No hating on LJ here, but in my humble opinion he just doesn't want it bad enough. Honestly, he is SOFT. Maybe he'll win one anyway but I don't see the Heat beating just about anyone that represents the West.

Pulling for the Thunder.

No hating and you call him SOFT?  A guy that carried a team in Cleveland that their next best player wa Mo Williams all the way to the finals and the best record in the NBA a couple of times?  The only year that he was favored to win and didnt was last, but for the non "haters" is a sign that he is soft and doesnt want it.  I guess MJ won his first championship rigth out of college and didnt take 7 seasons to do it.

Soft? The guy is more like a cyborg - He plays full throttle when he's on the court and for as much effort as he puts out, he's practically ever too hurt to play. I don't know that Miami is necessarily going to win the title but the list of teams from the west that might beat them starts with San Antonio and ends with OKC. Everyone else is totally outgunned.

Went to the Hawks/Celtics game last night - This is not an NBA town AT ALL but there was as much energy at the end in the arena as I've seen at a Hawks game. Good thing, too, becasue there were a lot of green jerseys in the crowd..Hawks are just unpredictable enough to win the next two.

All I know about the NBA playoffs this year is that every time I hear the name "Metta World Peace" I snicker a little bit. I don't know how the announcers even say it without cracking up.

It's even better in person! I was at a game a few months ago when he missed a three and the guy next to me yelled "Effing World Peace! Make a damn shot!" ya I laughed.

Wow.... I don't even like the Celtics but imho they're getting jobbed tonight, pure and simple. The technicals, esp. the one on Rivers, and the no-call shot violation on the Heat, and the foul calling.

The NBA wants the big market team to go all the way.... of course, but don't force it to happen. Please somebody beat the crap out of the Heat. Chances are good if the Celtics can't do it then the Spurs or Thunder can. No offense to the Heat fans, I'm just tired of seeing the outcome decided before the game is played, figuratively and literally.

In case you missed it they took away the two point in the second half....and yeah, the Celtics lost because of the refs, their inability to make a shot didnt have anything to do with it.

Miami is a big market team and Boston isn't?  I get it, you dont like the Heat, but if you are going to put up an argument against them at least make a rational one.

Cuetoy... just venting a little. Just saw your location.... another "rational" argument ? No, I don't like the Heat... no big deal. And I NEED a rational argument to not like them ? Nope. It's sports, emotions are part of it. I don't like Boston much either. Yes they got jobbed but that's not why they lost.

Actually, Boston is probably as big or bigger than Miami, market-wise. What I should have said is the NBA protects its biggest stars... and there are other pro sports who do it too.

Lebron is soft but maybe he'll get so sick of hearing it that he'll be less soft. Yes, it's all in fun too.

Venting is allowed, and certainly no rational argument is needed not to like Miami, however to say that the outcome of a game is decided before it starts is irrational...

All leagues protect their biggest stars, that is nothing new and it has always been like that.  LBJ, Kevin Durant, Kobe will get calls that average players won't get.

Lebron soft?  Ummm ok you are entitle to emotional opinions Wink

While I don't think they are better, my opinion is it did give Lebron and Wade some extra room to work with on their drives, and maybe extra motivation.   The way Lebron is playing right now is incredible.  While the Heat isn't my favorite team,  I enjoy watching what LBJ has taken his game up a notch

It's sad since it's a strike year and people will make excuse's about the year he's been having, But if you took out his name and said that a player kept himself in shape during the strike part of the year, so when they did have a season he was ready. Then went out and put up great numbers to go along with solid defense, and a constistant effort every night. People would have respect for that, WHen you say it's Lebron, then they disagree.

Even saying all that I'm still pulling for the Spurs and Duncan to win this year though

 Wink

I have a boat load of NBA conspiracy theories,   But I'm not even buying that last night game had anything to favor the heat.    I wouldn't be surprise if the leauge said something to the refs about cutting down on players/coaches complaining and it just happend to be doc rivers and Ray Allen that got hit.   Those really weren't tech worthy calls in the reg season.  But I dont' think it was directed at the Celtics they were just the ones that got hit to set the tone of the game.

I will always think that the NBA will send it's worst crew as far as being intimidate by the home crowd when they want a home team to win a game, but that wasn't the case last night...  Crap... two post's defending the heat..  argh....

Spurs second unit won the game for them on Sunday - every player off the bench had a positive +/- VS every Thunder bench player with a negative. I was more or less figuring a Thunder/Heat final but Poppovich might be doing it again...

Ginobilli is just too much...the least 'star in the NBA' looking guy you can imagine and look at how he makes things happen.

I'm pretty neutral on officiating issue and the idea of the Celtics, of all teams, complaining about not getting calls, is kind of laughable.

But..

I think there was a mugging in Miami last night. I don't know that the game's outcome would be different, but the Celtics have every right to question the disproportion of fouls called.

One team is a jump shooting team, the other attacks the basket consistently....On most nigths there will be a disparity in FT attempts.

Rigth after the first game the popular sentiment from Boston players and coaches was that they had to be more agressive on defense, and make miami "hit the deck", so of course more fouls are going to be called with those tactics.

The jump shot/attack the basket explanation doesn't hold up for last night's game.

http://espn.go.com/nba/shotchart?gameId=320530014

BOTH teams took most of their shots outside the paint last night. The difference is a disproportionate number of calls made against the Celtics when the Heat did attack.

Again, not a Celtics fan.

A co-worker who's ref'd high school basketball for years and is generally kind of defensive about officiating, thought the calls were badly slanted against the visiting team. It happens sometimes and I don't believe in conspiracy theories but I'll repeat - Celtics got mugged.

The problem for that chart is that it accounts for missed and made shots.  When a player goes to the free throw line is not reflected in there.  So everytime you attack the basket, get fouled and go to the line you wont see a dot or an x.

Home team normally gets more calls, that is not something new and it hasnt been for quite a while.

Once again, i guess Miami won because of the refs.  They will be giving more calls to Boston the next two games so hopefully we can recruit the PA announcer to help us win, because without outside help Miami would have been eliminated

I saw only one indication of a foul call when it wasn't one. But I was discussing earlier with someone that these giants can pound into the paint and get no call, big guys bump and push all the time, but when someone goes up for a shot and barely touches someone's arm, they call a foul. Or when someone reaches-in they call a foul. Moving screens, no problem. Blowing up a stationary screen, no problem. Just seems like the NBA foul calls have been too subjective for too long.

That said, I'm glad they've gotten control of complaining to the refs. I hated watching the Pistons a few years ago because they were the worst at complaining to the refs.

I had to go back three pages of COJ to find the thread but it's worth resurrecting since we're down to the final two...

I think justice has been served in both conferences and the strongest teams on paper are the ones that will play for the championship - doesn't always work out that way...

In looking at the rosters, I think the winner will be decided away from LBJ/Durant. Both of these guys are going to have an impact but the winner will have more to do with Bosh or Ibabka or Miller or Perkins...IOW, how well did the supporting cast step up? Miami is star studded - OKC has a deeper team - the series looks like a head-on collision and this could wind up being a rivalry for years to come.

I'm looking forward to this series.  It will be a close one and i wouldnt be surprised if these teams meet again in the finals more than once in ithe next 3 years.

For Miami is simple, Wade and Lebron have to attack the basket and expose OKC defense which is not very good.  On the other hand, Miami is not very good at defending the 3, and OKC is a good jump shooting team.

I honestly prefer this match up for Miami than the one San Antonio would have presented, lets see what happens
