Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() sand101 - 2011-05-05 9:22 PM To answer Robert: No wetsuits allowed. Way too warm for that, anyway. This year might be a bit chillier water, but I'd welcome that. To add: Water in Pensacola Bay is already 77F. No way you want to be in a rubber suit in that: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/northwest/Ecosys/waterquality/outlook.ht... one else joining us that I know of. I had someone that wanted to race, but family issues got in his way. The link is what I was looking for! Bring on the 77* water. Our pool is closer to 83*-85* right now. Plus, I don't own a wetsuit. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Titleloops: your weight loss has found me. I've picked up 4# this week and I'm not happy!! On a gloating note, I managed to hit a 1:11 in this morning's 100TT. Sadly, I didn't know what was coming up next, or I definitely would've sandbagged. He threw me to the fish and had us attempt 6x100s @1:30. I managed the first 4 okay (5-8sec rest), but I blew up on the 5th. I still squeked out a 1:26, but had to move the RI to 10-15" instead. I am proud that I got all 6 under 1:30 though. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() titeloops - 2011-05-06 10:00 AM gloating post here: I'm down 7 lbs in 3 weeks! Run times are improving proportionately to weight loss. At 170lbs I was in the 9:00 to 9:15 min/mile range on most runs. At 163lbs, my runs are in the 8:30 to 8:45 range. Stoked! That's some good weight loss and run improvement. Keep at it. I'm seeing some of the same here. I'm down from 190 to 178, and I can tell a difference in the running. It seems a bit easier to keep a lower HR and stay on pace. I'm hoping that will translate to races coming up. I did a 1 mile test run after my warmup this past Wednesday, and ran an 8:38, which is pretty fast for me on a flat course. For anyone interested, I've been reading thru Racing Weight by Matt Fitzgerald, and it's been a pretty good read. Some good information in there about goal weight and diet structure. I've calculated my goal weight for this season, which is 171. I'm hoping to stay around 175 and then lose the last 4 before Augusta. I'm a bit apprehensive to lose much more right now, when the bulk of the HIM training is approaching. Truth be told, I'd like to be racing at 165. |

Just my $0.02 here, but I say lose the weight before you start your HIM training. The only way I've been able to keep my calorie deficit at 500 of more daily is by cutting my workouts back considerably. I'm really just running right now, and keeping those to an hour or so max. Bike rides around an hour and a half. Havent swam in a week, cause swimming makes me really hungry. You think you'll lose weight with increased volume, but it usually doesnt work that way. You simply cant run calorie deficits when you are training a ton. |

I've cut back a little, but just increased activity from training for the Olympic. My goal is to be 175 by May 31 (which will be about 8-9 weeks since starting the diet), and keep that weight thru summer and HIM training. I'm thinking with the increased training load, I'll drop another 2-4 pounds by the HIM in September. I need to make sure I'm taking in the right kind of calories when my training load increases. |

You simply cant run calorie deficits when you are training a ton. When your in season you should cut no more than 200 calories a day(300 if your a bigger guy, 200 lbs). At a 200 calorie deficit you should be able to perform all your workouts. Well, if you eat the right stuff at the right times.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My week was almost non existant. The cold I was fighting off for 2 weeks came back with avengance on Tuesday so i decided to rest for the rest of the week to try and finally beat it before Sunday's race. Speaking of which, that was a tough course! Unfortunately the was no crushing being done by me and I was glad to reach the finish by the end! Race report is up for those that was to read about it. |

On the bright side I did get to throw a parent out of the game! ;-) Run was good, as I am trying to just hold at 20 mile/week for now until the swimming is done. Swimming was also good - I wanted 12k for the week and almost got there. Got myself down to a pretty easy effort 6:51 500yd on Saturday. Those are the kind of efforts I want going into this swim (BTW Robert I am officially signed up now). This week I want at least 10k swimming, 20 miles running, and hopefully 75 biking. I'm gonna do the Vulcan practice race this Saturday in Oak Mountain. Robert, Jason - you guys going? BTW, Sicone that was an good race. I'm shocked that better than a 9 minute mile running is only good for 43/44. In my area that would be MOP or so. |
