One thing that had me searching the internet is why the 50m shooters were wearing full motorcycle looking leathers to shoot.  After 15 minutes of searching, no luck.

Thank goodness they explained it in the coverage or it would have been one of those things that would have bugged me for days.

If having those prosthetics are such an advantage as people say, how come he's the only one with them who qualified for the Olympics? IF they're so great, then it should just be double-amputees out there.

He's my new favorite Olympian because he's been able to qualify despite having no legs.

One of his arguements that didn't hold water with me (not entirely) is that if they gave him such an advantage, why haven't they seen a flood of times from athletes using them qualifying or putting in times comprible to able boddied athletes.

I think he IS a standout athlete.  That's why he is better than all the rest.  And if he was able boddied, he may be at the same spot he is  now.  But he COULD be slightly slower, or slightly faster.  Can't tell.

His arguement would only be accurate if they gave a HUGE advantage and let a couch potato run olympic paces.  It's the small advantage (no matter how small) they worry about.

Can I ask why the guy with the fake legs was racing with all the other "normal" athletes?  Why wouldn't he races with other amutees?

I have no opinion or emotion on this subject just wondering why?

Oscar Pistorius went through a long, long appeals process for that, and it was finally determined that the specific legs he used to run did not present any advantage over human legs ... and he was good enough to qualify and run in the Olympics. I believe he will also run in the Paralympics.

There are actually a surprising number of physically challenged athletes who qualify and compete in the Olympics.

I'm sure there are plenty with some challenges that's not as directly related to their sport.  Like if a shooter or paddler had an artificial leg.

Fake legs with running?  I see why it caused a debate.

There's a Ping-Pong player with half an arm.

Natalie du Bois isn't contesting these Olympics, but she was the OWSer with no lower leg.

However, neither of these women are using prostheses.

haha!  That's his arguement and I explained why it's not totally valid.  If they are a  huge advantage, that would be happening.  But not getting a huge advantage doesn't exlude ANY advantage.  And I'm sure sure if anyone should be getting an unfair advantage no matter how small...

But as it stands.  I'm completely happy he is there and love the story and think he's great.

Recently, it seems several thread have funky formating.  They look weird on my home computer, but ok on the Ipad...  I wonder why?  I wonder if whoever started it, did it on an OS that BT is not handling well?

Are they the same threads I see as Times Roman and poor quoting? Scoobysdad seems to have a number of these. I think the Olympics secret crushes thread is also wacky.

There's some odd formatting there. I'll go clean it up.
