Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by Throwdownmyace I'm up to 50 miles, but several 45+and hills. Still not sure I will be ready this year, but just following the plan, following the plan, following the plan. I'll take another look at the end of August. So much fitter than 2 months ago, so who knows what the next two months will bring. Did I mention I'm just following the plan? Just keep swimming, just keep swimming - nemo By the way, there are no hills in Florida, and the altitude is approximately sea level. Just trust the plan. |

Master 2158 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey All, Did a marathon 2 weeks ago, and just getting back on board with my IM training. Amazing how a few weeks of rest can make you feel like you are out of shape.... Happy to be back on the bike and in the pool. Looking forward to the process. What day is everyone planning on arriving? I know check in is on Thursday, but I haven't checked or decided if I am going to fly in Wed or Thursday. |

If you can fly in early enough Wednesday to knock check in out on Wednesday then you will be quite happy. Thursday check in can get VERY crowded since it's the last day. |

Regular 83 Houston, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Question for the IMFL race veterans. I'm planning on flying in from Houston on Tuesday or Wednesday with my family coming in on Thursday. My condo is walking distance from transition. Should I plan on renting a car or are there enough cabs that we could get around for dinner and the like without a problem? I'm using TBT for my bike so that is covered. BTW... 100 days, 20 hours, 50 minutes til the gun goes off. |

Member 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread you can probably manage without a car if you're that close to transition, which is also close to a few restaurants and a super wal-mart. I stayed a bit further away last year and had a car, which was helpful for me, but if you're that close, you should be ok. Having said that, I don't know about the availability of cabs. good luck and enjoy. IMFL is a great race! |

BTW... 100 days, 20 hours, 50 minutes til the gun goes off. I was down there in June. I stayed at the Sunbird, which is close to transition. We did not rent a car. We walked to Wal-Mart to stock up on food and the walk wasn't too bad. We only used a cab to get to the airport so I do not know how available they are on a daily basis, but I imagine they are not too hard to find. |

Extreme Veteran 504 SW Florida Gulf Coast | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hmmm... I'm not sure which airline to recommend, but have you thought about flying to Tallahassee? When we volunteered last year we drove up from So. FL, but a friend of ours flew into Tally and then just rented a car. It's about a 2-hr drive. Not sure if a car rental is an option for you or not. Well, today is August 2nd so that means.... we've got 3 months. Exactly 3 months (and 1 hour). Woo! We are driving up on Tuesday and it's about an 8 hour drive for us. Not too bad at all. We are staying at Laketown Wharf which is right near the start line and on the bike course. From what I recall from volunteering last year, just about everything one could possibly need is within walking distance from most of the hotels that are near the start line/transition area... including the Mellow Mushroom. So how's training going? Bike rides are getting longer and the So. FL heat makes them extra tough as we often finish in a heat index that is close to 100F, if not 100! Coach threw in the first 4000 yard swim this past week which went extremely well. Right now I'm just trusting in the process as best as I can as this is my first ironman distance race. Train hard, train safe! |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread So how was your Month? Training going well? I had a peak experience on my long run a week ago. Now I'm carefully trying to reconstruct everything about that run to see if I can make it happen again. An awesome 14 mile run that felt almost as good at the finish as at the start. Life gets in the way often, but training is coming along. Long bike rides are way fun, and then there was that run. What was your month like? Are you excited about going to Florida yet? Here's my July: Swim: 3h 56m - 11911.46 Yd Bike: 35h 36m - 518.9 Mi Run: 18h 02m 32s - 93.15 M |

15 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hoping we're past the brunt of the heat, humidity and copious amounts of rain. It's been very frustrating for training here in Va... many wet workouts, many skipped or otherwise screwed up. Frankly got me a bit burned out, but now I'm back with renewed vigor! And healthy, so I'll take it. If my run starts to come along this month I'll feel much better. Originally posted by Jorgito22 for those flying into Panama City from east coast, any suggestion on which airline to use thats reasonable, I usually travel southwest but there not offering any flights than..... I'm flying Delta (or Delta operated charter). They had shortest and cheapest flight from Va, layover in ATL and then to PCB. Booked mine thru American Express which had best deal I could find. And lucky I'm flying free on company AMEX points. Will have to pay $150 carry-on fee for the bike which is pretty ridiculous but whatever. Funny thing was I only needed a one-way but the round trip tickets were actually over $100 cheaper than one-way! I hate to fly but depending on how I feel I may fly home and beat the family back (traveling by car). I'm coming down Tues for a semi-working vacation and early check-in. Probably bike the run course, do some swims, and generally take it easy. Family arrives Friday. |

I don't think your post was complete so I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but Southwest flys into PCB and probably has more flights than anyone into PCB. It is a very small airport with only a couple of airlines flying in. We booked a flight yesterday on Southwest from Nashville to PCB for one of my family members to come support me. |

I would keep checking with Laketown and/or Shores. I just booked a room at Laketown a couple of days ago. People will cancel. If you can't find anything, I have a number for the place I stayed last year as a volunteer, although it didn't have a kitchen. She may have other units, though. It's about a mile from the village, but with the Wal-Mart parking lot it was never an issue for me. |

I stayed at a Marriott condo property about 10 minutes away from the Wal-Mart. It's a really good choice, that is if you're planning to have a car. My unit had 2 big bedrooms, 2 full bath and a full kitchen. Price was very reasonable. They also have a big hot tub for post-race. There is also 2 big food stores about a 1/2 mile from the Marriott. Since it's a few miles from the heart of PCB, it's nice and quiet, though there were a bunch of racers staying there. I booked my unit semi-late, and they had availability. If you don't have a car, then the Marriott is not really an option. Good luck. |
