I thikn you're right except for a couple of things - I think the starting pitching is a draw too. Both teams seem to be really inconsistant. Wells vs. Wang - Wang has been good (better era than Wells), Wells you don't know what you're getting these days. Wakefield vs. Randy. Wakefield always scares me but Johnson has finally been pitching like Johnson and this game is why they got him. Schilling vs. Moose - both have been getting knocked around an awful lot lately. Both teams are hot right now but I see the Yanks taking 2/3. Still, I'm nervous...
I see what you are saying about the starting pitching - but (I know I'm typing this AFTER the game ) going into the game, I would give Wells the edge (albeit small ) because he's been in that position before. Many times. And he's almost unbeatable at Fenway. 15-1 since '99 I think. Wakefield/Johnson should be interesting but I'd give the edge to Johnson. Wakefield has been on fire recently, though, and is perfectly capable of matching Johnson pitch for pitch. It'll probably come down to the bullpen and the Sox have inexperience with Papalbon, who has been amazing, but he is still a rookie.
Gotta give Schill the edge tomorrow. I know non-Sox fans are sick of the bloody sock story, but that was truly amazing. Mussina just isn't the same guy under any circumstance.
I hate the Hokies. Maybe that same sink hole that swallows the sox and yanks will get them too.
Go Cuse!!! (yeah, I know, but old habits die hard. It's gonna take me a while to be able to cheer for BC and they are from my home city! ) |
