Don't remember the run drink probably thinking about a beer by then. do you remember the drop rule at lone star? i don't. at buffalo springs it was safe to toss a bottle if you were in sight of a feed zone. at iron star it was marked and a whole lot smaller. maybe a couple hundred feet before and after. the refs made this very clear at both. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() most importantly.....Where's your AVATAR??? I'm not sure what happen. I fixed it at home but got on my work computer and it wasn't there so I deleted the old one thinking the new one would pop up but no such luck. I'll try and add it back on tonight. AFTER my workouts. The computer isn't allowed to be touched till those are done or else I could loose two hours before I know it. John- don't remember the rule but I think there is a drop zone at the feed stations and they are decent sizes. Just remember the volunteers are just that and have to walk down as far as you throw them and LS uses A LOT of kids for volunteers from various organizations. End result...GO TO YOUR MEETING!!!

![]() tri-chic - 2010-03-09 1:08 PM I have used Infinit for the last three years on the bike. Love the stuff. No problems up to the half distance however for my IM about half way through the bike I tried a Uncrustable PBJ just because I knew I needed SOMETHING solid for the long day and I wanted to spread it out. I didn't like it but I ate it anyway. LOVED them in training. Just one of those things that race day throws at you. Have a plan ABC. Like you, I didn't run with my own mix for the run and alternated the water stations and took Water at one and Gatorade at another with Gu every once in a while and endurolytes every 45 min or so (pending heat factor), no food on the run for anything up to a half however on the IM your tired of gu so I did a lot of oranges. Tried the pretzels and that sucked. Chicken soup is suppose to be awesome but I didn't care for it and the generic deflated coke didn't work for me either but I think it's a individual thing and if I was out there again I would try it again. You never know what will work on a given race day. IMPORTANT: Just know if you ever think about starting the coke during a race you need to plan on keeping it up. You and I are twins. That is exactly what my IM was like last year - nutrition wise. Only difference....I had a banana laffy taffy in my special needs bike and run bag. |

What type? John- you just have an aero bottle and 1 bottle on the frame? Thats it? w/ four hand-ups, that's more than enough. Thats my plan. Aerobottle up front, bottle on frame. Aerobottle will be infinit, bottle on frame will be water, will have infinit mix in bento box to make up some on the road, i.e. dump it in the aerobottle and grab a fresh bottle of water from the course. At least that's what I have in my head now. I don't have room for anything else. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kkcbelle - 2010-03-09 12:15 PM Thanks Suzy and Tony. Tony -- usually a smoothie is my go-to post-workout meal, so perhaps I'm on to something there. I think yesterday I didn't want one because it was pretty cold outside and it did not sound good! In fact, I almost turned my chocolate milk into hot chocolate! For longer runs (i.e. marathon training), did you find that when you took in MORE calories when you were running that you didn't feel as ick tummy-wise after? I have been using a little bit of protein in my Infinit mixture for awhile, and my coach suggested bumping it up a bit. I tried some yesterday -- one bottle of the old and one bottle of the new (I think the difference is only 2-3g of protein over 20 oz.). No real comments, hard to know anything from one ride/run. I didn't feel too bad after the long runs, I just took a Gu every 45 minutes + water. I tried to use infinit running, but once I hit a certain distance just couldn't carry enough on me to work. Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm intrigued, Linda! What's a banana laffy taffy? I'm so behind with the MG, it's crazy. I am trying to stay off the computer on the weekends and at home, but when I have downtime at work, voila! Doug, are you doing the foam roller? It (and my trigger point kit) has helped so much that even after my 16 miles on Saturday, I went to work and stood all day, no problems. Before I started doing that, I was complaining to Suzy that I was achy and sore and practically in tears after long runs or speed/tempo work. Kyla, I am so with you on the not wanting to eat much after these longer efforts. I usually need at least an hour or two before I can even think about food. However, after my 4 hour bike/40 min brick run yesterday, I ended up eating half of a pizza, a gigantic salad and half a pint of ice cream! YUMMY! Okay, all of you guys having done, or are training for IM's, I am in awe. I am just barely making it with this HIM training....really I am super tired and mentally fried at this point. Keeping my head in it for just a little longer, because I really do enjoy the racing. Less than three weeks, the countdown is on! ![]() And Kelly, great job getting that swim done! Today is my rest day and I am milking it! |

None of these drop zone things will be a problem for me since I CANNOT pedal and grab something at the same time. I would crash. I am lucky to drink and pedal at the same time. And since holding off til 2/3rds of the way through my bike to drink in my last HIM did not work so well, I plan on a few quick stops. I figure even if I lose 3-4 min. in starts/stops/rest on the bike, I will more than make up for it in improved performance. Executing a solid nutrition plan is my #2 goal for the race. And we all know what my #1 goal is! ;-) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm gone a few days and I miss so much. Suzy - Love the bike and the hair. How do you like the swim paddles? Birdy- beautiful videos, both of them. John - you beat my record. I thought I was hard core doing 59 degrees. So are you still speaking like a choir boy or have they dropped yet? Kyla - TRIATHLETE!!!!! Jeff - so sorry about the crash. Tony - great job on the bike. Chet - way to BQ!!! Janet - Way to go on the first Oly. My 2 greatest accomplishements are my first 5K and my first oly. Something about completing both of those made me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to. Kelly - I hear you girl. I am always having that battle of feeing guilty of taking the time away from being a mom when I am out training, but then feeling like crap when I can't train. I look at like the same way as when I decided to work full time. I am a better mom when I work b/c it fullfills a need. All you can do is what is best for you. So, was there anything else I was suppose to respond to? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Advice needed: My HRM is about to bite the dust. I have a Polar F6 which has served me well for almost 2 years. I promised myself I would not spend the bucks on a Garmin until after I finished a full year of tri's, so that will likely be a b-day/christmas present request later this year. What should I get in the mean time. Anyone have any favorites or suggestions as to decent HRMs that work well for you? Thanks. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thought I would pop in and say hello. I have been A.W.O.L for some time but hope to move my workouts now back to BT. Thanks for all the well wishes on the marathon thing, still hobbling but with a smile on my face. Suzy - Lowell was great, thank you for the advice. It was what I needed to get over that hump. The bike looks sweet and smokin fast! Glad to hear you are running again too. John - I had a nice nonfiltered Amber after the race. Ahhhhh, good. Kim - Boston '11! Tracy - B2B was so long ago! Linda - Look out for those last 3 miles on the 21st, they are a doosy! Steve - I have been lurking here and there, I just got too far behind to pop in! Missed everyone, hope to catch up soon. Hello to everyone I haven't met yet, you all seem to be doing well and pounding out the miles! Chet |

Glen, I really like my Garmin 305...it was actually a very good investment. Have had it now since Dec. 2007 and it has held up well. I think it can be purchased right now for about $155 on amazon. If you are going to get one anyway, it might be better not to spend the extra money on something else during the interim...then it's just a waste. And if anyone is frugal, it is me! btw, I still have my polar F6 from 2006 and use it when I do treadmill workouts or on the bike trainer just for HR info. just sayin. kim |

Thanks for these awesome comments, you fabulous strong women, you!! Yeah -- when I was HIM training I was fine with Infinit but on longer rides I often brought along a pb/honey or pb/nutella sando, and it really hit the spot. I didn't have the guts to bring one on my HIM but I did nosh a Clif bar about 1/2 way through the ride. Did it make you nervous trying different things during your IM? I mean, we hear so much about "Never try anything on race day that you haven't in training!" but it sounds like for you it really helped. Why not start Coke unless you stick with it? Thanks again for comments! |

I do not want to take out one of the 12 year old soccer girls who are out there volunteering! LOL - my problem would not be getting the bottle at the hand off - it's the after part. I could grab a bottle then stare at longingly trying to figure out how to get the bottle open and to my mouth. It's very sad during some races being thirsty and seeing the water. And yes, I have practiced but I am just not comfortable yet reaching down to get a bottle. That is the original reason that I got aerobars so I could drink. It has taken me a year to actually use the aerobars and I still pick and choose when I use them. |
