Must be nice to train in cooler weather, at least until you have to race in the 90's!! Where are you staying in Lubbock. We are at some hotel near the Holiday Inn.
It has been too long! I'll see you there! It's been nice to run in cooler weather, but I can see that I'm going to have a rude awakening this weekend when I get home. And bike has been on the trainer, except for one sprint race in Oregon. ugh. But at least I'm maintaining some level of training. Not where it should be (training for IM Canada), but I'm doing something. We're staying at the Hampton Inn just up the road from the host hotel. |

I am staying at the host hotel and they do provide an airport shuttle but am not sure how far I am from anything else. Thanks so much! |

Member 254 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread Not a local, but you'll need a car. The race is about 10ish miles from the host hotel and town. Unless you plan on hitching a ride with someone. I do not recommend riding over to the race. |

Member 27 Boston | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread Any of you guys that have done this race , it seems as this race is usually very windy. What do people normally run for wheels? I am thinking of running a 808 FC front and back but am starting to read a lot about possible crosswinds? I don't mind head or tail wind, but crosswinds is what scares me. I am around 125 lbs so strong crosswinds definitely move me somewhat at ease. Any feedback is appreciated. |

51 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread I did the race last year and I grew up in Lubbock - expect at least 20 mph wind out of the south, meaning a crosswind for a good 15-20 miles of the course. I'm 165 lbs and I'm planning to run 808's front and rear (with a 70mm stem, so the steering is touchy anyways). |

New user 4 Lubbock | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread Just got back from riding parts of the course today. Winds were around 27 mph with gusts near 40, flying dust, smoke in the air from NM wildfires, temps in the 80s (but it was 102 on Sunday), and one 4 foot, slightly agitated, rattlesnake crossing the road (this was inside the park about 200 meters after the second hill). I love this place! |

New user 4 Lubbock | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread Fairly good road conditions for here, anyway (chip seal). I have not ridden on CR 6840 (the northern section that goes east-west) and that is a rough road, but CR 400 & FM 3523 (50th street) have been in good shape lately. |

Veteran 361 Colorful Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread I just did Kansas. I didn't mind the wind, but the heat wiped me out. And Buffalo Springs will likely be hotter. Right now, I'm trying desperately to boost my heat tolerance in a hurry. Yesterday, I was the only one on the running trail wearing a heavy sweatshirt at noon on a 95 degree day. |

Member 254 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread Amen, sister. Not sure if that post was from the same guy who posted on ST about "worrying about the women." Worry about your own darn race. If a woman is signed up for Buffalo Springs 70.3, known far and wide as a tough race, then she's in for the consequences. If not, sign up for Danskin. I will get passed on the swim, but I'm not scared. And if the men think that intentionally hitting or dunking a woman (or any other slower swimmer) is "part of the game" they are so very wrong, on a moral basis, and will be called out for it. Either that, or the men who fuss about having to work their way through the women...like women never have to pass slower men. ugh. This really pushes a button with me. |

It it not just about this swim, its about keeping the bike course safe too. You dont need to turn this into something its not. |

I hate when they put the women last because I have to pass all the slow men! :D I'm also a firm believer in the fact that the Race Directors have been running this race for a long time. Pretty sure they know exactly how to stack the waves to avoid course congestion. |

Member 254 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake : Official Thread So, the only way to have a safe course is for women to always be behind the men? So, the women who beat some of the men out of the water should just hang out in transition, so we don't bog up the bike course for you? I promise, I'll ride to the right, except when passing. And if you are the one from ST, whose women friends are scared to be swum over....again...Danskin. They can even have noodles. Or better yet, they can just swim a little wide and stay off the buoy line where the fast scary men will be. I really don't get why, in a co-ed race, this is an issue for you. There will always be some faster women than men and faster men than women. I can certainly direct you to a RD who always puts the women at the end, youngest to oldest. Maybe those races are more to your liking. I'll just agree with jdicarlo. The RDs know what they are doing. Edited by bets12 2012-06-16 8:03 PM |

I'm gonna STINK, but just need to come in under 8.5 hours if I can. Sadly my worst time ever on this course was my first...7:02ish. I am gonna crush that for worst again! I know, I know...pathetic. TJ, not sure if you remember me, but we met once! It was an open water swim in Austin...really windy day? White caps on the lake? Kayakers paddling and getting nowhere? :D |
