Are you riding outside on a road bike or indoor on a stationary bike in a gym?

IMO 20+ is a good average, but it depends on the course.  If its flat then 25-27 is pretty good.  I've got a flat ride lined up and I think I'll be somewhere in that range over the 34 miles of that out and back.  You'll be fine in a sprint if your averages are correct.

smilford - 2009-08-04 3:26 PM Not a question someone who does 26mph would be asking.. Something is going on! Are you riding outside, or is this on a bike inside? Could it be km and not miles?

Based on Sunday's log entry:

26m 45s12.65 miles28.37 Mi/hr

If the distance was actually 12.65 Km (7.86 miles) the speed becomes 17.62 mph.  That seems realistic.

+1 If you're average speed over 45 miles is 25-27mph you should be looking into a cycling team.

Forget about it.  You are far from the first person to set up a bike computer wrong.  Just keep riding

If you're training outdoors, you might also try the following to double-check your bike computer:

1. Determine the distance of your route, either by driving it (check the odometer) or going online (gmaps pedometer, mapmyride, google maps, etc.).

2. Time yourself using a regular old stopwatch. Divide distance (in miles) by time (in hours) and you have your average speed (in mph) over the course of the ride.

Don't worry about it...it was fun reading all the shocked responses.  For a few hours there, you made us all feel extremely inadequate.

And I thought my 50 seconds / 100 meter swim pace was good....

I appreciate how everyone here in the BT community is so nice and took his speed seriously. I was ready to call "B.S." after the original post!

Good times!

Hey, look at it this way... we helped you fix the problem before you went to a group ride or something boasting you could do a 25 mph average.... and then get your b@tt dropped as they rode off into the distance laughing.

Trust me, way better to fix it now from a post on BT, than from a bunch of snobby cyclists dropping ya.

17 mph is a good average! It's a great place to start! Keep up the great work!

I still want you to keep your logs public.    That way, when you have training questions, it is helpful for those answering them to be able to look at your training.

Best of luck!!

So I will help out the OP and ask a dumb question. Was I reading the above response right in that Xeon is thinking he will be in the 25-27 mph range on a 34mi bike? Xeon do you mean that you will be in the 20mph range for the 34mi bike?
Figured if Daremo wasn't here to jump in and point things out maybe someone should.
