dalessit - 2009-08-03 8:03 AM Suzy,

I think Lowell is trying to kill me.  I just looked at my run calendar this week.

Mon: Off
Tue: 14 Mile long run
Wed: off
Thr: 6 mile easy run
Fri: 5 mile Easy run
Sat: off
Sun: 15 mile long run

My legs forced me to send him an e-mail asking if that schedule was correct...

"I think we got ourselves a runner"

damn, he sent an e-mail back, yep thats 40 miles for this week...

LOL!  I know the feeling of a plan being a stretch  - my 8 wk oly plan is pushing me too!

This is where you have to start evaluating whether you are a triathlete or a marathoner.  He is developing a plan to make you a great runner and give you the strength to motor through MCM.  I was lucky that when I started tris I already had a good running base, but my biking always played second fiddle to running.  As a result, I remained a mediocre biker and a decent runner.  Are you ready to make the switch through November?  If not, he will back off, but the marathon will probably suffer a bit.

Also key is more stretching and maybe a massage a couple times a month.

Can someone tell me the best way to get road rash to heal?  I have been stuck in this stage for a while and it still hurts and looks awful.  I've tried antiobotic ointment, covering it, leaving it open and nothing seems to be working.  I'm swimming OW this afternoon......any special things to consider?

Suzy,

I was told to make sure I kept it heavily sunscreened.  Other than that, not much you can do do but wait.

Mine is still kind of red and I crashed almost a year ago.

Suzy.  x2 what Tony says.  It actually looks pretty good to me. How long has it been since the wreck?

Sounds like you had quite the weekend there Trevor - a nice run and a new perspective on tri's.  Though can you really call it volunteering if you got paid in 'eye candy'?

John - Dude, way to go on the IM.  If you need a sherpa to lug your equipment around so you don't wear yourself out before the race, just say the word

I did my pretest for the situp challenge last night - busted out 80 quality situps.  It seems like the 35* angle they suggest is a little low and I think I'm conditioned to going further.

Suzy - let's stick to the dress pictures, though that doesn't really look too bad.

Let's hear it for 4-day work weeks!!!!

Not that gross, Suzy!  I vote for Hibiclens to clean, and if it's not infected, instead of using an antibiotic ointment, use Carrasyn gel.  It is a wound dressing that helps the skin to heal up without scarring.  Don't use Polysporin or Neosporin.  It will scar and be super ugly.  After it scabs, there is this great stuff called "Mederma" that I have been using on all of my old scars and it is actually making them disappear.  Try not to get it wet too much.  I don't know how much of it you can cover while swimming but if it is chlorinated water it should be okay.
Oh, just noticed the part about OWS, make sure whatever you do, Hibiclens after you swim and let it air dry.  NO Sun on that wound, cover it up while running or biking.  Or large bandage?

Kim I am going to try out that Mederma to see if it helps any.  hehe I have a pic of my road rash in my album.  Is it bad the first thing I thought of after I made sure my bike was ok was that I needed to hurry home and take a pic to show the group?

Leave it to the doctor to have all the answers!!  Sadly, I have put nothing but neosporin on it since it happened.  I am off to Walgreens with the list of stuff you gave me before I hit the disgusting local lake this afternoon.

I cannot tell you I thrilled I was to only have to do 1,300 yards in the pool today.  Things felt 10x's better knowing the swim was short.  Swimming 2,600+ yards really doesn't rank high on my fun meter.  I am heading to the OW tonight because my old swimming teacher was chastising me for being out of it for two weeks. How long do you all go between OW visits?   There are about 20mph winds today so I am guessing I will get the crap kicked out of me.  Figure if I can survive that, the Oly this weekend will be a breeze.

I am going to have a couple posts in a row here b/c I've got a lot to say with photos.

Suzy get some Tegaderm.  It is found in the band-aide section made by 3M.  It looks like saran wrap but it works great. It is designed for burns but my hubby used it on his bad road rash and barely has any scars now.  It keeps the wound moist but provides an non-stick waterproof covering.  Great stuff.  It was recommended by our pro bike buddy. He uses it all the time for his road rashes.  (see photo)

John, in reference to the cancer patients.  I ran the Susan G Komen 5K for breast cancer a few months ago. They did a survivers parade at the end and one of the most moving parts was to see how many women were in the 0-5 year group that still had a full head of hair.  We have come so far with fighting cancer.  My mom is a cancer surviver and my dad sadly lost his battle.  I was there with my mom during her treatments and it is a true demonstration of courage.

John number 2 - what happened to Roth?  Am I being challenged here? Kiss Congratulations!

Trevor - great job!!

Barry get better.

This is a photo of the cake from my husband's birthday party. One of the little girls that was there went up to her dad and said, "daddy did you see the cake?  It is Lance Armstrong's jersey."  I really like that girl!

Andy,  I think that is fantastic about your daughter wanting to race.  My oldest did a kids tri last summer and I was so proud of her.  Plus now I get a chance to brag.   She runs better than I do.   Both of her feet are off the ground!

IMPRESSIVE!  She looks like she knows what is going on.  I think you need to break down and get her a tri bike though.  Those knobbies might be slowing her down a bit.

Thanks for the "feel better" .  I think I am turning the corner.  Got a little swim and run in yesterday, and a 27 ride in this morning, so hopefully with the exception of a stuffy head, I am good to go.

Those are great pics - I am looking forward to my daughter's, but it will probably be next spring or so, as she still has some work to do on swimming and biking.  I hope that it introduces her to exercises that she enjoys!

Oh yeah - I didn't think you were old enough to have a kid that age.  From your pics, I thought you were in your very early twenties!

Aren't you sweet!  Those photos are obviously from FAR AWAY!  I'll be turning 34 in October.  Not as old as my old man hubby........but I still have an impressive cassette tape collection and can do a mean electric slide!

Another weekend came and went, but what a weekend it was.  This past week has been really tough on me (and I don't want sympathy, but its brutal).  Our temps in Seattle have been record setting (both day and night) and it taxes us. No AC in the house means that when it's 97 outside at 8:30 at night, it 104 in our bedroom.  It just sucks, and so have the workouts, but enough of that.  We purchased an ac unit, and we move on!

Friday I spent 10 hours on the Lake drinking beer and watching the Blue Angels fly over head!

Saturday we (Ryan, Kim, and another buddy) biked up to Sunrise on Mt. Rainer.  What an awesome day.  This is my favorite ride.  The reward after 18 miles of climbing hills (14.5 miles in one shot) and 5800 feet of climbing leaving you on this beautiful mountain... So worth it.  The one downfall is all the flies that latch onto you for 10 + miles- You get to know them all, and give them each a name.  However, my wife said that she named all of her flies F**KERS!  They were really annoying, but no issues!

Awesome pics Steve.  Looks like a great time.  I know that area pretty well.  My aunt and uncle live in Kennewick and have a house on Lake Chelan.  Beautiful area.  The pictures make me even more jealous.
