Biker killed during Tri (Page 2)

I, too, rode right by not too long after it happened and saw the body covered with the white blanket.  I finished before they stopped the race, but am still sick to my stomach.  Prayers to the family of the victim.

Wow, a very sad story.  My heart and prayers go out to the family.

Glad to hear you got to finish and it was nice meeting you in person finally.  I had a hard time staying focused after passing by.  Don't think I got in my aerobars again after that just kind of putted along foggy.

Wow, that is a horrifying story.  I'm sad that this happened. 

Absolutely terrible that this happened. If this is second DUI in less than 2 months and the assault it really should help in court so that he gets what he deserves. Possibly some of you in the race could get in contact with the prosecutor who will be handling the case and see if you can be witnesses to the conditions of the road like it being blocked off etc, may help so that he gets the maximum.

Thoughts with his family.

I cried when I read this. 

That young man worked SO hard to be there.  He woke up excited with thoughts of victory.  He had no idea it would be his last day here on Earth.  None of us know when an ordinary day will turn into an extraordinary day due to unforseen circumstances.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and also with the racers and their families. 

Boy what a tragedy! Someone trying to do something positive to improve their health paid the price for someone who is determined to destroy his own life. My thoughts and prayers are with the triathlete's family.

I'm not one to get very emotional about things, but reading that story just makes me want to CRY.  The thought of how excited John Carr and his family must have been this morning going to the Tri, and then to have it end like this.  A BLASTED Drunk Driver, with NO business on the road ruins the day not only for the family, and the other participants, but also for all Runners and triathletes reading this story.  What a Sad, Sad story. . .

What a horrid tragedy.  I'm so saddened by this and send my thoughts out to his friends, family all those whose day was torn apart by such a senseless act of stupidity.

This is just horrible.  He had two little kids.  Think I'm going to go stare at mine sleeping and have a good cry.

Very scary but the saddness is tremendous when I think of the difficulty this presents the family and the children who simply don't understand.

I just read this in the paper this morning.  I have friends that were doing that race.  It turned my stomach when I read that when they stopped him the bike was still lodged in the windshield.  He was already up on charges from a DUI in June.  Sick, freaking sick.  I cried when I read it.  Awful.

Jeez, I was just sad until I read other people's comments at the end of the news article. Now I'm infuriated. The guy was hit by a two time drunk driver, who tried to grab the officers gun, and they're all talking about how bikes have no place on the road. Un-freakin'-believeable!! Sure makes me feel like a minority.

I'll say a special prayer for his family tonight. I can't imagine leaving my kids that way. Not exactly the example I'm trying to set.. Very tragic indeed.

Uuugh! My hometown newspaper does not allow reader comments on articles like this... for a reason! Terrible all the way around.

I read the comments. I'm trying to convince myself they were just making those statements to get a reaction. I really hope so.

I went through and reported a number of the comments as "hate speech" because well... they are. Wow.

I am embarassed to say that this is my local newspaper that allows those types of comments.  I never comment on articles myself, but actually went in and registered, and posted one of my own.  It infuriates me!  How in the world something so tragic could become a debate about cycling is beyond me.  Stoooooooopid people.

Those people also don't know what they're talking about. I'm old enough to remember when the laws went into place stating that bicycles were considered vehicles with the same rights and responsibilities as cars. And, no, that was not back in the old days when there was no traffic. I lived in the San Fernando Valley (L.A. area) and there was plenty of traffic then, it is only, maybe, moderately heavier now. If there had not been a drunk driver on the road, this wouldn't have happened.
