so I have been hydrating better on rides, and that really helps. Last night in the pool I drank nuun in between sets, since I'd already done a spin class and was dehydrated.

Train hard, manatees!    All this nutrition talk has me hungry for my smoothie. Mmmm. Once or twice a day, that is my meal.

Wow, that's a great price, Leslie! Where did you order it? I have a friend who is considering the 305, but doesn't have a local REI. She tried to order it from the REI website, but they're on backorder now. Since I've seen a lot of folks mentioning they've ordered one, I wonder how much BT has helped contribute to that backorder issue?

I picked up a few other goodies when I was at REI yesterday, too. I got a bike pump, some Body Glide, a few Luna bars, and some socks. Somewhat unfortunately, everything was already on sale, so I didn't get to use my 20% off coupon.

Reno8 - 2008-05-08 11:37 AM When I am thinking about going to bed I back up from my "get-up-time" for the next day in 1.5 hr segments and add about 10-15 minutes to get to sleep and that tells me when I need to hit the sack. It is just something to think about when making a blanket statement about a certain number of hours of sleep. Might not work for you but it worked for us.
x2 what Mila said -- that's interesting. I always have a really hard time getting up in the morning, so I think I will try that out tomorrow. Thanks!

x3 I'll have to try that.

Hang in there Mila.  My goal is also to work on my sleep; we can do it together!

Hmmmmm, seems I must learn more about the Garmin 305 - my polar HRM just pooped out - sorta my fault, but lets not talk about it

anyway!

Congrats to the folks with the new garmins!

Very interesting info on sleep!  I will have to give that some thought and see if I can do the math

thanks Steve!

I everyone!  I have been trying for days to figure out what my May goals were going to be and I think I have it.  My travel schedule is getting full for the month.  As it stands right now I will be on the road at least three days each week until the end of May.  My goal is to exercise as close to my planned training schedule as possible while I am on the road.  If I can't do the planned training then I must improvise with something each day.  My scheduled rest day is Friday.  I will use it to shift the schedule if I just can't make it work out but still try to keep it to only one rest day per week.

So how does that sound?  I will log my workouts as always in my logs but try to stop by here each evening with a thumbs up or down.

I am loving being a part of this group.  I am an inspiring fool and now I have even more folks to hit!!

I think that sounds like a wonderful goal!  And - if I might say it, you are off to a great start!

I was totally impressed by your workout in the hotel room because there was no fitness center!

I didn't get to spend my 20% coupon (yet) either.  Am trying to decide what else I need!!  And what isn't on sale...they put everything on sale, it seems.  Oh well.  Love the REI.

I ran a little bit this morning and have a huge swim later on......

This is just going to be one of those weeks.  I had to push my swim aside for a follow-up mamo.  What a great trade-off.  I am trying not to freak out over the whole thing, but of course I am.  I hope to know something by the end of the day.

The good news is we are heading to our house up in the north woods (3 1/2 hours north of Madison) for the weekend.  It does mean less training (our lake just thawed this week so no swimming), but it is a really special place for my and my man.  It is our slice of heaven.

Train hard, train well.

Minnow, I had two years in a row with follow up mammo's and biopsy but all was well in the end.  Try to relax and not worry too much though I know that's not possible.

The weekend trip sounds fantastic, enjoy!!

I have been working steady, minus some minor BT inspiring, since about 8:30 so I am heading for my trainer and a quick run.  Then it's time to play with the hubby for the afternoon and get ready for fishing and crabbing this weekend in Galveston!!!

Thanks, Leslie! Even if she doesn't get the extra discount, at least it's the same price as REI and they still have it in stock apparently.

Hey Suzy ... Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope everything goes well.  My wife has gone through this, with the tests etc. and it can wreck you mentally.  Hope you have some good news.

My wifes family has a place in the N.Ga. mountains on a beautiful lake..and your description of a "slice of heaven" is perfect.  Hope you guys have a great time and enjoy your time together.

Steve

Do you guys ever have those days where it occurs to you that you've completely lost your mind with this whole training thing? Today I've been limping around the office because my entire right quad is stiff and sore from who knows what, probably something I did on a run a couple days ago. So did I ice it and plan a rest day? Ha. I spent a good chunk of my day online, planning the route for tonight's 8-mile run and trying to find a marathon I can do in October/November/December.

I remember a couple years ago when a friend told me he was going to run his first marathon. I told him he was insane. Clearly it's catching.

(Don't worry, I'm not being too dumb about the quad. I'm sure I just wrenched it a little, and if it's hurting tomorrow I'll ice and rest and all that good stuff.)

So, California Manatees: Got any ideas for a good first-time marathon toward the end of the year?

Erin, I can relate completely!

but - do take care and listen to your body -

last year I struggled through some injuries and although it was very difficult to rest, it was better in the long run

Hey, you've already lost your mind, don't lose one of your legs, too

If you get this in time, which you won't, I hope you went out easy and stopped if it started to hurt more.

LOTS of great 1st marys at the end of the year--how far are you looking to travel? Wanna do one together? I'll swing it if I can. May not happen, but ... this is why I love PLANNING stages
