Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As other's have said, the $550 race fee is just the start. For those considering a relatively long drive to register on-site, you'll probably be close to $500 for gas, meals, and a hotel, so the extra $500 (charitable contribution) may be a good deal. Yup, I have done that math in my head before. But with some of the races even the CF slots sell out so quick that if you want to be guaranteed you should just go be there. I mean, take FL...I still won't take the chance of doing it online...though, I'm only doing it because I live close and it will hardly cost me anything to drive down to sign up. ![]() |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The only thing holding me back from signing up for IM CDA (first IM for me) is the registration fee. We've got a baby on the way and soccer registration for three kids to pay for and its tough to afford a $550 registration fee. |

![]() | ![]() Im still debating but I need to figure out quickly!! I live in Dallas so the trip would be pretty costly for me, BUT thsi would be my first. Would you guys recommend this course for a 1st time IM?? Edited by ousooner45 2009-07-09 8:17 AM |

I live in Dallas so the trip would be pretty costly for me, BUT thsi would be my first. Would you guys recommend this course for a 1st time IM?? Depends. Expect water temps of 60-65. Air temps can be 50-90 (this year it was 50-60) and usually fairly dry. Bike course is not hugely "fast" as there are a significant number of small climbs and a couple sharp turns on downhills. Run course is pretty flat except for an overpass type hill (it isn't an overpass, but the profile is very similar). If you like camping out in an aero position, it probably isn't the course for you (Redman or Florida or Arizona would be better). If you climb hills like a billy goat, Silverman or Lake Placid would be better. If you like variety, it's a great course. If you've never been to this part of the country, it's a good excuse to get there. B.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l! |

Now Im starting to ask myself what I just got myself into???? haha Congratulations! You've gotten yourself into a year-long journey that concludes June 27, 2010* Expect to spend a month or two wondering what ever posessed you to sign up followed by about 6 months of steady workouts not too much different than what you're already doing (maybe not even so much). Then figure 3 months of amazing training volume, a week or two wondering whether you'll survive the training, and then 2 weeks of taper madness followed by a week of race-day preparations/excitement. During IM training, you can eat at will and people will still be asking how much weight have you lost. Psst...add some of the IMCdA peeps to your friends list and get to know them over the next year. Also, don't wait too long to plan your travel. We spent a couple days in Glacier (about 5 hours from CdA) before the race...not exactly a typical taper, but well worth the trip. Alternatively, hit Yellowstone before (about 7-8 hours) and Glacier after as Yellowstone can be more driving/walking and less "hiking" and the main road through Glacier wasn't open when we were there this year. |

Well your year forecast sounds pretty interesting and spot on! Ive been going through some of that through my HIM training, albeit not as intense. It should be a pretty exciting journey, although the "what did I get myself into" stage has already set in, haha. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would love to do this race again. It is sooo tempting with it still being open. And there are a whole bunch of peeps from my neck of the woods doing it next year. But I also want to stay married and if I signed up again, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen ![]() |

In my humble opinion. . .I think we have seen the last of sell out the same day Ironman events. There are more of them now than ever and people are being a little more cautious with their money (me not included). The flip side is it would be nice if they didn't sell out so fast. . give people time to think and plan for them, etc. .. . |
