Hmmmm...I may have to fly to Lonestar. I'm not looking forward to the 10 hr drive....especially if my bike flies for free.

Achieved a 5K run PB today! Yay! (43:03- slow but getting better

SSMinnow - 2010-03-16 2:02 PM Hey Twin....a 2 hour hike is NOT a rest day. I wish I had an MP3 file of John....he sounds young and twangy.  You could always call his cell phone, listen to his greeting to see for yourself....he never answers the phone...at least when I am calling!

Had another 1 hour plus drill myself to death in the pool in the name of HIM/IM survival.  I do not see how people can do this day after day as part of a swim team.  Give me running anyday.  Not to mention, I have big goggle eyes, wrinkled fingers and pool nose.  Very attractive.

What is pool nose?????

I agree with Kim and Dino....GO BUCKY (although really disappointed they were out of the Big Ten tournament so early)

Pool nose=when I am in the pool for something approaching a lifetime I must snort up a ton of water (again very attractive), so I spend the rest of the day sniffing and my voice is borderline hoarse (and not in a sexy throaty way).

Just had a great call with Bob Seebohar to take me through my MET efficiency test.....I will keep you posted with any relevant outcomes!  Off to the store to buy some different food for my diet....apparently Cheetos and Captain Crunch Peanut Butter cereal is not on the list! Damn.  All in the name of better training.

So I went out for an easy 30 minute run at lunch. Felt kind of blah, but figured I should. Bike class tonight, so was going to take it easy. Ran under 6 min/Kms(10min/miles) for 4miles. For me, a really good pace. Not race pace, but faster than I have been running lately. Funny how that happens.....

And whats this basketball touney you are all talking about?

I was going to answer your b-ball question but I hate being more gullible than I already am, so I'm going on the assumption you were using the sarcastic font. You have heard of the college NCAA national championship tournament right?

Seriously, great job on the run.  Those are the best days.

Caution horn tooting to come and it has nothing to do with performance.  The USAT holds a team challenge every off season...its all about accumulated mileage and you compete with your tri team.  I came in 8th overall even with barely any running! I  certainly hope this translates into some level of performance.  I wonder if I would get a gold star if Steve knew ?

I keep secretly hoping my kids don't become swimmers (so far they just love to play but have shown no interest in a team) -- being a swim parent is HARD WORK. I remember my schedule in jr. high/high school was weights MWF morning (5:15am), swim T/TH morning (5:15am), swim M-F afternoon (4:30-7pm), swim Sat morning (7-9am) unless we had meets. I remember I'd get up at 4:47 every morning. So crazy. And my father, bless his heart, drove me to all of those workouts until I turned 16. Many times he'd run on the track behind the pool while I swam. That, or go home and get ready for work before he came back to get me.

It's a wonder I had as crazy of a social life as I did -- and that I did so many things I will absolutely kill my children if they do the same. Where did I find the energy and the time??!!

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I don't snarfle up water when I swim but still get a runny nose all afternoon long.

I am so impatient, my bike still hasnt came in. I just really want to take it out for a ride. I am guessing I will disappear for a couple hours the first night. On top of that I got a new job, foot is healing and life is good. Grats on the races, I miss training. I just cant afford another fx. Next week i am set to ease back in to it all.

Today, I am going to TOOT My HORN!!!!

I am under 2 weeks from my HM and I logged my first ever sub 8min/mi one hour run.  7.7 miles in one hour=7:49/mi.

It was on a treadmill, but I'm still counting it!  My AVG HR was 176.  I wanted to get a faster than race pace run on a flat surface.  In East Tennessee, the treddie is my only option for a "flat" run.

I'm feeling GREAT about running this way so close to the race.

I hope everyone is having a great week.

Suzy!  Those are some awesome numbers for your offseason. GREAT JOB!

Nice work Suzy.

Thanks for the suggestions with barefoot.  I have been doing some of the prework (doing other barefoot activities etc)  I will start toning back my runs at first and not do the 3 mile run again for a while.  Mostly looking to get some long term fixes for sore knees but want to make sure I am going the right way.

Had a good bike workout tonight and plan to adjust my workouts for bike/runs since I will be doing no pool activities and just hope I do not loose too much whle away.

Hey everyone.  Just wanted to pop back in while I had a sec and say hi.  With the warm weather, things get crazy in the world of golf.  I've been training and logging my workouts, but that's about it.  Hopefully things will settle down again next week.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Happy training.  Stay healthy!

This is all based on off season training.  The leader of our tri team collected daily workouts and submitted them to the USAT for the contest.  Not exactly sure how they calculate the miles because different months focused on different sports S, B or R.   I did reasonably well on the S&B and really stunk it up on the run due to injury.  Next year!

trevor that's good stuff man.  i ran off the bike tonight in the rain.  that little 1.25 mile run was probably the best run i've had in a month.  never would have thought that about a transition run... well that or it just shows how crappy my running has been lately.  ha!

good job sarge!  looking forward to hearing your about your race plan.

When you think you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on.  (Theodore Rosevelt...iirc)

Saw someone with a sign that said this my first marathon at around mile 19, thats the only though I had the rest of the race.

On a strategical level, just make sure to start at something you can sustain, it is better to burn your matches at the end of the ride and end with nothing than at the start and not be able to push through.

so are you running barefoot or are you running in your vff's?   kinda confused after your earlier post  " The catch... I did it barefoot in my Vibrams."  and the one above.

I had the most amazing steak dinner tonite.
Sauteed fresh shitake mushrooms with shallots and low sodium soy...over a seared ribeye steak served over rice and baby bok choy!  Suzy, would dr. seebohar be okay with that????

I have a 2000 HIM pace swim tomorrow, hope this nutrition helps!!!  Do you guys think a skinny cow would help or hinder?

I'm gonna have one anyways.

AF_SGT - 2010-03-16 6:03 PM Today, I am going to TOOT My HORN!!!!

Well, For the first 7.5 miles, the course is very hilly.  There are several long hills and some smaller rolling hills as well.  Then at mile 7ish, there is a monster hill, that is about .4 mi, and pretty steep.  There are going to be a LOT of people walking that hill.  After that hill, it flattens out from miles 8-11, and then there are a couple rollers in the last 2 miles.  We finish at the 50 yard line of Neyland Stadium, and get to see our smiling mugs on the JUMBOTRON.

My plan is to start off a little slower between an 8:15-8:30 pace until I top the hill at mile 7.  Then I'm hoping to start picking up the pace by 15-20sec/mile until the finish.  My goal time is 1:47:59, but I'm hoping adrenaline will push me to 1:45:ish.  I'm hoping to keep my AVGHR around 176-180

Nutrition wise, I will be taking a powergel (strawberry banana) every 30 minutes throughout the race.  This was what I did on Saturday during my LSR, and it worked great.  So, let me know what you think....

I really appreciate everyones support, you guys are AWESOME!!!

Running my first full marathon. Strategy is not to go out too hard and burn out. Survival is the name of the day. I used this race to work on my running through the off-season. I have learned a LOT! One major leason: I am not really a marathon runner. Having said that I will give it my all. I have jury duty on monday. Can you say uncomftable sitting there all day after running 26.2 miles the day before?
