Dan,  I don't think the water was that cold, but John and Linda could add more insight.  I think the women who were that cold were moving slow (not producing much body heat) and had very little body fat.  Not a combination that I have to worry about when it's my turn.  lol

Suzy, I didn't sign up.  Still sticking with my plan for a HIM next summer--probably Muncie.  Want to check out IMOO before I make any decision.

David (aussie), Nice pb.  Contrats.  You are awesome!

David (Georgia boy), Can't wait to follow your journey.  And, it was nice to meet you!

Trevor (and the rest of you boys), I can't even begin to describe the chaos and nudity in the women's changing tent.  I'll just say that triathletes come in every size and shape imaginable, and they're all awesome! Kiss

Suzy, I didn't get in line to sign up for Florida next year. I may try my luck on the online reg for IM Arizona. There is an Iron distance race close to me new in 2013 called the Bear Lake Brawl ultra in September. It be the cheapest iron distance race for me. I have St George 70.3 in may so I'll concentrate on lots of hills.

So Suzy the shoe expert person......

I think this has been asked of you before but,

Looking for shoes for a 200-210 lb guy. slightly bowed tibia's(ala pronator) and a heel striker. Has broken away from running with custom orthotics.

What you recommend? Do you think he needs a stability shoe? or a neutral shoe? motion control?

fattyfatfat - 2012-11-03 11:51 PM Quick note. I promise more later. THANK YOU ALL!!! Tiana I was so surprised to see you when I came out of T2. Very sorry to hear but there will be other. Take care of that ankle!! So great to race with Linda and Justin. Those two are badasses and such wonderful people. I wish Doug made it down Great swim but perhaps left some out there as i was to dang wide on the second lap. Bike was hot, nasty wreck ~100 feet in front of me at mile 105 so i hung out with the dude until the police got there. It was really scary I wish I had a better run. My stomach locked up at mile 3. Sucked. I have 5432 blisters on my feet. but overall I'm very happy with the race. Very cool to have David catch me. Great to meet Jayne. Yes Trev she is hot. I'll post the pic I sent Kim tomorrow, then you'll understand. :-). Thank you guys so much for everything!!! You guys rock!!! Sorry for iPad formatting!

I tracked you all off and on during the day. You were awesome! I wish I was there too, but it was not meant to be, I guess. Not sure if a full Im is in my future. Looking forward to your race reports.

BTW: I did go for a rie while you were on the bike (Linda I was out on the Big Wooods loop) and got two front tire flats! Hah!

Never the day of the race.  Too worried I might over fill it and get a flat.  Always 110psi before I drop the bike off.  Figure it'll be around 100psi morning of.  Why do you ask?

What is this person running in now?  My best advice is to go to a running store and have someone fit this "person" based on a short run on their TM or outside the store.  My gut says to go from custom orthotics to no orthotics and a neutral shoe would be an error,  but I think too much stability can be a bad thing too.  If there is NO way to get a gait analysis done, I would go with a stability shoe and consider OTC orthotics.

I dumped my custom orthotics and went with a Birkie Sport insole with the Saucony Cortanas that have just a touch of stability and a 4mm heel to toe drop.  I did try several less stable, more minimal shoes (e.g. Kinvaras), but felt vulnerable in them.  I am only a slight over pronator and have a very modest heel strike when I get tired.

I'm the opposite. Always race morning. Too full and night, popping in the morning.

Maybe it matters to you and fatty a bit more than Lil Suz. 100 vs 110 someone her size is unnoticable.

Really? I used the Michelin chart as a reference.  Did I misread the graph?  My weight is at 59-60 kg and I see the blue line crossing at about 95 psi.   FYI - before I saw this graph, I was putting in 120.

...edit to note that I do use Michelins.

I know you shared this before, but every bike professional has told me that I should be carrying 100-110 psi in my tires and I weigh 45kg.  I believe the rationale was better rolling resistance, but Dineen, Tony or Doug could probably give a better explanation.

I think that is a reasonable choice.  I used to run in Adrenalines for a very long time when I was pounding out big mileage.  Then I moved to Brooks Launch before settling on the Saucony Cortanas.  Let us know how they work for you.

I always fill tires the night before.....hate to leave anything until race morning.....and ride them softer than ANYONE thinks I should.

Jeff follows me around and fills them up more in the morning.

Did I mention how awesome Jarrett is?  And the kids are adorable.  Jacy colored a picture for me--it's on my frig.  June was busy making rubber band jewelry, and Jack was showing my some dance moves.  I'm a very slow learner.  David (Georgia) is going to represent me in any future litigation, and we got to meet Bruce (bfwhitt).  He was in my first mentor group and hung out here for awhile. Wish I could have spent more time with Linda, but it was nice to meet her just the same.

If you've ever considered volunteering at an IM event and haven't yet, do it.  I felt like a superstar.  People were thanking me all day long.

I know I'm late to the party (as usual) but a fantastic job to ALL our racers this weekend!  There were great PRs, brave individuals who registered, and 4 wonderfully awesome people who made the journey to earn the right to line up at the waters edge for an ironman.  You guys are all heros!!!

Doug - I think IM Louisville is still open!  Hmmmmmmmmm

Tire pressure - I always pump to 120psi before every ride.  Why the 100-110?  Isn't that low?  I didn't think I was that heavy?

My fierce little Lilly is still rocking the cyclo-cross circuit.   Last weekend we attached the GoPro camera to her handlebars and it was so cool to see her flying around the course.  She has a natural ability to pick really good lines.  I need to spend some time riding behind her and learn the art.  I suck at that. She actually yelled at the lead single speed racer because he didn't call out when he lapped her.  She said, "what a jerk.  Just because he's in the lead doesn't mean he shouldn't call out. I mean there are roots all over the course so people aren't holding a straight line and we need to know he's coming!"   I love it when an 11 year old has better cycling manners than a 40+!!!  I'm doing my job.

I want to see pictures from everyone's activities last weekend!!!

Should I change my tire pressure from summer to winter?

Also, I commute bike and leave that bike locked up to the fence outside. I've never had any problems as far as tires ...but is that something I should be thinking about? Will really cold nights affect my tires?
