Wowsers. Half marathons are hard when you don't train for them!!!

Ran a 2:07 which i was happy with considering I am so out of shape. Icey pathways made it tricky, but had fun.

Have tomorrow off, so we are going skiing. Hills opened this weekend. Hope to get in a bunch of skiing this year. The girls are old enough now to take them with us. But tomorrow it's just the lovebirds!

Great job, Trevor.  Can't imagine skiing on tired legs.  Have fun with the wifey!

OK off cheating for a second..  what do you guys think of this.   Not sure I agree with all of it.  But the premise I get.

Well, that's weird.  I added it to it and corrected the grammar.

In a nutshell,  I think  you can do less volume and still perform well during IM.  My first I was on the high volume plan, my second about 30% less volume and my third about 20% less volume from year 2.  I don't think 12 hour weeks would cut it for me, but primarily because I am still slow relatively speaking.  If I was doing 7:30s on the run and 22mph on the bike, it would probably work.  I do think that bike volume can help your running and I have proof of it in year 1.  My running was way off due to injury, yet i put down a very respectable IM marathon.  Someone in the MG asked me if I felt that putting as much time into swimming as I did this year was worth it.  I would have to say based on my result, no.  While I still hope to improve in 2013, I will be putting far less time against it.  Of course, I think I am an oddball when it comes to swimming so I doubt anything I really have to say on the topic is worth noting.

I think that was pretty much it.

1st off = Terped it!  Awesome

The answer that was given to that awesome question posed directly relates to John's post with the common denominator of your Return on Investment of training time.  Endurance Nation has created a great business model selling to all triathletes based on this premise.  I also agree with Suzy in that each person needs to figure that out for themselves by what ever means they wish.  Some use power and training stress scores (couldn't resist Fatty!), some use miles, some use time, some use EN, some have coach that watches it for them, etc.

jfought - 2012-11-11 1:50 PM  How did our racers do this weekend?  Did I miss those posts.

I finally got over the mechanical issues of the last couple of weeks and crushed it for another 1st in my Masters CX group.  Those points may just seal up the overall series victory with only 2 races remaining.  Need to sit down and do some math to confirm that.  I had a good race, good legs, good tactics, and it is always fun to win!

Nice job with the run Jayne and ski some moguls for me Trev, we are still a couple of months away from having good enough snow to do that down here.

Just back from a few days on Heron Island out on the Great Barrier Reef, lots of cocktails and scuba diving. There's sharks everywhere there! I had to laugh when my 3 kids jumped in and started snorkeling after a 5 foot reef shark, it's amazing how they're scared of sharks one minute then chasing them the next. I counted 8 cruising along the beach at high tide almost within touching distance from the sand.

Great pics from Florida! Looks like a bumpy swim. I love the running photos, you all look very relaxed.

As far as tire pressures go I just follow what's on the side of the tire, 100 psi normally. If its hot I won't pump until just before the transition closes. Last year at Noosa it sounded like a gunfight with all the tubes exploding in the heat in transition.

Just got back from a group training run for the 50 mile ultra in April.  We did one 16.5 mi. loop to get a preview of the course.  I haven't run anything more than 9 miles since last April.  Needless to say, it was a tough run, but I got it done.  3hr 31 min.

It was awesome, because about 25 people from all over northern Indiana came out, quite a few of them were women, and it was a beautiful warm day.  Ultra runners are cool.  They go very low-tech and they drink beer as a recovery drink.  Laughing

Bruce, it was great meeting you in FL and hanging out. Welcome back to the group.  What's are your winter plans?

How did our racers do this weekend?  Did I miss those posts.

John, I'm still working my way through the forum about the FL Ironman cheater girl.  I think I'm on page 10.  At this point it's looking like she might have actually done the entire race?  For some reason, I can't stop reading--kinda like watching a tragic accident in slow motion.  ha!

Thanks Jayne nice to meet you as well. The plan is still developing, first step is to recover from surgery and get off the couch. One week to go, then back in the gym and lift, want to work on the legs hard for the next two months. Outside rides, long runs, get ready for my first HIM next year,

OK been on the couch for only a week and going stir crazy. Don't think I have sat around this long since I was about ? ......ok NEVER !  Reading all the RR and comments I am ready to get back at this thing and run and not stop. One more week of this quiet desperation...maybe this is not a bad thing makes me realize how much my body likes to be moving.

Hello group and congrats Florida peeps!  I have been lurking too long without posting so I thought I would drop in.  Not much new here, just ramping up some run volume and trying to get back on track.  Planning on some spring marathons and decided on IMTX 2014 for next big event.  Hope everyone is well.

Welcome back Bruce!

Heron Island sounds fantastic, David! Really think we should do a MG meet up race in your neck of the woods.

Off to read some race reports

I was looking at Napa but Oakland is interesting.  Plan A would be BQ at Napa and run Oakland for fun!  There is kind of a nasty hill in Oakland.  Vancouver looks like a fast course at a perfect time of year for me.  Hmmm.  Awesome to see so many MG marathons.  These could be my 3.

Boston is a big monkey on my back.  They are still not sold out this year right?

I think Boston is sold out for 2013, any qualifying now is for 2014.

Napa was my first BQ, gorgeous course.  I'm not running Oakland - a) it's OAKLAND.  ewwww.  b) based upon pressure from this group, I'm racing HITS in April, and that's way too close.  O WILL do everything in my power to cheer for all who show up in Oakland, as much as I dislike the city, and perhaps even house and feed anyone in need!!!

Linda--What's wrong with Oakland?  I picked it for timing and the chance to redeem myself with you and Kim.  Yeah, there is a very large/long hill, but a steady downhill thereafter.  A BQ can be yours Chet!

I've lived in the bay area for most of my life, actually more years than I may be willing to admit to, and most of Oakland isn't a good place to be.  I've not looked at the race course, so it may be in one of the very nice areas, but it's SO NOT a destination place, more of a place I avoid.

HOWEVER!!!!!   If it doesn't conflict with a kid event.....I'll be there with pompoms and mace!!! Wine, too.  ;-)
