Extreme Veteran 398 Sea Isle City, NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Is anyone planning on getting a swim in on Friday or Saturday morning? I know they aren't doing the Gatorade swim anymore, but wanted to see if anyone else wanted to get a warmup swim in. |

Extreme Veteran 398 Sea Isle City, NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Ok....need some last minute advice. A little worried about the water temps. I swam a lap last week up there in the afternoon and I was cooking in my full suit. The same suit I felt great in racing in 2008. I do feel pretty confident we will be wetsuit legal but I my guess is it will be still warm. Ok here is the tricky part. Do I go out and get a sleeveless jobby for $129 (see the Xterra Vortex 3 advertisement that keeps tantalizingly popping up here on BT!!) or do I stay put and not worry about it. I know it is crazy at the last minute here....let's assume cash isn't the problem (at least let's take that out of the equation as spending is always an issue). Is it a good choice to have a sleeveless option available? I can get a couple of swims in it before the race to ensure I am comfortable. What are your thoughts guys and gals? |

What are your thoughts guys and gals? if cash is not the problem, get it! you can also rent them for $40. my plan is to have all 3 on hand....full, sleeveless and speed suit. will make decision Saturday. cooking on the swim is not a good way to start the day. |

Extreme Veteran 353 New York | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Wetsuit: I would go sleeveless if you can afford it. Sleeves are way too hot for water in the 70s. But then, I'm a cold water person and don't wear sleeves if the water is warmer than the high 50s... |

Just bring scissors and if you decide to go sleeveless, just start cutting. But seriously, I was cooking a little too in the afternoon but I think it was because of the 'afternoon sun' more than the water temp. We will not have the sun beating down on us at 7 AM. |

60 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Related question about the Friday Welcome Dinner.......Is it skippable....even for us first-timers? I have heard the food is a little lame, it's crowded etc. My thought was at most to go just to hear the talk on race specifics but even for that I am wondering if there is anything they are going to tell me that I cannot read in the Athlete Guide? I would prefer to hang at my hotel if possible. Thanks P.S. For those of you planning on finishing and then coming back to cheer on the final racers I say thank you as I will be one of them (Bib #1388 - Brian) |

Not because of the information, but because of the atmosphere and the pomp and circumstance. I'm no fan of corporate WTC, but this is one thing they do WELL. Hands down! Do not hang out in your hotel room. This will be my fourth IM and I will not miss the dinner. Not because of the food, information or anything else. You know the chills you get when watching Kona on TV...multiply that by 10 and you get the chills from being in that room. |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread My 2 cents on wetsuits. I have only once been hot in my wetsuit. That was when I was practicing in 84 degree water. What people have not mentioned/not thought about is what I did. Just flush your suit every once in a while. I 'perfected' it. Simply grab the collar and let a big rush of cold water in. I actually do like a roll so I can breath as well and I got a rush of cold water in and I was golden. It costs you like 1-2 seconds each time and you still gain the benefit of a full sleeve suit (for buoyancy/speed). |

Totally going now. Thanks for the info. And for the suggestion about the wetsuit. I'm starting to flip out a little, as I really broke the bank getting my Xterra Vortex (and yes, that was WITH all the discounts! I can barely afford this sport!) and I can't really afford to buy another one right now. Edited by swishyskirt 2010-07-15 3:33 PM |

Master 2621 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Pop quiz hot shot! What goes Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh….CRACK! Give up? My Felt B12 seat post clamp; you know the one that is pressed into the frame and keeps my seat post from sliding into the frame. I discovered it after I finished my ride today. My Felt is a 08 and this was a issue with this year. Last I talked to the LBS (Race Pace and great so far) I bought it at in Westminster, MD said should be overnighted or here no later than Monday. We will see. So Monday less than a week away from LP and I have to drive to Westminster, MD 1:15hr then back to build the bike up. Maybe sooner or later fun stuff! Edited by tasr 2010-07-15 9:03 PM |
