Expert 2547 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Fastest MPH On Bike? I hit 60 once with the chest on the bars on a downhill west of Austin (2222 heading east from lake travis for those who live there.) It took many times down that hill (long and straight) before I could put it all together (no braking, chest on the bars, etc.). Ironically, when I got it, some stoner drove up next to me in his beat up Datsun, rolled down the window and yelled, " Dude, your doin like 60 mph! That's awesome!" I sat up shorty after, partly laughing that someone decided to try and 'chat' with me in that tense moment. Certainly wouldn't try that on uncharted road or with company like they do in the tour. |

It actually wasn't that scary when I did it - I was hammering hard on a big downhill, but I had a huge shoulder and a quarter mile view up front at least, so it was actually a lot of fun. I even had enough time to look down at my computer, which I rarely get to do when I'm going over 35mph, due to the fear of missing a rock or something that would take me out. Lots of porsches, ferraris, etc. on this road that will often momentarily slow down to check your pace when you're bookin' it - that's fun as well. Edited by agarose2000 2009-07-25 9:30 PM |

I know plenty of people who hit 60+ on a regular basis on the same route. I would love to see what the pros did in the Tour de Georgia |

Extreme Veteran 417 Buford GA | Subject: RE: Fastest MPH On Bike? 43.6 this morning is the fastest on my road bike, I have only ridden it a total of maybe 10 times in the 5 years I have had it 4 of which in the last 2 weeks. So really still getting used to the skinny tires, narrow bars etc. Plus I have gone down on a motorcycle so i've done the high speed road rash thing, not fun. I've done faster on my mtb but don't recall what it was exactly. |
