Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Woke up at 3am with helicopters hovering around my house. Alarm (from clock) went off at 5:30 for my run (no need as I was still awake trying to ignore the choppers)...and helicopters still around. I called the cops to see what was going on and got this answer "Domestic disturbance...cannot say anything more...stay in your home". NIIIIIIIICE! Apparently there were 3-4 cop cars also patrolling our (gated) community. No more info, but what kind of "domestic disturbance" requires 3-4 patrol cars and a helicopter roaming around for 3 hrs? if I find the perp I will personally beat him up to a pulp...how dare you interrupt my training! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by lisac957 I just heard that our new CEO is telling employees to remove family photos from their work areas. This makes me sad. Sends a clear message about work/life balance that does not sit well with me. He also requires everyone in his meetings to wear suits/ties. Apparently he kicked someone out of a meeting today becuase their area had jeans Friday and the guy was in jeans. You guys have any strict old-school rules like this?
Sounds like he is trying to show somebody (Board?) that he is the man in charge...the family pics is not only stupid, but might have a huge impact on morale. I understand limits on what you can put on your desk, you don't want to give the impression of a party going on, but family pics? That would worry me. Regarding dress code, I have no problem with that. however, kicking someone out of a meeting for following his department/area dress code is also short-sighted and stupid. Let it go, announce that it will not be tolerated in the future, and talk to the department managers. ironic thing is that by trying to show everyone there is a new "Sheriff" in town, he's probably loosing respect in a lot of people's minds. Guessing the water cooler talk is about his controlling behavior, not about good things he might be doing (anything?). Rule by fear and control is never a good long term solution. Was the company in good shape? production levels down? Why is there a new CEO? |

Guessing the water cooler talk is about his controlling behavior, not about good things he might be doing (anything?). Rule by fear and control is never a good long term solution. Was the company in good shape? production levels down? Why is there a new CEO? We talked about this in our staff meeting this morning. Our new guess is that he's doing all of it on purpose - to intentionally be the polarizing opposite of our former CEO, who was super laid back and personable. Showing that things are GOING to change, etc. We also think in his mind, looking sharp and performing sharp are one in the same. That kind of thing. I get it, but we are going to recommend he do *something* to engage with employees soon, even if it's a short video message. Just to show he's actually human. Our former CEO retired. He was humble, personable and engaging - but admittedly too lax. He said in a media interview last week that the company needed a fresh set of eyes. Our performance definitely has suffered in the past ~5 years. Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, but for now I am keeping my head down. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We didn't have it at the CEO level, but at the plant/general manager position. He was brought in to change things, but he ended up going out the door before others. We found out later that he was really brought in after our GM quit to close the plant down, and was to run out the managers with seniority, so we couldn't get the benefits from the plant closing and going to Mexico. I hope it works out for you and your company. I don't like the pictures part of it, but as long as it isn't a double standard, it wouldn't really bother me. |

I know that it was something that was asked of me on one of my job interviews that I didn't have any hobbies information on my resume when I sent it in. This was six years ago or more and I asked why they wanted to see that on a resume. The HR person said that was normal for 90% of their resumes of people they brought in to hire. I still don't put it on a resume as it doesn't seem normal to me, but I am old also. |

I was in automotive manufacturing for 25+ years and all the training the was shoved down our throats, would make resumes too large. Let alone, swimming, biking, running, mountain biking, street motorcycles, dirt bike motorcycles, performing music and recording music, art, etc..... I would think it would be something that HR would probably pass up in their normal process for automotive, except he has so many years of automotive experience. BTW - In the other post, it was not automotive that I sent my resume to. It was for I.T. within a corporate office for a meat production facility. Maybe that was the norm in their industry, but not from automotive where I came from.

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've seen that on a lot of resumes, and have even included it on my own from time to time. It's a personality thing... i.e. will this person fit into the group we're hiring them into?
Morning TAN!
Ran the hilliest 13.1, ever, yesterday, and came within a couple of minutes of even setting a PR. My buttocks hurt, but not in a prison way, so that's good. The finisher medal dwarfs any other medal that I've ever seen and has the words "Hill, Yeah!" plasma cut into it (the thing is made from like 1/4" plate steel).
I'm sleepy and want to nap.. coffee is not working today. |

How does it compare to a Rock N Roll medal? Those things are ridonk-a-donk! |

I understand the need to match personalities, but that's why you do panel interviews, meal interviews, cross-functional, etc. How does knowing he plays softball help me know ANYTHING about his personality? |

I dunno... probably the same way that seeing he has some useless generic degree might him show himself as being "qualified" to do stuff. It's a little insight into who they are, which is all anything on paper can give. I doubt that it is meant to replace any of the above, but it can be used to augment. You can ask them about it, which will get them to open up (or expose them as lying their butts off to 'fluff' the resume).
No idea really -- that's why I'm just a geek that doesn't hire people :-)

I understand the need to match personalities, but that's why you do panel interviews, meal interviews, cross-functional, etc. How does knowing he plays softball help me know ANYTHING about his personality? Maybe he is trying to convey that he is and can be a team player. Outside of placing that type of stuff on a cover letter, a resume is about the next best place. The Drag Racing one would be a red flag possibly though and that depends on what it is you are interviewing for...Heck being a team player may be a red flag as well..What are you interviewing him for? As a side note, I don't agree with putting hobbies on a resume unless the person is trying to take up space cause there is nothing else to talk about. Edited by mjh1975 2013-06-17 2:34 PM |
