Extreme Veteran 380 Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED! roadrhino - 2010-06-16 3:11 PM Wow...I just don't know how to follow a post like that, Nicole. So, the College World Series it is! Of course I knew the mentor group would all vote an astounding "yes"...so it just helps justify the decision. Looking forward to a few days of great baseball! Also, Houston-area folks...not sure if any of you have plans for July 10, but I'm calling out for help for my swim team. We're looking to win the last meet of the season and it will probably be a close one...which could also determine our fate in the season championship. So we are in need of bodies to swim in the adult ranks for us. All abilities are welcome (the longest individual race is 200 freestyle)...we just need points! To sweeten the pot a little bit, and to compensate you for your time (since we are a short ~90 minute drive from Houston), I just might consider having a few celebratory beverages and food available at my place afterwards. Mull it over...let me know if you are interested/available and we'll work out the details soon. I'm sure you don't mean slow as hell and couldn't swim straight to save my life. July is pretty open right now except for Katy century ride. |

Extreme Veteran 380 Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED! Nicole83 - 2010-06-16 3:38 PM For your reading entertainment- my funny story from last night/this morning... I learned a valuable lesson this morning at 4 a.m. Evidently, there are many fail safe's in luxuary apartment living when it comes to fire protection. For example, all of the fire detectors are hard wired together so that if one goes off, all of the alarms in the building go off to notifiy other tennants of the fire. So if, at least's say 4 a.m. you have one of your fire detectors beeping to notify you of a low back up battery and rather than take the time to find the spare 9 volt and change it, you instead decide to just rip the device out of the ceiling, this will cause every fire alarm in the entire building to go off. And if, let's say, you don't realize that you're causing such a ruckus so you're still standing stark naked in your living room balancing on your tip toes on a chair trying to shove the device back into your vaulted ceiling when the fire department shows up and bangs down your door... it can prove to be quite embarassing. I was, however, amazed at the speed that I was able to construct a makeshift toga out of the blanket that we keep on the couch seconds before building maintenance let the brigade of fire fighters into our unit. Oh, and where was chris thru all of this you ask? In the bedroom with the door closed calling me an . Happy hump day. Normally I would say - only YOU would do this. But...this could have been me when I was in apts easily. I am sure your neighbors love you less than we do. |

Payson, AZ | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED! So, I keep hearing that you cannot build fitness the two weeks before your race (which I call bullsh.t on, I think the length of time is equal to however long it takes you to recover from a workout). But, so, let's assume that's true. These means I can sit on my arse tonight instead of going to bike in the wind right? Cause blowing off workouts right now should be ok?!?!? And I can sleep in tomorrow instead of going to do my 4000 (ha) yard swim right? Right? Edited by bzgl40 2010-06-16 5:17 PM |

Master 1318 Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED! Fitness is the culmination of workout/stress over a long duration, generally this is considered to be 6 weeks. Fatigue is sum of workouts/stress over a shorter duration, general rule is 7 days but younger athletes are normally around 4-5 days and similarly older (50+) athletes fatigue lasts 7-9 days. Form is the difference of fitness and fatigue (Form = fitness - fatigue), goal for a large race is to have high form. To do this the athlete must train at a stress that is LOWER than their normal fitness which is taper... Notice I said lower, not zero stress. Stress is a function of time and intensity but that's a different discussion There are numerical ways to quantify everything I described above but I know how people's eyes gloss over when I post numbers! It's a common misconception that taper means easy or off for workouts which is not optimal. During the last week of a multiple week taper it's generally better not to have an off day at all. Workouts will be shorter than normal but should still contain some high intensity work to help remain fitness. This is something I've been researching for the past couple years it might have something to do with my side project that's nearing completion bzgl40 - 2010-06-16 5:11 PM So, I keep hearing that you cannot build fitness the two weeks before your race (which I call bullsh.t on, I think the length of time is equal to however long it takes you to recover from a workout). I have anxiety about bike shipping as well, and have actually used Tribiketransport for any long distance races that I've done (you know, in my previous life when I used to race). Eric and Justin you HAVE A NICE a.ss, I actually understand where Betsy is coming from. I'm super slow on the bike and feel weird having any spiffy extras when people with just your standard road bike go flying by me. That said, Betsy is way faster than I am, and I think that she will look superhot with a pretty wheel. Dan, I'm a huge JB fan as well. Key West is one of my favorite places on the planet. |

Any regrets? During college as I was gathering college debt yes. Now no, I don't think I would have made it in music performance. It's so competitive and there is so much talent.
