It's stupid because he can't win FL and both CO and NV aren't looking any better.  He may still hold VA, but he'd have to win OH, FL, VA, and CO or NV.  Zero chance of that.

In hind site I wonder if the Repub's ended up poaching their election day voters to make the early voting numbers look better.  Thereby giving us (myself included) this false hope that our turnout was going to be way bigger than 2008.

Well, their numbers were certainly off.  It looks like they even might loose some seats in the senate, pretty hard to believe taking into consideration the economic climate.  It will give the party a lot to think about.

when the takers out number the givers the scales will tip. When the givers can give less the takers will demand more. When the givers have none to give the the takers will have nothing and we will all feel the pain.

Obama supporter here.  Rs underestimated the Obama ground game in a huge way.  Plus, they nominated someone who is just generally not very likeable.

Let's just hope the Rs and Ds can work together going forward.

Right because Obama is so likeable..........  this isn't supposed to be elementary school---it's issues not a likeable contest......

Romney messed up big-time in Ohio.  The double whammy of stating he was fine with Detroit going bankrupt, along with the ad stating Jeep was shipping jobs to China...bad moves.

Conservatives should be very happy.  This Obama victory will be like jet fuel for Limbaugh and Hannity.  Heck, they may even be the early front-runners for the GOP '16 ticket.

One more happy moment...Akin and Mourdock, bye bye.  Rape is rape.  No part of it is "a gift from God."

lol on the limbaugh/hannity.

Akin and Mourdock were both idiots and they paid a dear political price for it.  I also think it really helped Obama shape the entire Republican party with their whacked out statements.

I do agree that there is a silver lining, but it's not quite what you're thinking.  The D's pushed all the bad stuff in Obamacare until after the election.  Well, it's now after the election.

Also, if Obama doesn't turn the economy around the next 4 years the Dems will have a tough go in 2016.

...unless the GOP adopt the strategy they're discussing on Fox and shift even further to the right. I strongly maintain that as much as people want fiscal restraint and a focus on the economy, they aren't willing to sacrifice on the social issues. As long as the GOP keeps hammering their pro-life, anti-same-sex marriage agenda and making it central to their platform, they're going to have a hard time coaxing younger and more moderate voters to their side.

yeah, the rush/hannity thing is tongue firmly in cheek...their heads have to be spinning.

The positive unemployment #'s the past 2 months along with the signs of a housing recovery, both just part of the overall recovery...and a nice stock market were big helps.

btw, a huge opportunity for the R's this year...losing seats in the Senate.  Very bad night for the Republicans.  Unless he's got skeletons I'm not aware of, Rubio in '16...get those t-shirts ready my conservative friends.

^This.  As usual, much more articulately put than I could have done!  The challenge is putting a fresh spin on conservatism that resonates with a much more "tolerant on social issues" younger demographic.

I think it does tell us that he genuinely thought he was going to win in a big way.  I'm betting he's in shock at this point.

He does need to come out pretty soon because he's not helping anyone by dragging it out.

I know many conservative circles that embrace the "we need to go further to the right" approach.  I've also thought that the massive debt, spending and such would force people to open their eyes and take a more fiscal conservative approach, but I don't think that's a winning strategy.  Look at Europe, they're in worlds more financial trouble than we are and the masses want more entitlements, not less.

I guess. I assumed that his campaign saying that he hadn't written a concession speech was just posturing, but I guess not.

I feel badly for his supporters at his HQ.

He didn't come out a minute too soon or too late, and his speech was about as gracious as anyone could hope for.  His vision is better than Obama's....always has been.

They can go as far right as they want, and I will still have nothing to do with them. I'm sick of the social agenda. It has ruined politics. Either the GOP will shift farther to the right and stand firm on social issues and finally give the Libertarian party a boost... or they will pull their heads out of their rear and adopt the libertarian platform..... the only problem with that is the Big Business part has nothing to do with small government... hummmm.

Biggest winners were the hardcore MSNBC type liberals, unions (except coal), and China.

Biggest losers were evangelicals (because like Powerman said, unless Republicans abandon social issues, there will be no getting younger voters), and Coal/emitters.

If the D's had taken the house as well, you'd have at least some certainty for coal plants and mines. But with the current situation, you'll have the EPA continuing to regulate without clear direction and uncertainty which means you can't get air permits on new or upgraded plants.

Either way, I can't imagine Powerman is happy right now.

I've said it before. I was a Republican from Reagan through Bush's second term. I still believe in fiscal conservatism. I just cannot endorse their current social platform.

I don't see how same-sex marriage diminishes the value of a heterosexual marriage. If two adults love each other and are willing to care for and commit to each each other, more power to them.

Abortion does not have to be an all or none issue. First trimester, up to the mother. After that, medical necessity only. And provide birth control counseling so it becomes rare. And a path for adoption if that is the decision.

And so on...
