Tony/ Sam great pictures. My grandaughter is into swimming too. Soon she'll be out there without floaties. I said as soon as she is as tall as Suzy she can go without them. She said that should be soon

Mark. Your daughter is so cute. She sure knows how to relax by the pool

Triana. Way to hang in there with the winds. They can really toughen you up in a hurry. I certainly don't agree with the No drop rides and then dropping people.

Man, I wasn't even around to defend myself....where is the Twin when I need her?

My 6 year old nephew went around calling me "tiny pants" all day on Sunday.  I can't catch a break.

Working!!!  And Rob, shame on you!  Where are the cute pics of your granddaughter?

Enjoyed a rest day this morning.

Training question:  My new wetsuit chafed a little under the arm area.  What to put on it so it doesn't bug me all day?  Foolishly, I grabbed the bodyglide that had nothing in it.  That's what I get for not throwing it away after my last tri.

Also, at Oceanside, a nice gal sprayed something on my neck and I didn't have any chafing there.  Anyone know what that could have been?  I forgot to ask her.

Thanks, guys.

Kim -- I put BG on anyplace the wetsuit chafes pre-swim (of course part of that is a learning experience, the hard way). I need it on the back of my neck and around my clavicle bones (weird, huh)? For post-activity chafe, I either apply more BG or chamois butt'r (even if it's not a chamois chafe, I find it helps). Aquafor (sp?) can work too. Poor you!! But yay for the swim!

So I swam again tonight, not a breakthrough like last week. I did 2 10x50 warm ups, one with the buoy one without. Without the buoy I just feel like I am sinking, I cannot get the kick right at all. I watched the total immersion video and I cant seem to get some of the balancing done. I see the technique and understand how it should work. AFter the warmup I did 16 10x50 and 1 10x100 to see where I stood. I didnt time it, no waterproof watch and cant read the clock from the pool.

I am trying to make sure I keep my elbows high, try to extend fully but I have a hard time w/ my and entering the water about a foot in front of my head. I am tall so I dont know if that is what the problem is. Does anyone have any good recommendations or drills to improve my kicking, elbows and what not? I am more comfortable with breathing but I just havent got the rolling over perfected. I am not sure on how to slow myself down and pace myself to swim farther. I am having a really tough time.

Since I got a USAT membership I really should do at least four triathlons. I have two down trying to decide which other two I should do or go for broke and try to do more.  I meet a lady at my Saturday tri who is doing ten sprints this year.

tritiny - 2010-06-22 8:42 AM Ok, I'm getting tired of WIND.  Last night I went to the local no drop ride which I still get dropped each week. I get to the start and there are big gray clouds in the sky and the radio is saying thunderstorm warning and I'm thinking that I'll wait and see who comes and we'll talk for a minute then decide to cancel the ride. Nope. About 20 people showed and started the ride.  I got droped about 2 miles into the ride.  The storm picked up and the crosswinds felt like I was getting pushed off the road. I was mad at myself for even starting the ride. I was mad about being dropped again. I made it to the Loves gas station. And waited out the big wind and rain with two other dropped guys. When it died down I headed back to my car. The guys continued on together.  Nobody got hurt or crashed but I still think we made the wrong choice to ride.

So now I think I've ridden in about all types of wind.  I'm hoping that the wind for my MS150 will be on my back.

Tiana

Awww man, Tiana.... you get HUGE, MAJOR bad-@$$ props from me!! I cannot believe people get dropped on the no-drop ride. I would be livid. But determined as well. Good for you for sticking it out. I've had my fair share of "what the heck am I doing riding my bike in this crap" rides this year and every time I told myself, "That which doesn't kill you..." Sometimes it's a wonder we make it out alive. You are strong and tough and awesome. Good job to you. One day I hope you drop those peeps!!

I see my monday rides as my tempo rides.  I push myself to go faster trying to keep up.  The week before last I made ten miles before I got dropped.  So I'll keep going.  And I'll keep getting dropped Until one day I'll fly right past them.

Sorry folks! Computer issues again - had to post my stuff through my other small computer as my computer won't allow me to post anything (google-analytics issues! grrrr). So I'll try my best to catch up on the posts tomorrow!!

But I do have something to ask though -

Do you ever have a workout when you did something consistently same time/speed for a long time, then all of sudden when you did something "big", you see your time / speed and you start questioning yourself whether it's real or not?!

I had the same thing this afternoon during my 2x1000 swims.  I *normally* do 2:30 in 100m, then I increased my times. Since I did Fast/EASY on the 800's last week, it was under 2:24ish pace.

Now it's 2:10?! I did moderate the first few 100's then fast for the rest. I was looking at my watch and I kept telling myself, "NO WAY!!" I was so sure that I lost count, but I'm now not too sure!

Anyone have this happen?  I'm too scared that it was too be to be true and I lost count. Undecided

Again, I promise I'll read up on the posts, and I'm looking forward into reading the racer's big weekend...I caught somewhere that someone won their AG! So..yeah I'm missing out!

Waconia Triathlon

So my goals for this weekend:
Swim (1/2 mile):  15 minute swim, yes it only puts me at 1:50/100, but I am planning for chop, I have never been on the lake when it wasn't fairly rough. Had a very good day in the pool yesterday with some recent tweaks to my stroke, I move through the water much easier with improvements to my catch.  I imagine it will be wetsuit legal.  Sub 1:50/100 is the goal pace, if the water is calm(er) it will just be time in the bag.

<1:30 T1

Bike(20 Miles): 21 MPH average(57:08), but more concerned that my power comes out to 240.  I am going to push hard on the bike, and if my run suffers, then it will be what it is, but it will give me a better estimate of what I can race. I rode the course Monday morning, not nearly as bad at the beginning as I remember, but we also did not have a huge head wind like the race last year.  There are 5 rollers that get increasingly big I felt towards the end that I forgot about.  I think at speed, they will be fairly easy to navigate.

<1:00 T2

Run(4 Miles): 7:15/mile = 29 minutes total.  If it is hot, this will be the most challenging.  I need to see how my legs feel off the bike and mentally break through toughness.  I have been doing some speed workouts and know that I am close to getting into a 6 minute mile over this distance.

Overall: 1:43:38 (With ideals going below 1:40)

Mental note: The finish line is not when I go under the arch off the road, it is another 50 yards down in the grass.  There are some funky finish line pictures of me hands above my head or on my hips because I thought I was done, to find out the finish was still 50 yards up.  Oops

As much as I like to plan and have things in mind, I learned from my first race this year, listen to your body.  Numbers are just that, and can help you keep on pace or on target, but they can also hold you back.  If your body is willing to run faster than you planned on, go with it, especially over shorter distance races.

Tiana.....Love the attitude.  I still ride every week, and have for the last couple of years, with a group of elite riders (Cat 1-3) that drop me every week on the same hill coming home.  I have actually earned thier respect because I keep showing up and get dropped later on that hill every week, plus most of these guys are 1/2 my age.  I also just keep thinking, one of these days I am going to lead the attack up that hill!   Besides it is a fun group...and that is twice the battle anyway!

Congrats to you for being persistent, that attitude will take you a long way in this sport.  Smile

Had a very good day in the pool yesterday with some recent tweaks to my stroke, I move through the water much easier with improvements to my catch.  I imagine it will be wetsuit legal.  Sub 1:50/100 is the goal pace, if the water is calm(er) it will just be time in the bag.

Jeff--first very complete race strategy!!!  I was having the very same thought about how hard you can legitimately push the bike and not kill your run.  I'll be interested to see how you hold up.....

Anyone else have any thoughts on the push on the bike to keep a strong run?
