Gang - Thanks for all the congra's.

Back to training.  Only running the last 3 days.  Nice change of pace to run in cold weather.  Enjoy your weekend.

Hey Team - Whats going on with everyone?

I'm back up north for a long weekend of R&R.  Unfortunately, once again I underestimated how much snow Northern Michigan gets.  I brought plenty of "running outside" clothing and there is no place to run.  (Unless, I want to play chicken with the cars on the road).  Yesterday I went to town and picked up a pair of shorts with the plan that I could run on the treadmill at the local YMCA.  Of course, I never got there.  Walking 2 hounds in knee deep snow has to count for some type of workout, right?

Hopefully I'll get out today.

Guess I'll answer my own post.  I found a hospital campus and ran a 2 mile loop 4 times.  Some snowy roads but no traffic.  Should have put my Yak Trax on, but I didn't.

So here is what I did over the weekend... Beer Mile!

It takes a real man to wear what I'm wearing... or a drunk one.

Wow Stephen, just wow...
Janet, glad you're out and about...
AND I MISSED THE INITIAL BABY PICKS!! Congrats Grandpa! That is awesome!!

So, I was away for most of the weekend for the Austin 1/2 Marathon. Not my best, not my worst, but Stephen said it was about right for my legs to feel totally tight the whole time since it was a train through race.  Craziness.  So, here is to a week where HOPEFULLY I can get in ALL my workouts!

Does anyone have a recomendation for a watch I can use in the pool?  I'm not too concerned about my lap times (I have bigger fish to fry) but it might be nice just to have a time piece on my wrist so I can keep track of my time in the pool better.  I am very nearsighted and the clock on the wall is pretty hard for me to see.

Which brings up another question:  I generally wear contacts  for running and biking but never in the pool.  I'm not sure what I would do for a real triathlon.  Wear my contacts in the water?, get prescription goggles?  Plan on wearing eyeglasses for the run and bike?  Does anyone have similar issues?

I use a regular Timex digital watch. I have NO clock in my pool so I have to wear a watch if I want to at least get a running workout swim time.

I wear prescription goggles... I'm lucky in that my eyes are nearly the same prescription so I can buy one pair of goggles instead of 2 and changing out the one lens.  I just picked up some cheap ones from SwimOutlet.com.  I got 2 pairs with shipping for about $20!!  These allow me to see the clock on the wall rather than wear a watch, although then I have to remember my times, I won't have them on the watch to refer back to.  I have worn my goggle in the run from the swim to T1, but my eyesight really isn't that bad that I HAVE to, especially if I've done my homework and scoped out the swim exit and the entry to the transition and where my bike is.  There was a thread not too long ago and it seems a lot of folks wear their contacts under their goggles without any problems, so you could try that too...

I have the garmin 310xt and have the setting on "other" when I am in the pool and I have the clock big on my watch so I can see it since they leave it kinda dark in there.

310 is pretty big to be swimming with?

I say tell your pool to man up a little bit of money and put a big wall clock on one end of the pool. Unless you're blind you should be able to see your pools wall clock.

I would love it if the pool had a nice big digital clock. they just have the one with arms. I just note the time I got in the pool and the time I leave. I keep track of how much time I have left per the plan but that's it.

I should just get a timex too.

Nice race! considering how crazy your schedule has been! Good way to kick off the new year's racing season.

Anyone else racing soon? I think Hilde has a half marathon coming up ...

Yep, I have me my very first half marathon on the 27th, the Cowtown in Ft. Worth.  I'm still debating whether or not to sign up for a Sprint Tri on March 27th... my bike needs LOTS of work, but it would be nice to have that goal and have it as kind of a base line for the season.  I was planning on doing the Women's Trek Tri on May 16th, but the last time I pulled up the website, they had changed the Austin date to Oct 3rd???  My A race will probably be the Waco Tri... last year I did the Sprint (and won my AG!) and Britt did the the OLY, this year I want to do the OLY.  That's in July, so I guess I better get myself a plan pretty soon!

Is it a big wall clock? You should be setting your intervals to the clock and doing your workouts like that

For example I swim my 200s on 3:00 intervals, meaning I come in under 3:00(2:40 is normal) and push off for the next one on 3:00. This is a easy and best way in my opinion to do swim workouts.
