TriAya - 2010-11-04 11:21 PM You people are high-larious. Yes, Melissa, pears in a can.

Half a worm. Heh.

So Phil are you on the spreadsheet yet? I just woke up.

I love pears in a can! I think this is the only real food that I prefer processed. I like the texture of the stringy membranes and the soft flesh. Fresh pears are too hard.

I prefer pears in my stomach. And I won't eat pears when they are hard. I let them sit around until they are fully ripe and sufficiently soft.

I love my wife. I think pears are pretty dang tasty but she doesn't. And yet she still buys a case of pears every year and we bottle them. I prefer the home done pears. We can control the sugar. I think they taste better with less sugar and light syrup compared to what is in the store. Plus none of that chemical that they coat the cans with that they have found causes cancer.

recipe please

Peal and cut pears in half. We put them in some water with a little salt or citric acid so they don't go brown while they wait. then we fill the bottle and add 1/4 cup of sugar and fill with water. Put in canning pot and bring to boil. Let boil for 20 minutes and they're done.

Thanks!

Long run planned for today, but I was just reminded that I shouldn't wash my hair until tomorrow because I dyed it yesterday. Run might get postponed... but we'll see how the day plays out. I could switch tuesday's run with today's and do my long run then... 4km I won't sweat as much as 10km and I could just rinse my hair with cool water.

I dyed my hair for the first time in about 7 years! I used to dye it monthly or more. I stopped because I wanted to donate it, then I just never dyed it again after.

Emmanem - 2010-11-06 8:46 PM Just got in from my first run with Nike+.  Calibrated it but it was only about .1 mile off which isn't bad.  So now if I did everything right my next run should be accurate.  My run this morning could almost count towards the crappy winter weather challenge...37 degrees out!!

Dang. Great job. Now I'm really glad I'm not doing Beach to Battleship--no way I could deal with that kind of cold.

I dunno, though, the waiting and the first few miles of the Reno marathon were hovering right above freezing, and I didn't die.

-12 runs
-5 lbs weight loss
-10 Coke free days
-1 completed scarf

Ohhhh..a knitting goal!  That's a good idea.  I just finished up a pair of socks but have three projects other projects that are in various stages of incompleteness.  Maybe I should aim to finish at least one knit item BEFORE I get distracted and start some other new project.

Speaking of distractions - my husband wants some knitted socks and I found a pattern book for kids toys that would be perfect for the cat, but it's crochet. Yesterday I started teaching myself crochet and attempted to start a toy... but need more work. I either have too much tension and it doesn't work or it's so loose that there are little holes... I found a pattern for Adam's socks finally (several hours later, needed to go online to get a pattern for size 13 mens), now I need to learn the 4 double ended needle technique. Oh, and finish that scarf for points.

I refuse to knit socks for The Dude.  That's just too many knits and purls to make a sock big enough to fit his big feet.  He says it means I don't love him enough.  I almost feel sorry for him.  Undecided

The pattern that I am going to try requires using two yarn balls at once - so it's done twice as fast!

Are you knitting both socks at the same time?

I hate to break it to ya, but it still takes just as long.  You merely avoid second sock syndrome - you know - where you knit the first sock, immediately cast on for the second sock, get bored, move on to something else, and then are left with a sock orphan and a partially knit mate.

It does take just as long.  And you have to worry about using the wrong yarn for the wrong sock.  IMO, it's just not worth it.

QueenZipp - 2010-11-05 12:10 PM Hey there, Crushers...got a good strength set in today.

I am sooooo  looking forward to riding tomorrow  Cool  (even if it will be chilly out there!)

How far are you riding tomorrow?

I am allowed 45 minutes and it has to be SLOW and FLAT.  Probably doing an easy ride near the middle school a couple streets over.

You are welcome to join me if you want......Not sure what time I'm getting the ride in though.

Maybe.  I think I'm going to try to run today though.

It's 44 here this morning, so it'd probably be a bit warmer for Beach to Battleship.

10km run complete! Foot was okay until run was over and I felt it a little bit - but I don't think it's anything to worry about. The blisters however are back with a vengence.

Managed 45 minutes on the bike!!  I have determined there is an alomst imperceptible line between fatigue in the leg and where pain starts.  It's really hard to tell so I definitely call it quits at fatigue and let it rest.

Plus it's supposed to warm up next week.

Yep, according to weather.com, next weekend will be around 50F in the AM, with a high around 72F.

That's not bad, especially for November!

Got in some push ups and sit ups late last night while DVR watching Modern Family. Also got in a 9.5 mile run this morning so moving along towards my goals nicely. Weight is down 4 lbs though I doubt that is real and expect a more accurate reading tomorrow. Just hoping down 1 or 2 for real which would be a good start this month.
