I will touch base with Eric regarding making a change to when the Athenas (and Clydesdales) go off. You are right, there aren't may of you (7 Athenas, 7 Clydes), but since we already announced the waves I'm somewhat hesitant to change it for fear one of the Clydes or Athenas doesn't hear of the change and then misses their wave start thinking its still at 7:30AM.

Regarding giveaways, as much as we'd like to wait until everyone finished that would mean we'd have to wait over 8 hours from the race start. Its a long day for everyone so we need to draw the line somewhere... finding where that line is is the challenge. If we pick 7 hours... the person that finishes in 7:10 is upset for missing out. Its kind of a no win situation.

^^^^This is how I've been feeling. I pay my entrance fee, train hard and be as prepared as I can be and participate doing the best I can on race day. Yet when I finish it will be an afterthought with most of the post race activities over.

Just because I'm slow shouldn't exclude me from winning a raffle since I'm not finished yet or being included in post race activities. I do the best I can given my abilities.

This echoes my sentiments EXACTLY .....there should be no penalization for being BOP . Everyone has different natural abilities. I would love to be FOP......but it ain't never gonna happen. And it is NOT because I do not work hard.

Yes its a long day..........especially for those who take longer to finish. 

I am going to pipe in here too.  Patriot will be my first HIM.  I HOPE to finish in 6.5 hours.  I volunteered at this race last year and my boys will be volunteering this year. It is a small race and it is going to get smaller if you just ignore all of us who are out there longer.  Seriously, do you think I will come back next year either to race or volunteer if when I get finished with MY FIRST HIM no one is at the finish line anymore???

TriToy, my wife is the Finish Line Coordinator and has been at the finish line with a staff of volunteers to see and cheer the last finisher each year we've held the Patriot. Please do not even suggest there won't be someone at the finish because that is not going to happen and has NEVER happened. The first year of the Patriot, Aegis awarded the final finisher a bike frame... last year there were volunteers standing and cheering as the final finisher came across the line while the DJ exuberantly annouced their achievement. No one is getting ignored... not the first finisher and certainly not the last.

The 2 issues of this thread are the start of the Athenas and Clydes and the giveaways. We aren't going to change the wave order to move up Athenas and Clydes at this point for the reason I stated above. We've already announced the order and my concern in changing it is not everyone hears of the change and then someone misses their start. The point about blending the Athenas and Clydes in eartlier waves is well taken and will be addressed at next year's race.

The awards will be given out at approximately 2:30PM which is 7 hours after the last wave. In last year's race, 20 people finished in over 7 hours (17 within 7:33) and many of them went out in the earlier waves so by 2:30 there should only be a few people left on the course. Giveaways are made possible by our sponsors and I owe it to them to maximize their exposure to racers which is why we can't wait until the last finisher (too many people will have left). Sponsors give us financial support and product support -- without it we would not be able to give the swag we give all racers, the post-race catered meal for all racers, on course aid station support, etc. Or the giveaways.

In fairness to the few people that come in after we give out the giveaways around 2:30, we will put aside a prize package that will be randomly given away to post-2:30 finishers.

Mark, thanks for listening to our concerns and working it out.

I recall, your family, kids and neighbors being at both Patriot and Cranberry whopping it up for everyone at the finish!

I'm excited and I'm only there to cheer and hopefully volunteer.  What about post race plans?? I know there is a picnic? immediately post race but after that any thoughts for a BT get together?

yes we are thinking of 99??? as they have beer and beer and beer and oh yeah food

We are planning to meet to swim Friday at 3pm if anyone is interested. My daughter is graduating from middle school so I need to leave by 4 to get back home.

Race morning for those of you that don't know us, how about trying to meet for a picture before the race meeting at 6:40. I'm not sure where to meet up. I know many of you but not all of you.

I look pretty much like my avatar with really short hair and I'll have on Bay State tri team top which is red, royal blue and white. Quite of few of us women know each other so look out for us.

Weather today would have been perfect for the race.....I don't really care but happy it won't be hot.

I am actually a bit worried about being cold on the bike -  for the run rain is fine and on the bike too as long as it is warm enough but it could be rather chilly at that point....

totally psyched/anxious........

Good luck everyone. We spent the day getting the race site ready. Transition is up... racks are in place... the finish line chute and corral built... and despite it being a breezy day at Cathedral Camp, Long Pond was very calm (no chop). Keep your fingers crossed the weather holds up. See you tomorrow or race day.
