Thanks James. I do love your Felt. My training (and previous race) bike is an 07 Felt S22. It served me very well and I still love riding it. The Cannondale was a deal too good to be passed up and is about 3lbs lighter.

Interesting note is that I talked to our regional Felt rep last week and he said they can retrofit any bike that has a 1" steerer with the bayonette fork. Oh and the Blackwells looked better with the Felt black and yellow paint scheme!

They went out of business and John Cobb continues to make saddles but no longer makes the wheels. I got these off eBay at the end of 2007 for a much reduced price.

James - what are the razor blade and 2 pennies for?

Monty - i have those same bottle holders on my seat. Do you have any secrets to keep them from turning into bottle launchers on race day? I launched a bottle during a training ride on the big downhill.

Nice rides, both of you!

No tips that i can think of. I have only launched one in training and it was over a bridge flex joint. I plan on using the on course bottles only so we will see how they hold. I will have the Aerodrink up front and keep one bottle in the back for refills. My spare stuff will be stuffed into a bottle on the downtube.

2010 GUEST BANQUET TICKETS

The remaining tickets to the welcome dinner and awards banquet will be sold on-site at the banquets on a first-come, first-served basis.

(Each athlete will receive complimentary entry into the banquets with their wristband.)

Soooo....how early should we get there to have everyone get tickets to the welcome dinner?

I think they will seat everyone who shows up - last year we got there about 1/2 hour after the start time and the lineup for tickets was about 1/2 hour.  The fairgrounds tent is huge - there were lots of empty spots, so as long as you get there a bit early, should be no problem (even with 500+ more racers than last year).

An Open Letter to the IMLP Official Thread

Let me begin by saying thank you. Thank you for allowing me to share in your journey over the past few months even though I am not one of your numbers. I hope I have been helpful and supportive when asked, amusing from time to time, and irritating every now and then. I strive for them all.

Next Sunday, some of you will race your first Ironman. Some of you will race yet another Ironman. Although your goals will be different for the day, all of you share the common goal of finishing. I can't tell you how you day will unfold, but I can tell you one thing with great certainty. You have ALL already been victorious. Qualify for Kona or DNF due to a mechanical or nutritional problems, or just poor execution, it doesn't matter. You have already accomplished the SINGLE MOST DIFFICULT part of this journey: The Training. To be able to endure the training for an Ironman is truly the most difficult part. And you have all acquitted yourself wonderfully. You have achieved something amazing, cherish that and go into your race knowing you are an amazing ATHLETE.

The razor blade is to cut the tubulars tires off.  The pennies are to tighten the plastic fasteners for my aero disk cover.

I can't tell if dharris13 was being all facetious, but I really did get teary-eyed. Man, I'm gonna be a mess come race day. I'll just cry at the drop of a hat. Thanks for the really kind and motivating sentiments, Bryan!

Ditto... I've bawled each time I've done a longer distance!  This year my mom will be up to watch me race and once I see her it's going to be full on waterworks... the Adirondacks were my dad's second home and he's not around to watch the race. *sigh*

Now, I know we have this thread and I know we have an athletes guide to read..but is there anything else that is an FAQ/IMLP for Dummies that I can read?  I really have stupid questions floating in my head and I'd rather just look up the answer then ask them here!!

Inflammation & Pain:

My wife is an emergency room physician with a top New England Hospital (and before this, Dartmouth Medical School and UMASS residency). Her advice to me for managing inflammation and pain during IMLP is below. As always, check with your doctor as your situation may differ.

Anti-inflammation. Take two (2) 200mg of Advil (Ibuprofen) a day during Thu-Sat, after a meal. On Sunday, take two (2) 200mg at 6am and then another two (2) 200mg at T2. (So, put one pack of two capsules in pre-race bag, and put a second pack of capsules in T2 bag.)

Pain relief. Take two (2) Extra Strength Tylenol (Acetaminophen), which relieves mild to moderate pain from headaches, muscle aches, colds, sore throats, toothaches, backaches, etc. Take Tylenol at T2, if needed. (So, put one pack of two capsules in T2 bag.)
