That's rude, especially in response to people who are having a hard time finding a job. We get it, you guys have skills people want. That's great, but geez, dont rub people's faces in it. That's just rude. mehaner - 2013-03-26 2:53 PM mr2tony - 2013-03-26 2:51 PM Yeah engineers can pick and choose what they want to do and where they want to work, mostly. The rest of us dummies can't. if that's how you choose to interpret what i said, then go ahead with that. I have to go where the jobs are just like everyone else, more so than most as it is a rather niche field. there are NO job openings for what I do in the area I live in. I would have to bumb somebody off for there to be an opening in research.
all i was saying is that you can't compare job hunting across different fields/industries. it's a different market and you can't see one person getting a job quickly as a sign that you should get one quickly as well. however, i agree that it is kinda rude to brag about getting interviews for jobs you don't want as well. |

The upside to my job is there are always more openings than their are people to fill them and it is not often that someone with my credetials comes on the market. And I was just giving Troy a little good natured ribbing the way he has done to me. I do not recall saying is don't want either job one is in HIV research which I think would be awesome. The other is doing much what I do now just for hopefully a better boss. I do not know if I will be able to take either position or what I would have to do to make that a reality. I wold love the Job in MD but though I will probably be able to get it I do not know if I will be able to take it therefore sending my resume was on a whim more than on a concentrated effort. If I did not want the job I would not have sent my resume.

Does degree really matter (professional degrees exempt) if the person has decades of experience.tcarlson78 - 2013-03-26 2:43 PM So a question from the FNG job hunter. what/or is there a trick to decode a job posting? I am reading some of the local postings and my mind is reading buzzword type descriptions then trying to figure out what they said and its not technical stuff like Kate does in the lab. Other posts I read and know in my heart that I have done that job several times and can do it again but my challenge is the translation of my skills into thier vernacular. Is that not industry specific? Yeah the problem is that HR people are the ones making the initial assesment not the people actually doing the hiring. HR people can only look for keywords in order to weed out resumes and often one of those key words is a degree.

As a hiring manager I have asked the recruiters to send me the resume of everyone who has proactively applied for the position. I don't always trust their judgement. Nor do I trust them to differentiate for me the people who they are actively recruiting and the people who have proactively sought out this particular position |

Hmmm and I have seen you say the same sort of carp to others regardless of who can see. Your judgment of pretention is based on your own bias. This is TAN remember? I don't joke with you or your vatas for good reason. Other people I will and I won't stop because you get your panties in a twist due to your own bias.
