That would be my new bike. Took it out for 1.5 hours last night and the entire ride was almost effortless. What a difference a decent bike makes!

Such an awesome feeling!!! Congratulations!

When it starts to feel like there's big effort again... clean your chain. I've learned that gives you the new bike feeling all over again!

SSMinnow - 2010-06-23 6:12 AM  Cheeleader Jump WOW, I am beyond excited today.....I know we have a lot of people racing this weekend. Raise those hands and tell us your plans!!!!

For those of us not racing, reflect back on your last race or even the early season and give us your  biggest learning so far!  It might help others in the MG!

I'm all tempted to be a smart-@$$ and talk about some "no big deal" race I'm doing this weekend. But I just can't.

Ironman Coeur d'Alene!!
Bib #2514

My strategy is to go, go some more, keep going, a bit farther, not done yet, more, more, more, keep moving forward...  for many, many hours. I have all sorts of thoughts running through my brain, but I always come back to, "It's gonna be a long day," and "What will be, will be." I will control what I can. I will hope my body will cooperate. I will aim to be smart with pacing and nutrition. At the same time, I want to give the race as much as I can give and aim to achieve my secret goal time (which I've said before so maybe it's not so secret, but I don't want to get hung up on it). I want to savor the day and the moments -- the good ones and the bad ones. I want to share the experience (ups AND downs) with my friends, teammates, and fellow athletes. I want to high-five my family a few times during the race. I want there to be one good bike and one good run picture of me. I want to cross the finish line.

Then I want to come back and tell you guys all about it.

Thanks for all of the support!!!

Tony/ Sam great pictures. My grandaughter is into swimming too. Soon she'll be out there without floaties. I said as soon as she is as tall as Suzy she can go without them. She said that should be soon

Mark. Your daughter is so cute. She sure knows how to relax by the pool

Triana. Way to hang in there with the winds. They can really toughen you up in a hurry. I certainly don't agree with the No drop rides and then dropping people.

Man, I wasn't even around to defend myself....where is the Twin when I need her?

My 6 year old nephew went around calling me "tiny pants" all day on Sunday.  I can't catch a break.

Working!!!  And Rob, shame on you!  Where are the cute pics of your granddaughter?

Enjoyed a rest day this morning.

Training question:  My new wetsuit chafed a little under the arm area.  What to put on it so it doesn't bug me all day?  Foolishly, I grabbed the bodyglide that had nothing in it.  That's what I get for not throwing it away after my last tri.

Also, at Oceanside, a nice gal sprayed something on my neck and I didn't have any chafing there.  Anyone know what that could have been?  I forgot to ask her.

Thanks, guys.

She might have used Pam cooking spray. that's what I use.

Apparently reading further down the messages PAM is nto the way to go. Funny I also heard the BG wasn't good for your suit either.

I did a run last night that was a series of 1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400, 200 at increasing speeds after a 20 minute warm-up if you can even say that when it was still 90 at 7PM. Saw some good times, but I think I made a decision to skip the marathon this year.  I felt my knee was ever so slightly sore after the run, similar to the IT Band issues I have had in the past.

Plan is to take many of the Key workouts from the plan I was going to follow and use them while training for the half, but skip the marathon this year, maybe pull a second half.  I need to get my body in check and would hate for my tri performance to suffer because of the marathon training.

I went with my wife to the ortho last night as she had been having problems with her knee after a skiing mishap in CO this Feb.  Luckily everything came back ok, just needs to work on her strength in the glutes. I plan on doing these exercises with her (to make sure she does them, and to get personal benefit from them as I think I am weak in the same areas but just experience a little different area of soreness)

That being said,  The bike should be interesting.  My last race even on the bike I felt like my legs were not fully under me and think it resulted around 209.  I am aiming to push 240, mostly with the expectation that it will average out to 225-230 if I am on.  I know my legs can handle it, its the execution.  The heat will have most the effect on the run as well as mental barriers and pushing through tough times.

Although I have not really planned that well to have this be an "A" race, I would like one of my better performances at this race.  Weather looks like low of 60 high of 80 with 8-10 mph winds, and a 30% chance of isolated storms, hopefully they isolate elsewhere.

I already have pre-race jitters just thinking about it!

CyborgQueen - 2010-06-23 1:09 I had the same thing this afternoon during my 2x1000 swims.  I *normally* do 2:30 in 100m, then I increased my times. Since I did Fast/EASY on the 800's last week, it was under 2:24ish pace.

Now it's 2:10?! I did moderate the first few 100's then fast for the rest. I was looking at my watch and I kept telling myself, "NO WAY!!" I was so sure that I lost count, but I'm now not too sure!

Anyone have this happen?  I'm too scared that it was too be to be true and I lost count. Undecided

Again, I promise I'll read up on the posts, and I'm looking forward into reading the racer's big weekend...I caught somewhere that someone won their AG! So..yeah I'm missing out!

It's very easy to lose count but I say accept it as a great break through and then confirm it with your next swim. Always go to the positive side first.

I just found out that due to the G20 Summit we are closing our office for the next 2 days. Here comes a great long weekend. We'll pay for it trying to catch up next week but what can you do. Apparantly the world leaders cause numerous security issues The protestors have already started big time here.

I have a race this weekend.  I'm doing the TriRaider sprint. It's part of the Buffalo Springs 70.3. It looks like going to be hot and according to the website today it may not be wetsuit legal. It's exactly the same course as I did in my first tri last month. I would like to improve on my times. It will be interesting to compare a 62 degree with a wetsuit swim to a 78 degree without a wetsuit swim on the same course.  I just sign up for it today so I'll also see how I do racing back to back sprints. It should be fun. I might be addicted to racing.

Mett - 2010-06-22 8:04 PM So I swam again tonight, not a breakthrough like last week. I did 2 10x50 warm ups, one with the buoy one without. Without the buoy I just feel like I am sinking, I cannot get the kick right at all. I watched the total immersion video and I cant seem to get some of the balancing done. I see the technique and understand how it should work. AFter the warmup I did 16 10x50 and 1 10x100 to see where I stood. I didnt time it, no waterproof watch and cant read the clock from the pool.

I am trying to make sure I keep my elbows high, try to extend fully but I have a hard time w/ my and entering the water about a foot in front of my head. I am tall so I dont know if that is what the problem is. Does anyone have any good recommendations or drills to improve my kicking, elbows and what not? I am more comfortable with breathing but I just havent got the rolling over perfected. I am not sure on how to slow myself down and pace myself to swim farther. I am having a really tough time.

ten thousand yard workouts will really help improve your swim.  you've come a long way!  keep up the good work!

XXXXX a GAZILLION!!!!  Kyla, you are going to rock this race!!!

For Linda (VELCROMOM), we will be following you and rooting for you, too!!!!

Not racing this weekend, but I guess I must be thinking about my 7min T1 and 6minT2 from my HIM in March, because I had this dream last night which I wrote Kyla about:

Last night I had a dream that I was in Transition for 30 minutes, what up with that!? Forgot my bottles, had to go back, left the bike out via the run out, had to go back, saw friends who passed me their baby and then I'm holding her, and wondering how to pass her back through a glass doorway...while balancing my bike on my hip! crazy, huh?   I woke up feeling extremely frustrated, and never did make it out to the bike mount area!

So, here is a little reflection, because I wasn't doing all of that craziness at Oceanside, however I did lack focus for T1,  which we should all try to think of as "free time".   Here's what I am going to rehearse over and over in my head as I get closer to my July race.  Stand up and start moving forward!  Unzip wetsuit, remove goggles(Rob) and cap and keep moving!  Strip wetsuit at bike rack, place in bag.  Dump cap and goggles in bag and cinch it!  T1 and T2 are in different locations.  Socks on. Shoes on.  Headband on.  Helmet on, sunglasses on.  Spray on sunscreen.  Run with bike to mount area.  Go!!!!!

Anyone see anything missing?

I suggest keeping cap and goggles on until you have the top half of your wetsuit OFF. Otherwise they can get stuck in your sleeves or I guess your armholes (if sleeveless). While you are running you should be stripping your wetsuit down as far as you can, and when you get to your bike shimmy it down your legs and then step on it side to side to get it off (think 4-year-old girl removing tights). If it's stuck on your ankles sit down quickly if you must, but while you are down put on your bike shoes. As part of your pre-race transition checklist, make sure your shoes are OPEN and your bike is in an EASY gear. That's what I would add to the T1 strategy...!

And I will say that practice makes perfect. My first season doing tris we would set up T1 (minus the bike) outside of the lake and after every OWS we'd go through T1 as fast as possible, even if we weren't biking (we usually weren't). We'd just bring along our helmets/shoes/shades/towel, etc. to execute it all quickly.

Pretty bike Trina!  I am jealous!  I would love a new bike, but it will have to wait - I keep sticking a little away each week in the "new bike fund"....

What?  10000 yards?  That is 5.68 miles!! INSANE!! Hat's off to ya!  I don't think I have ever swam over 2.4!

It is funny you say that.  This is exactly what I do, and I do it for that reason.  That way I don't have to carry them at all.  They stay in my sleeve.

When I made that mistake (once!) I couldn't get my wetsuit off of my arms!!!

OK, so moral of the story is: Find what works best for you!!!
