Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() the bear - 2013-01-02 1:47 PM No mitigating circumstances last season when the Saints got beat by Alex Smith and made him look like Steve Young in the process, or the previous year when they missed 14 tackles on a single run by Marshawn Lynch, each of which ended the season for them. Not saying you have to build around a defense but you do have to have some semblance. My Bears defense finished 3rd in the league in points allowed, 5th in yards allowed, and 2nd in turnovers. Whole lot a good that did. I'll take a good offense any day. |

But there were far more mitigating circumstances for the Saints this year. Look at New England: All their focus is on offense and a defense which can protect inside the 20 with interchangable generic parts. Except for Wolfork who counts for about 3 guys...pitt83 - 2013-01-02 1:14 PM Look no further than the Saints for an answer to your question: we do! It's great to have 6600 yards offense and average 29 points per game but if you give up 7000/28 your going to finish around/under .500.BrianRunsPhilly - 2013-01-02 12:11 PM Ya know; the more I think about it: Who really needs defense anymore? Draft speed on offense. That's what's winning games. You can't touch a reciever, you can't hit a reciever, no one runs the ball (except Minnesota). Why emphasize defense? Draft o-line, pick up wide reciever in free agency at their peak and draft and hold a QB. dmbfan4life20 - 2013-01-02 10:55 AM If Kelly goes to Philly, do they keep vick as qb? he would fit Kelly's system that he runs @ Oregon. Maybe my current disgust with the organization is clouding my view, but I am ready to take the hit for next season and clean house. All they are doing with Vick is delaying the inevitable, plus the odds are 100% that he will get hurt before half the season is done. However, if Kelly does come to Philly, Vick does fit his type of offense. Plus I don't see Geno Smith being worth a draft pick. I really want to see the Eagles build on defense. It's been pitiful since the loss of Jim Johnson. If you can hold them to 3 in the red zone, and you've got decent offense, trading 3 for 7 will win games. If you're trading 7 for 7, you're odds go way down. And you need to hold them on 4th-and-short. Eagles haven't been able to do either for almost 3 years now. So when the offense began to have issues, they got crushed. |

And, with more thought, New England plays Buffalo twice, Miami twice and the Jets twice. when a team spots you a butt fumble touchdown + 2 others, you really don't need much to win. Yes, and ESPN says Reid spent 9 hours there yesterday working on contract details. I'd rather see him at KC than AZ, if for no other reason than to keep him out of the Eagles division. He's still a very good coach. |

Romo gets to the pro bowl! Plus, who's your consensus number one pick this year? Anyone scream pick me except maybe Mantei Teo? And I still suspect soemthing's not right in AZ. No one will go near the place. Edited by pitt83 2013-01-03 1:42 PM |

Plus, in KC he'll get to hire his own GM and fans will give him a pass for a year or two while he builds his team. The Chicago job is the one that would suck. Bears fans (myself included) are going to demand immediate results. That defense is getting pretty long in the tooth, and any coach that can't win right away is going to get thrown under the bus. |

Once Payton retires in a year or two, the AFC West will be wide open. |

That's easily fixed in a year or two of drafting. The proof is in their improbable 4-0 start. They managed to beat NE at home without much of an offense. Reid is an offensive specialist. The only reason I wouldn't go, is how tough the division is. SF and my Seahawks look set for a decent length of time with their coaches/young QB's. The Rams are on the upswing under Fisher. This is going to be a tough division for quite some time. |
