So who is going to be our water tester tomorrow when the lake re-opens?  We want a full report.

I've been running the IMAZ course quite a bit lately so I've been running along the lake.  It's full and some of the boats are back in the small marina.  There is quite a bit of debris floating around (especially on the sides) but I'm sure all this will be cleaned up.  They won't let people swim in it unless there is a race going on.  I'm doing the 4000m OWS in it 11/6 and I'll be sure to give everyone an update on here.

You know they won't "clean up" any floating debris. It's going to be like the trash compactor scene from Star Wars.  "What a wonderful smell you've discovered..."

LOL.... I have a very BAD feeling about this.

I wish Bryan was on here.

yes and no

The state-run photo radar vans and cameras on the I-17 and I-10 are gone, and the city-run vans and cameras on the 101 are gone. However, some cities still have vans and cameras on surface streets and at red lights. Honestly, I never think about it anymore. They are rare now.

Today is a great day.

Tempe Town Lake is back!

"The City of Tempe delivered on its promise" to have the lake back to normal in time for the prestigious national event, said Ironman 2011 race director Hessam Salim.

There have been several questions about being able to swim in Tempe Town Lake. The schedule of events for the 2010 race are now on the IMAZ website just follow the link below and you will see a session to swim on Saturday morning.

I thought I'd ask a question regarding spectator parking.  I'll be driving down from Prescott pretty early on race day morning, planning to get there between 4 and 5 AM.  The 2009 IMAZ guide from the race website suggests athlete parking at the US Airways building south of Rio Salado Parkway between Ash and Mill Avenenues.

They also list spectator parking at lots north of University Ave along Ash Ave, by taking the Red Mountain Freeway (202) to the Priest Drive exit, then going south on Priest to University Ave, and turning left on Ash Ave.

Does all this pretty much make sense for this year as well?  I'd like to be able to plug in a specific street address into my GPS so if someone can verify this or suggest a particular parking lot for spectator parking, I'd be eternally grateful!

Yes, these are good directions.    It's a good idea to take the PRIEST exit and NOT the Scottsdale/Rural exit because the road closures can be tricky (I know my parents had problems with this last year).  Athlete parking is right across the street from the transition area (tempe beach park) and spectator parking is about a 10 minute walk.  If you show up at 4 or 5am  you should be able to get pretty close parking; there are a number of parking lots within close proximity. I'd recommend the Ash parking lot as well, because it's close and convenient if you need to leave.

Thanks Elliot!  I mapped it out to see the distance and it comes out to around 113 miles.  I'll just plug in an approximate address on Ash Ave to my GPS and then even a knucklehead like me can probably find his way there!

If everyone would like to post their bib number I would be willing to put it on a sorted list and post it here with updates as I receive them.  I'd done this in the past for Ironman Lake Placid.  If you wish to have your bib number published here along with your other identification, please add a post with the following information:

BT NAME
BIB NUMBER
FIRST & LAST NAME
GENDER
AGE

Thanks!!
