These incidents are why states need to pass 3-foot laws (mandatory 3-foot clearance to pass cyclist). Ya, some cars will still ignore laws but at least it will reinforce cyclists' traffic rights & increase awareness. Unfortunately that's the sort of law I mentioned earlier that is getting backlash. We have one that goes into effect next week and it seems that some drivers are more angry about it so they are taking out their frustrations on cyclists. |

Member 44 | Subject: RE: car+bike= end game I don't know where you are, but here in BC and maybe in all of Canada I am not sure you can buy insurance as long as you have a valid drivers licence and if anyone hits you while walking, biking, running extra, you are covered trough your vehicle insurance in my city it costs $25.00 for the whole year. Just a thought maybe you can get something like that. Oh maybe even call you vehicle insurance company a bike is considered a moving vehicle...isn't? Sorry about you accident and gear. |

Champion 7233 | Subject: RE: car+bike= end game thanks for the well wishes guys, from what i can tell everything is ok, road rash hurts like a bit**, but is cleaned out and not lookign too bad considering, hip is sore, but not too swollen. bike is actually ready to ride now. my g/f works are boulder cycle sports, and the head mech heard her talking to me on the phone and offered to take a look at the bike, so its in working order and ready to go. new helmet is here (found an extra between myself and my g/f), now just looking around for the clothing side. going to try and get out for a ride here in a bit actually. thanks again. |

I think the law should go much further and be simpler. It should not be legal for a car to pass a bike unless that car can get two wheels into another lane and it should be a federal law. Simple and perfectly enforceable. I rode in Boulder a couple days ago on the 5430 HIM course and it was the single worst cycling experience of my life. I was almost killed so many times I lost count. In all fairness, the weather was bad for both me and the motorists. But the motorists were the worst I've ever experienced on a ride in my life and that includes riding 200 miles per week in North Texas for many years. To the OP, I'm very glad that you're OK. |
