tuwood - 2012-11-06 7:30 AM Looks like the New Black Panthers are out again.  I'm guessing they're checking for ID's before people go into polling stations.  That's mighty nice of them.

Where?

Wow, what a misleading headline by Fox. "New Black Panthers show up at Philadelphia polling place with batons in hand. They are at the same polling station they were at in 2008"

Except the batons were in 2008. This year there is one alleged Black Panther just standing there. Video shows him opening the door for elderly women, black and white.

No, he should not be there. But talk about manufacturing a headline!

mrbbrad - 2012-11-06 9:45 AM Curses, foiled again! Since I am voting for the first time since registering in PA (this time around... I was registered in PA for many years before moving to NJ, and was registered in MD before that) I was required to show ID.

My son and I just got back from voting. The poll ladies were so excited that it was his first election. It was really cute. They even told the poll watcher to come over and say hello. The guy was on dad duty, had his baby in the sling as he did his shift. Philly really is a city of neighborhoods.

I was surprised at how empty it was at 10am. Word is that the polls were mobbed from the time they opened until a little after 9.

Funny, when I go to Foxnews.com the headline is simply "Black Panthers back at '08 polling site".  The article that is linked to the headline makes no mention of a BP member carrying a baton today.  The picture they show of 2012 shows a single BP member with empty hands clasped together.  It is next to the 2008 photo.  Batons in 2012?

So, you'd be OK with a KKK dude in uniform in front of a polling place, opening doors for little old ladies of all races, so long as he didn't have a weapon with him? KKK and NBP are the same thing.

I didn't see a headline today about them carrying batons.  I know they had them back in 2008 and it was a huge deal.

I don't think there's any place for people to be protesting that close to any polling station.  If I can't wear a Romney T-shirt outside the door of a polling place then why can somebody dress up in their black supremacist uniform and stand there? (baton or no baton)

Granted, I think they're just drumming up notoriety and nobody is going to be intimidated to not vote with them being there.

x2.

A: He is not wearing a uniform (he is wearing a beret, which is associated with the NBP).

B: He is certified as an official poll watcher so he not there as a member of the NBP.

C: Fox still is stirring the pot. Look at that headline, and they just added the fact that he is legally entitled to be there as a poll watcher.

D: From Philly’s good government Committee of 70: “Seventy dispatched volunteers to the Philadelphia polling place at 11th St. and Germantown Avenue this morning, where reports surfaced earlier today that the New Black Panthers were back in Philly and at this polling place. Neither Seventy’s volunteers, nor City officials who visited the polling precinct and checked in with Seventy, saw any signs of the New Black Panthers. We’ll keep you posted, but as of now, no hard evidence that this report is true.”

KKK and NBP are the same thing.

Wow, just wow.

I don't know a lot about the NBP.  I do know the original BP worked very hard to stamp out racism and bridge the gaps.  From what I've read/heard about the New BP party (who is not affiliated at all with the original BP) they're a whole different racket.

From the NBP wiki page: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Black_Panther_Party)

The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies the NBPP as a "black racist" hate group.[11] Even the mildest critics of the organization have said that the NBPP's provocative brand of black supremacy undermines other civil rights efforts. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a NBPP critic, has noted Muhammad's statement that "there are no good crackers, and if you find one, kill him before he changes."

So, i'm not going to say they're the same as the KKK historically because the KKK did a lot of horrible things.  But there's an argument to be said they share similarities with the KKK of today.

They're not? Both are hateful organizations that serve absolutely no purpose but to promote racism in this country. An official poll watcher wearing the NBP beret is the same as some klan member wearing his pointy hat while serving as a poll watcher.

Here's a picture from today: (no baton, still not cool)

They may have a "legal" right to be there, but I think the laws need to be changed.  They are wearing a uniform that includes rank insignias for a racist organization.

I'm sure they're just doing a peaceful protest, but if they're allowed to do this then what's to stop anti abortion people from camping outside of doors of polling stations?

No Black Panthers in sight. Just lots of people voting. One police car parked on the corner, and one non-Panther poll watcher out front.

Other than Fox, there is nothing on the websites for the local TV stations. I no longer know what to think.

I'm thinking of taking it a little further, and forcing them to admit it is not required. How? By responding "When did that become the law?".

But with where I live, I think they may not even bother to ask - it's a small town, and my polling precinct is even just a small part of that. We never have lines, even in hotly contested election cycles.

Just one experience - my wife voted earlier today (in PA) and she was asked for ID, but specifically told "you are not required to provide it."  I think it must be just to get folks used to the fact that it will be required in the next election.

At any rate, you are free to decline to present it, no one will make a fuss.

Scott

Philadelphia, south of New York and north of DC
Subject: RE: Pennsylvania voters

During the 2006 election I witnessed a Democrat worker
inside the poll in the Philly 21st ward where I was voting
telling people to push the big button for Democrats.

That was the election that Casey defeated Santorum.

I reported it to the Santorum campaign, but don't know what was done about it.

There was a report that a Republican poll watcher in Philly was forced out of the polling place
by Democrats, and there is now a county sheriff at the poll. Don't know the details or if it's true.

I was so disappointed, no photo op. Being a Philly native, I was hoping there would be a fight or something. Lord knows the Eagles rolled over last night without a fight.

They are both racist organizations. The big difference is the long history of violence committed by the KKK. The so-called NBP look intimidating but haven't actually committed violence.
