There are some really long downhill stretches with wide open road (closed course on 4 lane highway) to really drop the hammer. You should be able to create enough speed to carry yourself strongly through the inclines.

While there are uphills too...I do not think they warrant a road bike. They are not extremely steep but long...just like the downhills.

I am a bit biased but this is the best bike course I have seen. It is a cyclists' course. It's incredible.

oooh, I just checked out the bike course - after seeing that it's on 465, I REALLY want to do this. My husband and I drove that hwy on the way to silver dollar city just a couple months ago, and were commenting on how perfect it would be for cycling. Of course, we like pushing ourselves on hills... and it looks very challenging, but also very rewarding! That really exciting news.

I can't do it this coming year due to IMOO, but this is definitely a race I'd like to do in 2011.

I'm signed up for this without having a clue about any of it (the Kansas/Branson deal was just too good to pass up) but now I'm starting to get really excited about this bike course. Pretty much my only problem with my first 70.3 that I did (Austin) was that it sometimes got really tight trying to pass people and deal with traffic since there were so many people on the course and my wave started at the back. It doesn't look like that will be a problem here!

I checked out the swim and ride portions of this event the day after Christmas.  The ride looks like it will be a real challenge, at least for me, with little time to rest between climbs.  I drove the entire course and it has some challenging hills, to say the least.  The swim doesn't look bad at all unless it is a windy day and then it could be a slight challenge as well and the run should be fairly flat since it is near Branson Landing and stays close to Taneycomo.  I was focusing on the run for training but I will definitely focus more on the ride now, especially after seeing the course in person.

Good luck to everyone!

Depending on what type of wheels you have on your tri bike, you may want to use your road wheels.  I plan on bringing both my tri (50mm wheel set) and my road wheels and will detrmine which to use once I see the course.

Does anyone know if there will be shuttle services pre and post race?  Also, does anyone know if the we will be setting up both transition areas or will we just put our running gear in bags to be delivered to us in T2?

This appears to be a fun course and I can't wait!!!

The hubs and I are signing up for this one and I already know it'll be a kick in the pants! It will be my second and his first HIM. (Yes, I have a cruel side!) I'm just trying to fathom how to train for this since we live in Minot, ND which is about as flat as it gets!

Anyone know if there will be shuttles from the finish back to the start? Otherwise I'll have to enlist the help of my mother-in-law! <shudder>

I'm sure they'll have shuttles available. I would check the site for more information as the race gets closer. In the past races I've done that were point to point have provided shuttles.

Just got back from Big Cedar Lodge for vacation between Christmas and New Years.  I drove the bike course and rode the Hwy 465 portion of the course.  Lots of hills as discussed but this course looks like a lot of fun.

I video taped a 14 minute overview of the run course and a 28 minute overview of the bike course.  I was planning to post them on YouTube but didn't realize that there is a 10 minute limit.  If anyone has any suggestions on where I can get these out there I think they would be pretty helpful.

The run course looks really cool too: A start through the Branson landing shopping area, a loop through downtown with some rollers and then a flat out and back along Lake Taneycomo.

Someone asked how to prepare for the course in ND with no hills.  My answer to that is spend 3 days a week on your trainer doing interval work through the winter.

Ironman Branson Bike Course Preview (1 of 7, 2 of 7, etc.)

IKENTRI, those transitions over the bridges look a little rough. significant bump/connector between the bridge road?

Thanks for the vids, ton of help!

You're welcome to all of those that offered thanks.  Regarding the bridge joints: I rode the HWY 465 portion on my bike and never flt like I needed to slow down for the bridge joints or felt like they were too rough.  Hope that helps.
