Any tips on getting Look Keos off my road bike? I have Shimano 105s on my tri bike and so not a fan so want to swap. My husband could only get one off the road bike. We pulled up instructions off net but it's almost like it's stuck. Advice?

Remember both pedals loosen towards the rear wheel (does that make sense)?

Yep.  It's weird.  Or it's stuck and you have to take it to the LBS, which sucks.

ETA: I meant to quote the pedal post.  BTW what don't you like about the Shimanos vs. Looks.

Larkin, I'm so sorry to hear of your friends loss. So awful, especially so close to term.

Kristen, Nice job on the ride!

Chris, I agree with Kelly - you'll want the wetsuit at Pumpkinman. Last year was pretty chilly.

Re, Tats - I think I'd like one for IM, however hubby is not a fan of them and has given me a 'you need to break 14 hours to get one'. Looks like I might not be getting one for a while lol

I did a local TT tonight. The first one I have done with them since '11. I am SUCH a donkey on the bike these days, so I'm hoping it'll help me find some speed.

The morning brings hill repeats at 5 am.

Hills this morning. I apologize in advance to you mothers, but hill work has got to be like childbirth. I forget how painful it is, wish it were over when I am in the middle of it, feel good when its done, and sometimes when I am going all out, I can't go any faster, my heart rate is maxed out, my control over bodily functions begin to falter (sorry but we are all athletes here).

ETA: I meant to quote the pedal post.  BTW what don't you like about the Shimanos vs. Looks.

I used the Looks for 2 years and never had problems clipping in and out.  I took my triathlon bike out this past Sunday.  Conditions were awful and I shouldn't have attempted it, but I did (heavy winds, improper attire, frozen feet, etc.).  Anyway, I could barely get my shoes clipped in and out of these Shimano 105s.  WTH?!  The tension is crazy.  I practically fell over at 3 lights.  I looked like a total fool.

Kelly suggested swapping out cleats so I did a little hunting online.  There really aren't other cleats that go with these pedals.  It's just the yellow ones.  Can I adjust tension on the actual pedal?  I am not a professor of all things bike related so these things are difficult for me to figure out

I guess I just figured that I have enough on my plate with the bump up to IM distance......the difficulty of clipping into these new pedals should be the last thing I'm worrying about right now.  If there's something I'm overlooking, I want to know.

Any other thoughts?  Thanks!

Also, Kelly sent me the tentative age group wave starts for IMMT.  Looks like my wave is second to last.  Kelly goes off in the wave 5 minutes before me.  Both of us will catch a couple waves before us while in the water.  Should make for an interesting swim.

Lots of traffic, but lots of little mini drafts you can use.

Headed to packet pickup in a couple hours.  Then I have a ride and a run to get in.  Hopefully the weather holds up today.

Jen, the only thing I can think of is to check whether the cleats and the pedals for the Shimanos are clean, not worn, and have a little bit of lube on them to make engaging easier.  If that doesn't work, then definitely switch them out for something you have confidence in.  As you said, even if they ended up working perfectly on race day, you don't want to have to wonder/worry about it.

The Columbia Triathlon is Sunday, so I'm tapering this week.  I did a short run yesterday and some core work and felt great.  Then did a 1200 m swim this morning and feel wiped out.  Not sure why, and I'm sort of puzzled by it.  I'm going to do light workouts or nothing for the rest of the week and hope things work out ok...

Welcome to a rest / taper week.  Its totally normal to feel sluggish / slow / wiped out.  Your body is fixing all the micro tears in your muscles that you've accumulated over the past few weeks.  I find the most effective thing to do during a rest week is to reduce the overall volume but not the intensity.  So you end up doing short work outs but add in a little bit of race pace efforts in the workouts to keep things sharp and then almost complete rest before the race.

Scott - am excited and also a bit nervous for you. Will try to follow.

Matt - good luck as well. I went to Centennial high and have swum in Centennial Lake a bunch. You have worked hard. Knock em dead.

Larkin - I seem to think that you are doing the Columbia tri too right? x2 what I said above. Hope you are feeling better.

Anyone else racing this weekend?

It is what it is.  Everyone in out AGs (and all women) will have to deal with it.  You'll have the same race as every other F35-39.  I know we have goal times in our heads, but final time is something we really can't control.  All we can do is have a good attitude, put out the effort we need to put out and let the chips fall where they may.

Looking forward to tracking you TX Scott.

Interesting morning for me.  Have to get used to the new morning routine of 4 huskies instead of just two.  My brother in law just shipped out last night so we've got his two huskies for the next year.  Still got in 1500m at the pool this morning though.

I agree with everything you said about the swim, Kel. I will set a PR no matter what time I finish since this is my first IM . It's all good. It will be interesting, but I like thinking of the "mini-drafts" that Scott pointed out.

90 minutes on the trainer this morning and I'll run an hour at lunch.

Scott just relax and enjoy. Trust in your training. You've put in the work so there's no need to stress. I'll be following and cheering you on. Kick @SS!
