Lmao, so I totally missed everything yesterday.  I got home and was exhausted so I went up at 7pm to take a nap and slept till 6am today.  So yeah, I guess I'll just have to work it hard today.

Go hard in A, B, and C races.

For "A" races, your plan is designed to have you peak for that race; you will do a proper taper for the race and afford yourself any recovery afterwards that's necessary. It depends on the distances of the races, etc., but you'll usually want any 'A' races to be at least 7-8 weeks apart, moreso if you're racing longer distances.

For "B" races, you don't plan to peak, but you might give yourself a mini taper for it, or have it at the end of a "down" week, etc.

For "C" races, you just stick to your plan and throw a race in there without skipping a beat -- even if it means you did a long ride the day before, or have to go and run a few miles afterwards to stay on top of your training plan.

At least that's how I see it. Kind of the same as you guys. In any case, you can always race hard, it's just your hardest effort on a "C" race day won't be as fast as your hardest effort on an "A" race day.

Hey guys,
Still no baby, but I had to keep my phone next to my spin bike this morning because I think it'll be any day now.

GARMIN still didn't pick-up satellites even with the updated software. I sent it back, gotta wait 3 days for it to arrive and another week to get it back. Ugh!

Read a good article by Mark Allen on the triathlete magazine website where he talks about strengthening your weaknesses. It had a lot of great pointers.

http://www.triathletemag.com/Departments/Training/2007/Fixing_your_...

Check it out if you get a chance.

Should we start a pool?  Closest to the actual time wins.

I vote for tomorrow at 4:46pm.

Hope you all are having a good day. My stress levels are peaked. Between work, getting ready for this school in a couple of weeks, and everything else life throws at you... my only relief is to train! So I think I'll throw on my new kicks and give them a nice little test run. Later!

Hey Guys,

I don't know if I mentioned this, but I got some of the stubby-fins (tyr crossblade) and some paddles for my swimming. I'm pretty pumped to use my stuff tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think about them. I always think fins are cheating, but my kick is pretty weak so I guess fins are supposed to help you strengthen your kick??? I don't need the paddles since I already use my arms almost exclusively.

Thoughts on short fins and paddles?

I use them and really like them.

Most will say to not overuse paddles.  They can be bad for your shoulders if you have suspect form.  I never had a problem though.

As for fins, I don't use them except for kick sets.  I go nowhere with my kick, so if I want to be done anytime before the next day, I need to use them.  I don't worry too much since you don't use the kick too much in the long distance swims (other than for balance and rotation)

I did it! I just ordered my 305! Road Runner had the same price as REI, and shipping was actually a doller cheaper... can't pass it up! I am SO excited to get out California and try it out on some foreign grounds.

Congrats.  It's a fun toy/tool for sure.  So many features and so much info.  Decent software too.  It also works with google earth so you can map EXACTLY where you ran and see it.....  Particularily cool when you do some off road stuff....

I turned mine on when I was on a cruise and was able to see how fast the boat was going and download the route.....

Hey guys... did my first bike route with my Garmin.  It is really cool to see your heart rate, your cadence and everything.  Very happy that I got it.

Now BT needs to have a section to put in your cadence.

Just a couple quick posts.....

First, I'm SO glad I took the bike out tonight for a little "tune up" ride!  Believe it or not, the left crank arm almost fell off!!!!  It just started hanging there while the other one spun.

Needless to say, a little spooky and I had to do a "one legged drill" all the way back home!  Thanks goodness it was down hill.

So I tightened everything up and it's good to go.  The wheels seem OK to ride on too.

Bought a new aero bottle for it today.  I have wanted one for a while.  The straw is too short though, so I need to fix that.....

I just add it to my notes if I need to remember it.  But a special section wouldn't bother me....

SCARY!!!!  I'm so glad I rode my bike on my trainer today, my chain completely broke!!  thank goodness I wasn't outside on the road when it happened.  I guess we are both lucky!

OK, after 18  months, I'm going to post a picture of my bike.  I'm a little sheepish about it, since I kind of think it's a P.O.S bike, but it gets me from A to B.....  But I trust you guys not to tease me!  (maybe not so much other people on BT...)

The reason I have some pride is all the work I put into it.  Basically, the ONLY original items are the frame, brakes, and fork.  EVERYTHING else is something I personally upgraded to change to work for me.

I started with a cheapo bike from bikes direct because I needed a bike and wasn't sure if I would stay in this sport.

New items (from back to front)

  • Rear bottle cages
  • tool pouch
  • seat post
  • saddle
  • cranks
  • bottom bracket
  • pedels
  • bento box
  • stem
  • base bar
  • aero bars
  • shifters
  • brake levers
  • shifter and brake cables
  • bar tape
  • aero bottle
  • wheels
  • I gave it a new camo paint job and added the yellow dragon decals....  (I LOVE camo and yellow is my race color, camo yellow bar tape and yellow sidewalls on the tires - can't see it since they are dirty)

I think that's about it.  So I have become attached for all the work I put into it.  I think I need a new one though.   It will be hard to see it go.....
