Hey,

Well, got my first ride this season on my tri bike today, let's hope that the winds on race day are not likethe winds today, blowing out of the south and the east, god that would be a brutal ride. Going for my first swim in 4 months tommorow....see how that goes.

I am up for a meet and greet Friday night....I think....new dad here so all plans are tenative.

I note that the website is updated somewhat in the last week. I am kinda concerned about their plan to bus 1700 racers and their bikes out to Ghost lake from Calgary, whatever, guess they have it figured out.

Anyone interested in riding the bike course on Saturday, July 18?   I've got a 3 hour ride for that day as part of my training plan and riding the course before the race seems like a good idea.

I have an SUV a couple of bikes can squeeze into  for either the first drive out to Ghost Lake or for the return trip to pick up the first vehicle.

The forecast looks great for that day! Any interest?

I e-mailed a campsite right on the lake to see what kind of info I could get and this was the response!

Average temp in this lake is 13 deg C.
(Lake gets emptied every 11 days because of the dam, so never has a chance to warm up)
It may be a bit warmer, depending on weather.
sam :-)

Uhhh, not too sure, isn't there a conversion between BC and Alberta? I think you count the beats of a moths wing in a minute, divide it by 10, add 5 then do a shot of Fireball so 12C in Alberta is like...........hmmmm, can't find a moth right now.....I'll get back to you.....

Hey how was the bike ride. Downhill with the wind at your back?

Unfortunately, I never got any takers. And my wife had plans so she couldn't drop me off out at Ghost. So I didn't ride it.Frown

Instead, I think I will be like many others that drop off their bikes on Saturday and then drive the course back into Calgary.

I went for a ride on Sunday East on 22X. I went out for about 55km. Downhill, wind at my back, 35km/hour all the way, hardly breaking a sweat. I am keeping my fingers crossed for next Sunday.

I did the same route on Saturday. I'm in Douglasdale so it's just a short ride to 22X.  Ended up doing about 97km as I turned around a bit too late and had a bit of a headwind on the way back.

I am in Riverbend, anyone interested in car-pooling to drop off the bikes? I can carry four bikes no problem.

I rode the course a month ago when I convinced the wife to drop me off out there. Good course, the climbs aren't bad. Hopefully there will be no wind, a west wind, or a north west wind.

Oh, there it is. 10 minutes between waves seems a bit much, but what do I know. Originally, and still, said 3-5 minutes between waves.

Oh, and there is my wave, the last wave, dang. I suppose at least people won't be crawling over me for 45 minutes.

Yep, with 10 minute stagger, it makes for a long time standing around waiting especially for you. My start time is 7:50. This list has changed a couple of time so maybe they will change it again.

Water was pretty warm today!!

The wave starts were advertised as 3-5 minutes apart then the timetable said 7, now its been revised to 10 ...

I am happy as I will be catching people from the other waves... the fewer the better... my bike will go some thing like this....

inside draft zone... 20 seconds to pass... repeat 2 x minute on average.... welcome to the Ironman McD's brand of non - drafting racing... its not officially drafting when you are passing through in those 20 seconds...Cool

Hi Dan, looks like I'll be in your start wave. This will be my first triathlon and I'm beginning to get very nervous (but in a good way).... I'm sure I'll be losing sleep on Friday and Saturday nights worrying about all of the logistics and if I'm really ready and all. But I'm really stoked for it and can hardly wait!!

I like my number... 888!

Yup I heard he (C. Alexander) was out of the race.

Also a FYI I just learned the race course changed.  Used to be an out and back from the boat dock but now it is the opposite direction under the bridge to the other side of the lake and back...check the website.

Yep, I noticed the swim course had changed. I thought it might be better the new way as it is now in the more protected part of the lake and hopefully wont be as choppy if there is a west wind.
