Regular 125 Saint Johns, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ok another post which dovetails with the last one: For those of you that bring a whole crew with you: what do they do all day? I know I won't actually care what they're doing in between 5 second glances of them, but I want to be able to provide some sort of guide for them. Can they drive out to a point on the bike and catch a glimpse of the action? Can they get around the run course to see anything? Should they plan to try to see coming out of T1, T2 and Finish? How do they time their appearances? By projected times? Following along online? Not a major concern right now, but as I was thinking about where to stay these thoughts popped up. PS. for those that know me and my story, I know I haven't posted in a while, but the hip is feeling really strong. E-Dub |

Regular 87 Fort Myers, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Shores of Panama - I am staying here I was able to find a condo to fit everyone. It is a 2 bedroom with bunk beds for the kids and one room has 2 queen beds and the other has 1 king. For 5 days I spent about $850. It is just down the beach from start finish line. It is about a 1/4 mile. It has a great outdoor pool for the kids and also a indoor pool if it is cold. I looked at it last year and liked that it was close to everything. You should also look at lake town warf it is right across the street for shores of panama and I have a friend staying there. Sorry I do not know much about the other places. The Boardwalk Beach condos were expensive when I looked at them and I did not want the hotel because I wanted to be able to cook my own food most of the time. Ocean Ritz (Not sure if it's close enough) Majestic Beach Towers I&II (Seems to be a lot of larger condos here) Boardwalk Beach Resort (Obvious, but limited... Maybe too crazy?) Grandview West at Long Beach (Most ads say under 25 OK, so I assume this is a Spring Break Dump). |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Look at Shores of Panama and the one across the street. Both are nice and less than a mile from transition for easy walking. if your family is at either they can spend most of the day at the beach or pool. You can drive out on teh bike course for sure. There are 2 out and back sections that are good places because you can see your athlete twice in a short period of time The run is 2 loop out and back. The first year I had freinds out around on the course and it was so awesome to see them!! Use projected finish/loop times to help your family. You can rent a GPS from http://www.trackmyathletecom I did that last year. It worked really well on teh bike but not so much on the run. Edited by Socks 2011-06-10 12:26 PM |

Regular 125 Saint Johns, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Yep, I saw that trackmyathlete.com before, but haven't used it. Seems like a great idea. Iphone will do it too (supossedly), but that's way to big to lug around/keep dry, etc. That company would do well to incorporate a timing chip and get their product on every racer in every IM. And if so is it only 1/4 mile from the swim start/walking distance? Also where should we fly into? Is everyone packing bike and bringing it as a carry on? Southwest Airlines? thanks I am staying at the shores of panama. It is about a 1/4 mile from start. I am driving but You can fly southwest into Panama city. When I looked it seemed very close compared to the other airports and the rates were not that bad through southwest. |

She has done the race twice before and has stayed at the shores but we will have alot of family with us. This way its cheaper for the both of our families. We will be driving down from VA. Now 4 weeks into training and its going really great. |

Veteran 239 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread LMAO at the New Orleans "69.1" -- too funny to see it in print... There are a number of places you can look at. Picked up a stay at Laketown Wharf this trip... both this and Shores are fairly convenient without being in the heart of the "noise". btw, I think SunBird is almost only 1BR, with a few 2BRs which I think might take up the Dining space... Ok I'm looking for the 69.1 - I saw a few blogs with this - just looking to see if IM put this moniker out - that would be great - I did the NO 70.3 in '09 (or at least I think it was 70.3) |

35 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I checked in last year on Wednesday morning and it was smooth with short lines. I got there on Monday because I had the week off but the crowd seemed to pick up Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. I also wanted to get in a couple of gulf swims. Good luck. Last year was awesome. |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Yea, we won't be able to get there until Thursday afternoon sp I do expect a crowd. Wednesday would be nice but not doable at this time. Besides, I'd go stir crazy being there too early waiting for the race. Duane |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Question on wheels... I apologize if this has already been asked before. I'm being a little lazy tonight by not looking back. What wheelset make up is everyone riding? I just bought a set of Zipp 1080's (F&R) because of an awesome deal and was wondering if I should look for an 808 for the front instead or possibly even a 404? I took them out for my first ride with a little wind and it wasn't too much of a problem for a front 1080. Just wondering if I should just keep my current setup or look to modify it. |

I was wondering the same thing. I have ridden my 1080's in windy conditions with minimal problems but could see where a shallower front would help. I'm going to hang up and listen. Haha. |

Veteran 239 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread mroudabush - 2011-06-10 6:34 AM lemon-lime is the only flavor offered since Power Bar took over for Gatorade. Best to train on the lemon-lime. It does ahve more sodium then the Gator drink. Last year after Louisville it took a month before I would even loook at the Power Bar drink I did IMKS 70.3 on 6/12. They actually had the ready-made orange mango on the run, and it was very palatable. We talked to the guy at the Perform tent before the race, and he was the one telling us they wouldn't be using the powder version on the run... and definitely not the lemon-lime. I really hope they would use this on the run for IMFL, but I wouldn't bet on it. It was really easy on the stomach. |

Ok that is good to know! We're doing 120 miles this Sat, so need to look for orange mango before than.
