Originally posted by JJ- BIKE SHIPPING Has anyone ever used any of the bike shipping services? I'm going on vacation next week for 10 days and would like to take my bike.

I have only shipped my bike once.  With such little lead time, are you thinking of bringing it as carry on?  I shipped via FedEx/UPS ground (don't recall which, prices were very similar) and it took a while for it to travel so you would gain the use of the bike for 10 days but loose it for at least that much while it was in transit.  Also, it was quite pricey.

Yeah, I am just going to fly with my bike. It's pretty reasonable and Alaska Airlines is pretty lenient on oversize fees. Crossin' my fingers!

Ha ha ha ha ha, LOVE IT!!!  I wish that was a full length of Tobias, what cracks me up most about his outfit is the thick socks with the Birkenstocks.  I have a pair of Birks like that and I am soooo tempted to find socks like his and be Tobias for a day.

If you have a bike box or have access to one (I know some LBS's will rent them?) your best bet is to try and get it on the plane with you.  I think I paid about $150 with SouthWest last year going to a race, and it was about $160 when I brought George to the UK with me.  The price to bring it on a plane with you is also generally cheaper than what you'd pay FedEx or someone to ship it for you.

Well it's kind of last minute thinking anyway. I may just drop the bike training for a week. I'll be on the beach so I can just really focus on my swimming which needs the most improvement right now

Had an Aquathlon of two halves. The good, and the bad. Swim was a complete nightmare, but then went on to smash not only my tri 5km time by 3:09, but my standalone 5km time by 1:29 also. So well chuffed with that, but am getting really worried about the swim in a few weeks. Not far off sub 20 min, my target for this year

Congrats on that run!  Awesome!

And can I tell you how much I like the term "well chuffed"--i really, really want to start using that.

Hold the phone...sub 20 for what distance swim?

Congrats on the run! Why/how was the swim bad? Did you struggle in the water?

Thanks, I want to break 5 km run in 20 mins. I think I'm about 1: 39 away.

We've had a bit of warm weather, so the plants have had a growth spurt. Couldn't get a proper stroke going on, we were swimming through the plants and getting tangled in them. I had a major panic attack and couldn't calm myself down again, swam about 85% breast stroke. It was really tough going. 4 people got pulled out of the swim, including my bro in law. Not fun.

Awesome job on the run!

That whole OWS thing--some days it's so nice and others it's just not fun.

Wow. Ick. Sounds... nasty. Hopefully the one in a few weeks will be better conditions.

Gotta pass out. Salts, if you're swimming tonight, recycle.

Yeah ... came home really late on a travel day to a very drunk Mutti ... Kristin was beside herself with worry.

But yes, she is indeed, just very drunk, and puked a lot, and she's all puked out, and we're making sure she replenishes with plenty of liquid and electrolyte beverage

We need to just have a quiet word with the pastor and her church leader friends--somebody watch the booze and her during church meetings and festivities.

I'm sorry, but I find the thought of a quite drunken and puking all over the place Mutti hysterical.

I agree. I just didn't want to be the first to say it!

I hope someone held her hair- I always judge a good friend by that! It's pretty funny though
