I wouldn't have changed mine, but some silly photographers started whining about "copyright this" and "theft of intellectual property that" and something about their "earning a living"...

Not once in over 5 years . . .  Does that make me boring, or so solid and consistent that everyone looks up to me?

(don't answer that please . . .)

This is why I love BT.  Not content to simply tell a dude that updating the world about his avatar change/IM completion is a dumb thread, we cleverly mock him instead.  Good stuff!

~B

Wait...since when is telling other triathletes on a TRIATHLON board that you completed an IM a "dumb" thing? People do it all the time - every weekend during the summer, we have umpteen threads from newbies about completing their first triathlon. How is that any different?

I get that some people are joking here, but I also get the sense that there is still some mocking going on. Instead of telling the dude congrats. Not everyone here has completed an IM, several IMs or gone to Kona, so it just MIGHT be a big deal for some people here. Who knows, though, I could be wrong....

There's a whole section dedicated to telling people on the forum that you've completed your event.  It is called Race Reports.  That's all.

Hey, I'm happy for the guy and his accomplishment.  I'm also happy that we're poking fun at him a lot.

~B

FYI - I'm planning to change my avatar in the near future.

I have the same problem. I look and see a post that a walking bear or a shark or a bike, etc made, and when the avatar changes, it takes me a while to adjust. I changed mine and gopennstate asked me if I was the underwater picture avatar guy.

OK, I feel like I have to come clean here.  First, let me say that I have never, personally, changed my avatar.  However, back in college, I did once go to a party where people were changing their avatars.  In hindsight, I can see that I should have just left, that hanging out with avatar-changers is just not right.  However, you have to understand that in those days, everybody was changing their avatar, sometimes two or three times a day, and really nobody thought anything of it.  Anyway, I've learned a lot from this experience, and I hope that we can all move on now to look towards the future, rather than dwelling on the past.

The real questions are did you 1) inhale, 2) intentionally or accidentally mock an Ironman while this avatar changing was going on, or 3) cause over-reactive outrage in the easily offended while reporting the incident.?

Understand we won't condemn you for these actions, just trying to get the full picture.

It took me a while to figure out what the hell an avatar was but after reading thru the threads, I guess I better get a life and post one.
