Thanks guys!  I was able to pick up a few of the one's you all suggested this morning.  Keep the suggestions coming!  I'm ready to crack open a bottle but I probably should wait just a bit longer!

I picked up Encyclopedia Riesling, Francis Ford Copolla Rosso (on sale too!), a montepulchiano d'abrruzo, and another riesling that the dude recommended.  I plan to head out again tomorrow for another run.  Gotta restock the wine rack!  I'm off to a good start...

Either a Prairie Fume', a Blushing Rose, or River Gold from one of our locals -

My farvoite wine is merlot. It's a medium body red and I'm not stuck on one particular brand or year. I live in Washington and I like Hogue, Columbia Crest and Chateau St. Michelle (These are some our larger wineries you might see in CT) and I like some of the stuff coming out of Australia.

I cracked open the Encyclopedia Riesling (yum!) last night and downed a glass before a friend of mine dragged me out for girls night out.  Ended up drinking tons of new wine and had a blast.  A great way to blow off steam from a crappy week!

x4 on the Melbac

another option is a Spanish Riojo, heck Cava is usually $10 a bottle but it is "Sparkling" to people don't think to drink it as a regular wine and think you have to celebrating.

As for another White option - try a middle price Reisling from either Germany (blue bottles) or from Oregon.

also : want to give a shout out to a client of mine : http://www.dripdickey.com/  - he makes and sells decorative wine collars.

The Nat - 2008-11-07 9:12 AM OOhh darn too slow...somebody already said Malbec....well anyways you have to try one! I really like Bogle wines. Try the Merlot or Cabernet - its readonably priced at 10 - 15 a bottle (that is actually the max I spend on wine) and its is very buttery, rich, but not to overpowering.

Oooo, a woman after my own palette.  Malbec is one of our all-time favorites, but can be surprisingly hard to find here in Portland.  We also drink ,any of the Bogle wines as our every day stuff since it is really, really good and not too expensive.  Bogle has a new blend out called Phantom that is faboulous!! You have to give it a go.
As for white, we drink Chards and the regular stuff but by far the best I have ever had is Meursault.  It's from a small region in France, near Bourdeaux I think.  Light, crisp, and buttery.  I've never had a bad bottle.

IMO, Yellow Tail (Australian) can't do anything wrong.  Their Merlot, Shiraz and Chardonney are great.  $10 - $13 bottle (1.5).  They (as with a lot of Australian wines) are 13.5% alcohol, so they can pack a little kick!

Oh man, forgot about these Merlots. Though Merlot is hard to get wrong. Still, I am a fan of any of the three listed above.

Also dig Yellow Tail.

Have fun! Glad you got to go blow off steam, too. Whee!
