Following the swim, athletes will cover a challenging 56-mile bike course through the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains

Think it will be a hilly bike course?

The race is definitly in good hands with Ryan R and Tom Z RDing (same RDs as IM KS 70.3). Those guys know what they're doing and they do it well!

I heard Tony Orlando, Jim Stafford and the Osmonds were going to take Mike Reilly's place for this event......
Swim starts and ends at "Moonshine Beach"....'nuff said!

But.....I am contemplating whether I can pull of a IMMoo then 70.3 Branson on back to back weekends.......

It's pretty hilly out there, but i did a HIM just north of little rock that was pretty hilly but lots of fast down hills.  No flats though!

Wow I'd do it if I didn't hate hills so much. Those short steep effers are going to make grown men weep.

I'm targeting clearwater at this event. The more hills the better! Helps us little guys :-)

Course maps are up!

One thing I noticed is that T1 and T2 are across town!  Hopefully no one forgets anything because you won't be able to "run" back to get it!   Also I'm thinking it will be a logistical nightmare for spectators!!!

Second thinking this one after seeing the new maps!

Does anyone know how many spots they will have for this race. I want to sign up but need to wait until after Christmas!

You can call up the participant list on the site and monitor the 'space left'

Eeh, it's just like any other two-transition race. Even if they are only a half mile apart, you can't "run back" to get anything. Kansas 70.3 and Austin 70.3 are both two-transition races I've done... you just put T1 and T2 stuff in two different places before the race and have plenty of time to set them up. Not a big deal at all.

As for spectators - I'm curious if they will provide shuttles or anything like that. They do at Kansas 70.3 and Branson will be run by the same people. I'd imagine they are thinking about this and will have a solution like shuttles.... I'd be shocked if they didn't.

I did IMKS the last 2 years.  Today I printed off the elevation charts for both courses and it really looks more mild than the KS course.

Now I'm rethinking.....

I actually just checked both races bc I plan on doing them both this year.  The Kansas course was around 1200ft climbing compared to the 2700 @ Branson.  Was I looking at the wrong KS course or is this accurate?  I have heard the bike course at Kansas is tough...

ahhh....don't worry about it...according to the elevation chart, we get to descend 200 more feet than we climb!! Cakewalk!

Kansas was tough the first year.  Last year they took the hardest part out so it really wasn't too bad.
However, I was just in Branson this past summer and I have driven the hills there.  It makes me nervous to say the least.

My plan for this year is the Flying Pig Marathon in May
IMKS in June
IM Branson in Sept

Of course that all sounds great now as I sit here in my warm house!!!

I specifically picked Branson hoping that would create a course that would break up packs and make it a clean race. 2700 feet should do that.....

I did the iron moutain man 1/2 distance triathlon last year in arkansas and the profile map had 4200ft of climbing and it wasn't that bad.  If you take it easy on the ups and hard on the downhills it is a pretty fast course.  So i'm thinking the same for branson.

Ok with all of the climbing for Branson,  would I be better off with my road bike than the tri bike?  It's better suited for climbing.

You will definately want your tri bike.

There are some really long downhill stretches with wide open road (closed course on 4 lane highway) to really drop the hammer. You should be able to create enough speed to carry yourself strongly through the inclines.

While there are uphills too...I do not think they warrant a road bike. They are not extremely steep but long...just like the downhills.

I am a bit biased but this is the best bike course I have seen. It is a cyclists' course. It's incredible.
