Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sent in my registration this morning for the Dances With Dirt 50K Race Series. I couldn't resist this description, "The ultimate ultra challenge! By completing an ultramarathon at all four Dances with Dirt Locations, you have completed the World's Worst Ultra Series entitling you to the coveted Bloodied, Boned, Bruised & Burned belt buckle that will scare your running and non-running friends shitless when in your presence!" My 2013 race schedule is shaping up like this: Not many triathlons in the lineup, but I WILL be doing my first HIM, and having a lot of fun running the trails. Full Ironman in 2014 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got some good news today so time to share a story. Just after Ragnar in November I noticed a flutter in my chest while at work. My coworkers ran an EKG and found "Uncontrolled A-Fib". I was transported and my heart was shocked to put it back into a normal rhythm. They sent me home right after but I was not cleared to work. Step one was to be cleared for work, then cleared to run again. After the barrage of tests, the cardiologist concluded TODAY that I am 100% cleared to do another Ironman. This was after much discussion and questions about dropping dead. I feel like I am starting completely over again and plan to build up slowly. It may be a while before I have the confidence to BQ again but I am so excited to be able to get back out there. There have been stories shared in these forums that have humbled and inspired me. We all have our challenges, thought I should share one of mine. Chet

New user![]() | ![]() Hi all, I wanted to post my progress for this year and get your experience on shingles. Last week, I was able to get in 5 runs, 2 swims, and 1 bike workout! I built up my runs to 25 miles per week without incurring injury! I hope to build it up to mid 30 miles/week prior to starting Pfitz 18/55 in the next two months. For swimming, I was able to swim my first 400 miles straight! This was after 2-3 months of training! The posts on this MG has kept me motivated! After my long run this past Saturday, I noticed a rash on my chest and back. I thought it was from a dirty heart rate strap |

Tough for me to get it. No way around the fact that you are going to lose some running fitness, but you are training to be a "triathlete" now, not just a runner. I think what Dineen is trying to say is "if you stop running altogether and only sit on your bike for a solid season winning awards left and right you will lose run fitness". Isn't that right Dino? Worked well enough for me that I plan on following the same plan again this year. Running will stop during Road Racing and Crit season and then will resume with only high intensity stuff in preparation of Cross season. Maybe its just me, but I have always felt that my biking helped my running a heck of a lot more than my running helped my biking ........ I don't know why, but I totally agree. When I was injured and off running for six months all that biking really paid off. Just back from Europe, I haven't had time to catch up on all the posts but this one seemed relevant. My left ankle tendinosis healed whilst away and my running seemed to be coming back well but now my old problem, right ITB pain has flared up! I'm getting concerned I won't be able to sort these run problems out in time. I've got 17 weeks till my IM. |

Have you done that? You would be suprised how a tight/weak something leads to a problem in another area. All these lower body injuries suggest to me that you have some muscle imbalances that need to addressed asap. Healing an injury by not running, doesn't address the root cause. I agree if you don't deal with it, you may very well have an issue as the training load gets much heavier. |

If I intend to do moe then i might purchase a wetsuit. There is aguy who got me into this sport and he said get the wetsuit. He said the watch was big and bulky. I dont want to get it and not use it due to size.

I tested out the 910XT last year and didn't find it bulky and my wrist is puny. It's expensive though. I use the 310XT and you can usually find pretty good deals on them since they are the older model. If you don't care about swim metrics, this is a great way to go. Nothing wrong with renting a wetsuit, just make sure you give yourself an extra week or two with it before your race to get used to it. Depending on the rental fee, it MAY be worth it to buy your own. I started with a cheap Nineteen for my first two years and migrated up once I knew I liked the sport. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Started my real training plan this week. Yesterday was an awesome training day, not sure where all my energy came from (nutrition?) . Had a nice AE run in zone 2 in the afternoon focused on technique and relaxing my shoulders, followed by 1200 in the pool nice and easy focusing on technique. Have not been in the pool for 3 months, I was surprised how goooooood it felt. It really helped to loosen up my shoulders and relax my whole body. Then did some leg strength training and stretching. I wish every day felt that good could have gone all night..... No racing for me this weekend. As far as balance in training, one of the reasons I got involved in multisport was not only for the overall body conditioning but because I get bored easily. So physically having that balance of multi training has been a huge plus for my body and psychologically it keeps me motivated. The beauty is, if you need to give your body a break in one area you always have to others to fall back on. I believe in strength training and the 10% rule when I can remember it I want to be doing this for a long time so slow incremental increases and continue to build a balanced base is my goal.
