Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What's the first thing I said in my first post? Funny. Then, after talking about the funny, I responded to Drew, prefaced by the fact that I'm not a hunter, and qualified by the statement "unless the guy did something really stoopid." DerekL - 2006-02-13 2:12 PM C'mon, man. "But yeah, I'm no hunter but I say guy who pulls the triggeris probably at fault, unless the other guy did something really stoopid." Sounds like pointing out fault to me. That's what I too issue with. Oh, and I've never posted one political thing on this board. Assuming things again, are we? run4yrlif - 2006-02-13 1:09 PM You know...whatever. Anyway, my original point take on of this wasn't about who was at fault. I mean, unless Cheyney shot the guy in a premeditated way, this was a hunting accident. My take was that this was funny in an ironic way, the way any hunting accident is inherently funny: guys with guns stalking animals without guns. Guys with guns get shot. Animals without guns laugh and laugh. Karma. But you know, let's turn this around. For the sake of argument, if it were Clinton that did the shooting, at a guy who was behind him, would you be defending him so vehemently?

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I still don't understand why its stupid to think that whoever pulls the trigger is ultimately responsible, but thats why I was asking the question to people who do actually know about these things. Found this in one of the articles: "I find the story reassuring. Cheney is a man who doesn't just talk the talk. No, if he's going to send American soldiers into harm's way, where they might be shot at any moment by a deranged fanatic, he's also going to do the same thing to his close personal friends." |

My initial reaction to the story was that this sends a very clear message to terrorists. Cheney only used bird shot because this is his friend. But he'll take you elk hunting. |

Further, you can't assume that Cheney is not a cybernetic machine sent from the future to dominate the world and that this is not the "cleansing" of his cabal of those that are not privy to his diabolical plans.... Damn. That was my assumption from the word go. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I heard that the guy was ribbing Cheney that "Bush was the real president". |
![]() ![]() |
Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It was an accident. Cheney may or may not have done anything wrong. What eyewitness accounts there are aren't very clear and I doubt many are likely to paint Cheney in a bad light except possiby the guy that was shot. However, why wasn't the shooting reported until nearly 24 hours later? I think the fact that the VP shot someone is kind of a big deal. Maybe the Veep's press secretary should have released a statement? Why was it left to the owner of the ranch to basically leak it to a Corpus Christi reporter who then got confirmation from the White House. And finally, why did the Secret Service refuse to let the local sheriff's office interview Cheney about the incident? I'm not trying to imply there's some massive cover up about what really happened. I am questioning why covering things up, avoiding questions and avoiding accountability seem to be the only reactions this administration is capable of. Edited by dgunthert 2006-02-13 4:35 PM |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This ought to provide fodder for the anti-gun lobbyists and the Saturday Night Live crew. If a responsible and (supposedly) smart guy like Cheney can't handle a shogun intelligently, what about your average schmuck running around half armed to the hilt? Yup, makes me feel REAL safe!

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't hunt, but my dad did and I did go through hunter safety and gun safety classes. I also spent a week running a cub scout archery range. The person who pulls the trigger (or releases the arrow) is responsible for the projectile until it comes to rest. PERIOD. That person is responsible to positively identify the target and make sure that the area in that direction is clear of things that you don't want to shoot (like a hunting buddy, your hunting dog, your pickup truck, etc.) Was the other guy stupid? Probably, and his actions/behavior certainly contributed to the situation. Wonder what the secret service guys would have done had Cheney been the one on the wrong end of the shotgun? |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The cover up angle was the fact that this happened on Saturday and didn't make it to the news until 24 hours later, and only after a local Texas paper picked up on it. I think we ought to sic the Warren Commission on these guys. They'll get to the bottom of it...yep sure they will. There was a second shooter on the grassy knoll. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Only want to say that regardless of political affiliation the person behind the trigger is ultimately responsible for the bullet. Military, police, hunters: all know that if someone ends up wounded or dead that while the victims actions may involve issues of extenuation and therefore may mitigate the result, the shooter is responsible. That's why we have murder and manslaughter. Accidents will happen. No I'm no %$#@*&^ lawyer, just have sat in on many a deadly force justification hearing. |

![]() | ![]() Actually, if you take any hunting safety class or any type of shooting class, the main, and most important point that is passed on, is know what you are shooting at and what is behind what you are shooting at. Ultimately, the person behind the gun is responsible for what happens in front of the gun. The old lawyer was fine, the birdshot didn't hurt him that bad. What put him in the hospital was when Dick Cheney tried to pluck and clean the lawyer. Edited by Frank Amato 2006-02-14 1:55 AM |
