Suzy, it humbles me and cracks me up at how many hours you have in your logs, even with all of your vacations. Truly amazing. Here are my numbers -- I was pretty much on plan this month, although I was sick for a few days and missed/shortened a couple of workouts. Next week is a recovery week for me, and I'm looking forward to it!! Oh, and I love that my Feb. numbers are above January, in spite of the shorter month. Yeah!!

February's totals:
Bike:23h 40m 31s  - 327.23 Mi
Run:12h 20m 11s  - 73 Mi
Swim:7h 55m  - 25700 Yd
Strength:55m
Yoga:1h 00m

I've still got a little run a a bike trainer ride. I'll post later.

I like the terry butterfly too! I have tried quite a few saddles so far it's best, I hadn't seen a white one, cool!

Nice that Omph is making shorts for you!

Happychick - 2010-02-28 2:36 AM Hey all!  I am soooo far behind in here that I don't think I have any hope of catching up from where I left off.  However, I haven't forgot about you all and want to thank those of you who have visited me lately.  I have really been in a funk due to a million and one things going on but I'd like to think that I am moving on! I have one week of school left so I'm totally stoked as that just means I will have more time to play.  I whole heartedly plan on staying caught up but I may fall a bit behind until my class is over (at which time I am taking a break until after our move to WA in May!!)

BTW, sweet looking bike, Suzy!

Are you guys ok with the Tsunami and such down there?  I heard they called off the watch but I assume the weather could still be crazy there.

We are good and thankfully all is well, thank you!  There was no damage or anything major that happened (other than seeing the ocean rise and recede 6 ft ~ via the news).  Suprisingly, it didn't affect the weather at all!

Well group I finally got a race in.

A nice, small local half marathon put on by a running group.  Finished in 1:59:26 - not bad considering I haven't done more than 8.5 miles in 3 months and barely any speed work.  Race report to follow.  I think I finished 4th in my AG but I don't know how many were in it.

Awesome, Sam!! That is a great time especially given your lack of training for that particular distance. Wow! I'm impressed!!! WOOT!

Good job, Fatty. Can't wait to see your 300 next month!

Sam - Congrats on your run. 4th in AG is something I would love to accomplish some day!!

Suzy - Your bike looks cool as heck.

I just found-out the details on my first tri next weekend. It is an all indoor tri. My transition area will be next to my bike (an upright schwinn spinner bike or something - increased resistance DOES make the miles go by faster, unlike many stationary bikes), and run on a treadmill at 0% incline. Time starts once you hit the water, and ends when you get off the treadmill and run across the finish line a few feet away. So this means no changing clothes - just going to wear my new tri top/bottoms. Also going to wear my running shoes on the bike.

Does anyone have any random advice on indoor tris which don't allow you to change clothes? Anything I should know about the swim (people in front of me? - how should I pass them if this happens?, etc..) bike - should I place a towel on the seat because my bum will still be wet? run - eh...really don't have any questions for the run...

Sam nice work on the run, great time!

I went for a run outside today as it was great weather.  The workout called for a 2 hour run, but I have not had the distance recently, so I decided to just run.  I ended up going just about 90 minutes and covered 10 miles.  Just under a 9 minute mile.  I was quite happy with that considering some of my run was on patchy ice, only came close to falling twice.  I had a few times my foot would break through the ice and plop down into ankle deep water.  I have got to praise SmartWool socks for this, although my foot was soaking, it was cold for about a minute and then it warmed up and I did not notice it anymore.  I spent almost the full run on my toes/balls of my feet.  My calves are screaming right now, but my knee is feeling the best it has after a run in a long time.

I am gonna go hit the slopes for night snowboarding tonight for a couple of hours.  I have a "recovery" week in my plan this week so my time is down from normal.  I wont even bother posting Feb totals, my vacation cut into my hours significantly!

What a game. Way too nerve racking . That was a great way for the Canadian Olympics to end.  Congrats to the US team for not quitting at all and making the game so good. That was one of those games where you don't like to see anyone lose.

SSMinnow - 2010-02-27 12:11 PM Just heard from my FIL who is still in Kauai...they are under a mandatory evacuation due to the tsunami warning and heading inland which is not so easy for them given my MIL's Parkinsons and failing health.  It is times like this I wish we were still there to help them.

I hope everything will be OK for them.  Could be some pretty big waves for them with that size an earthquake. Thank fully Hawaii is  a ways off. Do any of the Hawaiian chain of island protect the other s and perhaps could break up the tsunami.

I haven't done an indoor tri of any kind as of yet but I would suggest the following technique when passing a swimmer in front of you. Swim up until you can touch their toes. (drafting.) Once that close take two very strong strokes and firmly grasp their ankle. On your next down stroke very quickly and strongly yank them back and under you and then while they are struggling to breathe swim over top of them. Once you have successfully completed this technical pass don't look back just focus on your next target

Oooooh, that's evil swimmin'!! Love it!! When my Y had an indoor tri a few years back, they staggered things based on the number of bikes they had, and limited it to two swimmers per lane. We swam 400 yards, biked 10 miles, and ran 2-ish miles outside. There were a few waves of people due to bike  numbers. I would ask before the swim what the protocol is. When I used to swim, our "rules" were to touch someone's feet once then leave them alone, and then at the wall they would let you pass -- prevented mid-lane collisions due to passing mid-lap.  But I'm sure others will have that question, and it's a good one, so please ask!!

Also, when we did our tri, I just did it in my swimsuit and pulled on some tri shorts out of the pool. (My suit is enough of a running bra for me, sadly...) But there were no issues with being wet. We have another tri scheduled indoors, and if I do it this go-around, I'll just do it in tri shorts and a tri tank, I think. If it's cold I can pull on a shirt for the (outside) run.

Tear it up, girl!!

Man, if you use this approach you better swim like hell.  If they catch you no telling what would happen

Honestly, most folks will let you pass if you "just" tap on their toes.

First of all, to all you Canucks, congrats on winning a great game.  Well done.

Sam:  Bravo on the Half-Mary.  Very nice time, especially in light of the snowfall we have experienced over the past month.

Suzy:  Nice bike porn.  Looking good, although on that little number I am not sure I would recognize you on the course -- I would just see a red blur going past me...  And, let me express my appreciation for what you do to keep the rest of us in line.  In response to your post, this crazy Feb (with apocalyptic levels of snow as well as family medical issues) got the better of me.  I did not keep up with my training as much as I would have liked.  But it is coming along, and I have time to make it up:

February's totals:
Bike:5h 10m  - 78 Mi
Run:5h 33m  - 39.41 Mi
Swim:44m  - 2350 Yd
Strength:6h 45m
Snow Shoveling:6h 30m

You know that it has been a rough month weather-wise when my monthly snow shoveling total exceeds my monthly bike or run totals...

You klazy, Rob!

Kyla and fun - thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll just wear my tri top and bottoms as my swimsuit is not enough support for the run. I'd bounce right out of that puppy.

What is this game you speak of?

Oh THAT ONE. Wow amazing. What 2 penalties? My girls were a little worried for me when the US scored with 38 seconds left.
I screamed when we scored the overtime goal. My 4 year old said "Dad, you don't need to be so loud!"

Flipped through closing ceremonies. If anyone saw the opening ones, the did a pretty funny thing at the start with the hydraulic arm to start the closing. And Katrina LemayDoan as well....mmmm. One of the tris i did this year, she was staying at the condos we stayed at. Her kids were playing with our girls in the pool. She was speedskater. And let me tell you, she has quads like tree trunks.
