I have my first half marathon Sunday, and my body thinks it's on cruise control. I get like that right before a race, like senioritis from training. |

I can get on the phone and speak redneck with you. That's probably more obnoxious than mandarin. Seriously though, a lady in my Master's class last night asked me where I was from because of my accent that she just couldn't place. i like redneck. i like southern drawl. all that i can handle. i can't understand it anymore than i understand mandarin, but at least it doesn't make my eardrums bleed. Oh, I do NOT like redneck. Southern drawl, it really depends. Midwestern is my favorite - it cracks me up. The other thing that annoys me is how people from Southern California speak - like border-line valley girl. Fracking irritating. I get pegged for a northerner all the time. What are you, like, talking about? Like I don't like, understand. Well, there's that, but it's just the overall inflection (like going up at the end of every sentence) and how some of the vowels are mangled - the vowel thing is prevalent along the West Coast in general (like my girl friend from Oregon in college, who said "peenk" instead of "pink"), but overall it's annoying. |

I had a spin class instructor who constantly said "heeeels" instead of "hills" - I finally caught on using my awesome context comprehension skillz, but the guy next to me halfway through the class turned to me and said "we're climbing WHAT? In high heels?" LOL |

It's still annoying though Edited by wurkit_gurl 2009-05-12 3:36 PM |

Except that I don't have a Boston accent, a Brooklyn accent, a Jersey accent, etc. It's not that noticeable except that next to a Southerner, yeah, I sound like a Yankee - and to others who are from the Northeast. But I don't have a distinct regionalism or accent at all, actually. Brooklyn/Jersey, etc accents are annoying as crap. I love the Boston accent, not because it's necessarily sophisticated or pleasant to hear, but it brings back nice memories of New England, etc |

It'll become clearer in the next few weeks what's feasible. The point is to go home ASAP. I waste a lot of money by going back and forth and paying rent here while I'm gone, but whatever. |
