How is everyone doing? Sounds like we had the same run - I did the fall this morning. bloody, dirty and yucky - but on a trail, so no cab to call! July was a lighter month for me after a bigger push in June and two races in July. I didn't have any taper, but I had a light week after my HIM and a 4-day lighter block after an Oly so it hit my numbers. I'm feeling good but fell during a long run yesterday and banged myself up really good. I know, falling on a run - so sad. But I got up and ran 5 more miles all bloody and dirty HTFU in full effect! I've got some exciting training this month, starting with a long weekend in Vermont next week so I can ride some real hills again. |

I took the subway I was on a "trail" as well, a bridle path for horses. Guess I should have stayed on the pavement! Hope you heal up quickly too. |

I figure it's time to book a flight and am thinking arrive Wednesday and leave Tuesday, but am curious what others are doing. Juggling kid/babysitter schedules......we're flying in Thursday, landing early afternoon. Flying out mid-afternoon Monday. Should be able to see the roll-down. We're staying at the Edgewater. Anyone else ever stay there?
Stayed at edgewater last year. Overall fine except...Bring ear plugs for Saturday night. You are right on the water on Landgon streeet. All the fraternity houses on the water will be having parties and the noise carries!!!

Guess I should have stayed on the pavement! Hope you heal up quickly too. It's kinda like having a cold - you feel like a wimp when you complain. Nothing's broken or sprained, but it all HURTS! Plus, it was a really stupid fall. Somehow, it would feel better if it was dramatic.....not a tree root or a rock! ....less than 6 weeks out! Edited by velcromom 2009-08-03 1:03 PM |

You can also check in on the quality of Monona, it was all algae ridden recently but may have cleared up. You can also swim in Mendota and Wingra in Madison, and Ripley a short drive away. I swam in all but Mendota, they are not the freshest of waters I've ever been in but good practice for the race! |

Leaving no later than 7, probably 6:30. Gonna average about 16 for the entire ride. That's a long ride. Just looking to get it done. |

I'm leaving the BP gas station/convenient store that's across from Gray's Tied House at that time. I like that as a start due to the convenience (no pun intended) of a nice toilet and refill items if needed, plus the after-workout COOKIES!! |

How is it you got a hotel so close to race site this late in the game? The Hotel Ruby Marie Bed and Breakfast still has a couple of rooms left. I stayed there in 2007 and it was great! There is a 4 night minimum but the rooms were very reasonable and included breakfasts in the morning AND 2 drinks each night at the bar. |

Geez, you think with today's modern technology that the corporate rate would provide a DVD player instead of a VCR! |

Member 18 Houston | Subject: Wheel question I am seeking all opinions whether you're an expert or just repeating what you have heard from others. I’ll give you my question and some background. I’m trying to decide whether to bring my Zipp wheels (808 rear, 404 front) which I used at IM CDA, or a set of good road race wheels. The Zipps worked fine for me at CDA this year. I averaged 24 mph on the first loop at CDA but much slower on the second loop because of some back issues. I looked at the elevation chart and Wisconsin seems much harder because the hills are relentless. I live and train in Houston so there are very few chances to train hills. Plus I’m a bigger guy and getting up those hills after mile 80 is tough. I need to decide soon because I’m sending my bike through Tribike Transport. Thanks in advance for your advice. |

There are many that use ZIPPs, some use HEDs, and others a full rear disc, and many others with their regular wheelset. Even though the course is hilly, you may get an advantage over those that won't have the aero wheelset. Additionally, if I'm not mistaken, the ZIPPs may be several grams lighter than a regular wheelset, thus saving you weight and energy in the long haul. If we get carpy, windy weather, the cross-winds still won't throw you all over like if you had a full rear disc. Just my viewpoint. |

Same response here... I have ridden the course a couple times now (haven't raced). My last time, blew out my front tire (Zipp 808) right by SN starting lap 2, swapped out to a regular wheel from our support vehicle... there was signficant wind out of the west and I noticed a major difference to the negative. Being bigger (200+), I had no issues with cross winds using the 808's. Disclaimer... 1st time at IMoo and only a couple days on the course. |

I'm planning to ride Zipps on the course. I just used them in Vermont on some challenging hills and they definitely helps spare the legs a bit. I haven't raced MOO yet but have trained on it, but with regular wheels. You just reminded me I better decide about Tribike Transport... |

over a barrier | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm running my Hed3 and Disc cover - aero trumps weight. Having been on the course all season, I don't see why anyone would choose training wheels vs Aero wheels (if they have both sets). Same decision on Road vs tri bike. If you have both = tri bike. |
