Anyone reading The Lost Symbol yet?? (Page 2)

I liked it as much as DaVinci Code, but not as much as Angels and Demons which is still my favorite. Here’s what bugged me the for entire book, though: From the beginning, Langdon is incredibly skeptical about the existence of the pyramid, about the “word”, and pretty much about anything related to the secrets of Masons that isn’t metaphoric or allegorical. He keeps saying “there’s no such thing!” and “it’s a myth!” over and over again, chapter after chapter. Now, mind you, this a guy who has uncovered conclusive proof that Jesus has a living heir and has discovered the resting place of the Holy Grail. Not to mention that he has helped to foil a plot to destroy the center of the Catholic Church using anti-matter. You’d think he’d be a little more open-minded, wouldn’t you? |

| Subject: RE: Anyone reading The Lost Symbol yet?? Bump just to say THIS BOOK SUCKED. I actually posted in the thread last Sept. when I bought it, but just read it. It wa OK, but the ending BLOWS. The rest of the book was just OK, typical Dan Brown Langdon and some chick running around a city looking for "clues", just like every other DB book. Am I supposed to believe that people actually have conversations like that?? I really think he was trying too hard here. Looking for and explaining symbolism everywehere. And the last 10-20 pages???? I have never skimmed over the ending of a book so fast. blah blah blah. "Hope." sheesh And yes, Langdon came off as a skeptic, when he's been a believer in every other book On another note. Finished King's Under The Dome. It's not The Stand, but it was pretty good and I looked forward to reading it every night (still not sure whether I think the "twist" there was a copout or not.....) |

I'm with you Chris. I read it when it first came out. I've read all Brown's books many times. Except this one. I read it once, put it down and I'd be hard pressed to say where it is right now. But when I get some time I might pick up Deception Point again... |

He's got one other decent book other than the Robert Langdon series. Pick up Digital Fortress, it's a pretty good read, it reads like a screenplay but that's how Brown writes. |

Expert 1557 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Anyone reading The Lost Symbol yet?? I am kind of backwards...I had never read Dan Brown or seen the two movies. I decided to check out Deception Point as I heard his style was similar to Crichton (and I love Crichton). And I ended up loving DP to the point I couldn't put it down and finished it in a few days (which is crazy fast for me). I am now reading A&D and haven't been as impressed so far but it has been entertaining. Still haven't seen the movies so the whole Hanks thing hasn't effected me. I do have DC and will read that next, then probably check out the movies. |
