Subject: RE: Your favorite charityI'd suggest taking a look at www.guidestar.org where you can find financials on any registered 501 (c )3 in the US. It's good to know that you're giving to an organization that is fiscally responsible - not all of them are. It's really eye-opening to see how many of them spend exhorbitent amounts on overhead and salaries and not the actual cause.
Personally, I give to American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, my local Humane Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital and local nonprofits serving kids with disabilities.
Also the web site www.justgive.org lets you register for charities you'd like other people to give money to in your name. One of my friends and his (now ) wife registered 100% of their wedding registry on this site, they didn't want gifts. How cool is that?
