So I've been in and out of town getting things set in motion and I went to a out of town wedding to. I have done more training than I've logged. And if everything works and all the paperwork gets done and signed I sold my business today. I just wanted to check in and wish all the racers good luck tomorrow. I have a Sprint tomorrow the Chick-fil-a Triathlon. 400 m swim 12 mile ride and a 5K run. When I went to pick up my packet tonight I ran into some friends from church. I had no idea they did tri's. As those of you who did the HIM in Texas earlier this year already know, they are just the nicest, most down to earth, unpretentious people around. We had a very nice visit.) That is a great bike split and I would be so happy with your swim time. The run will come. I am thinking your coach will have some suggestions for you on the run. I don't know about that whole embrace the pain thing, however, I do know that the mental thing with running needs to be practiced in conjunction with the physical thing. I have found a greater resolve these days to keep going at a hard pace even when I want to walk, etc, by having hard intervals sandwiched between easier efforts during my tempo and long runs. And I kind of hate it when I see it on my schedule. Not sure if it is so good for my body right now, my ankles and feet are sore from this morning for example, but I was able to keep going hard at my oly 2 weeks ago...when I really wanted to walk. You'll get there! And once again, great job on the P.R! |

This is a 14 min HIM PR, a swim, a bike and a run HIM PR to boot. I missed the elusive 6:00 goal I was aiming for, but couldn't be happier with myself. The swim was like nothing I could have ever imagined. I never thought it could be worse than yesterday, but waves were 4-5'. My actual time was 40:26 acording to Garmin 39:56, but I waited on shore to see where my trainining partner was--she wanted to swim together because she was nervous but we lost each other, got stripped and the mat was right before transition. Apparently 50 people were brought in off the course by boat inlcluding my training partner due to conditions. First 200 yards we heard a woman screaming for help....then a woman grabbed my leg and pulled me under asking for help....me? help? I could barely keep myself above the water line--I kept swimming because I was afraid she would drown me. I didn't know what to do. There were definite periods of fright ..ended up trying to go 10 strokes at a time and then vertical to site...sometimes it worked well and sometimes I found myself drowing in lake water. The bike went according to plan--well given the 25mph winds. I stayed right at around 80% FTP. I was on the SEVEN, but stayed aero nearly all the time....yeah me!! The run was entirely cross country which I never knew ahead of time--grass, hiking trails, rocks (yes, rocks), mud you name it--their descripton said parts are on a shaded trail ...I turned on my watch and never looked at it. I allowed myself to walk all water stops and that killed my time, but that was it. Chewing ice is my new best friend. I was really feeling fine, but the terrain was tough. I turned my sore ankle on a tree root going down this hill...fortunately, it doesn't hurt, yet. Haven't uploaded my files or figured out how smartly I addressed to nutrition plan...seemed a little light, but not sure.The legs are sore, but my upper body is the worst. Never have my pecs, shoulders, tris/bis and lats hurt so much. Fricking Lake Winnebago! Paul's whole family is coming to our house tomorrow afternoon for a cook out so I need to start running around like a crazy person getting ready!!! Maybe I will be shuffling.....
